I don’t see that type of value at 4.8 m but possibly with retentionAnd Van, who has stated they will be active and have been tied too JK before, will offer up 15OA to get him. Imo of course.
Could be retention or Canes add a second or third?I don’t see that type of value at 4.8 m but possibly with retention

Yeah - they are too cheap for this.
Yes - they don't seem like a buy out team but I'd do it. Just want someone so badly overpaid away from my team. Worse, he's not NHL caliber. It saves money. Replace him for 775k-1M. They still save a few million per.
That’s a LOOOONG time to tie up one of your retention spots for though. He’d have good value if carolina retained that.82 m on his contract rather than buying him out. Maybe the lars eller trade from Montreal is a good comparison? I think it was 2 seconds
Try calling Montreal or Vancouver. I think they both need a center.
He’s make a good Isle. Chokes when it matters most!Try calling Montreal or Vancouver. I think they both need a center.
Same cheap team/owner that spent 6.1m in both cap and real dollars in order to buyout Marleau in exchange for the first round pick that turned into Seth Jarvis?Yeah - they are too cheap for this.
I think many teams would spend a fair amount to get a first rounder.Same cheap team/owner that spent 6.1m in both cap and real dollars in order to buyout Marleau in exchange for the first round pick that turned into Seth Jarvis?
@Fig on the Flames board suggested Rory Kerins and Daniil Miromanov for Kotkaniemi. If the Canes are looking to shed his contract and aren't expecting a bigger return, it could work out for both sidesmost analysts that I've seen talk about him all seemed to agree that it's either retention with a return or the under 26 1/3 buyout, not a single one has mention paying to dump him. Like some have said on here already, it's 4.5M with the cap jumping up significantly within the next 3 years, so what ever they decide to do wont really affect the team
The only thing that seem to be sure, it clearly looks like he's done with Carolina
Point is, Carolina are smart with their money, not cheap. They’ll do what they can do get him moved cleanly no money remaining on the books, but a buyout at that amount if there aren’t any better options will be signed off on without much of a second thought.I think many teams would spend a fair amount to get a first rounder.
This is a good point, next summer he will still be eligible for the 33% buyout,If they retain 1-1.2, they can get a good asset back. They don't have to use a buyout option yet. He's putting up 30+ points still.
He's never PK'd in the NHL, so while you could say no, he's still just 24 and could easily add that skill to his resume... yes he's good in the dot, and outside of a dip in his second season, e has improved his FO% every season; he finished this past season at 51.8Can he pk and how is he on the dot?
I mean the team you like doesn't even have a 3C, but look at any 3C signed the past 2 years,,,, they all make 4.5m+
We're looking for a 2C not a soft, underwhelming and overpaid 3CTry calling Montreal or Vancouver. I think they both need a center.
