He’s a bottom six guy who can still be bought out, and isn’t overpaid really. He’s a disappointment offensively, but he isn’t an albatross. He’s doesn’t have a good spot because of JStaal. Kk would be the 3rd line C. He’s overpaid to be the fourth line C, but he’s not good enough to the second line guy.

I’d love to see him move on but I wouldn’t pay anyone to take him.

Pinto and Henrique are the first 2 names I though of (I'm a Sens and Oilers fan), and I'm sure the list is plenty long.

He's the 57th highest paid center in the league according to CapWages. That's 2nd liner territory for 3rd liner talent and production.

Henrique is also 35, that may have played a small part in his contract, don't you think?

As for Pinto... yes, his AAV is under 4.5m (by a whole 750k)... and his salary for 2025-26 you ask? Oh, that would be 5m

Buying him out with be better value than trying to add something to him to trade him. 851K a year for 8 years is very manageable.

Lars Eller had a lot more value than Kotkaniemi at the same age. There's a reason why Washington wanted to have Eller on their team and he proved them right when they won the Stanley Cup with him.

@Fig on the Flames board suggested Rory Kerins and Daniil Miromanov for Kotkaniemi. If the Canes are looking to shed his contract and aren't expecting a bigger return, it could work out for both sides

I'm not sure what they can get for him at 'say 1.42M retained' (+/- equivalent of buyout over 5 years) but for a 3C at 3.4M it's more than decent.
