No, but Kule packaged with something else can fetch us a nice return. Although K-rav hits and finishes his checks, i'm frustrated by his ability to never finish off a play and put the puck in the net.

Kule is equally frustrating with respect to inability to finish. Leo doesn't belong on Kadri's line, though maybe part of their success is that he does open up space for Kads and MacA. With Frattin back, Leo is bumped. Might be a waste having him on the fourth line.

Agreed. As much as I like Kuli its almost like he is a completely different player from two years ago. He was faster, could possess the puck for long periods of time, went to the net and could score. He still does some of those things but he doesn't to any of them as effectively as he used to.

i really dont agree. Kulie is playin more then he ever has for the leafs esp on the pk. his offensive numbers arnt there but hes still solid d and carlyle is holding players accountable for that. playin in a shutdown role like him and grabo have will drop numbers. imo he stays, why not he has a decent contract and hes doing everything carylyle expects him to

Wow!!!!!!!! Someone who actually gets it! Congratulations on being more observant and intelligent than 90% of the leafs fan base!

Kulemin leads forwards (entire league) in Offensive Quality of Competition (Corsi), yet still manages to play at a 42 point pace (over 82 games). He affects games much more than most of you seem to percieve and because of his offensive numbers, he seems to be called 'useless'.

You need to understand how Carlyle's system works. His second line (in terms of minutes) is usually his shut-down line. These players are tasked with playing against the oppositions top forwards all night long, shadowing these players and cutting down their scoring chances. Of course alot of the time, this means being hemmed in your own zone (due to the high skill level of the opposition). You're doing your job very well if you limit their scoring chances and keep their shots to the outside. You are doing your job very exceptionally if you can keep that opposition hemmed in their own zone and are creating scoring chances of your own.

Either way, many people are simply misjudging Kulemin and the value he provides to the Leafs. There is a reason teams like the Blues and Pens have an interest in him. It's not a situation where he's truly a crappy player and many of you hope to get a decent return hoping the other team doesn't realize he's a crappy player. Teams employ scouts, these scouts have numerous jobs, one of which is to look around the league for players that could be involved in trades to better improve their team. Kulemin is sought after by these teams considered to be cup contenders because these are the type of players that help you win. Especially in the playoffs. Just like McClement.

I get it as well. And I believe that we are in the playoff hunt in part due to Kule and Grabo. But if we are to finally adress the #1C, we have to give up pieces. Could a line with Bozak, Leo K and a third checker be as effective? That waits to be seen.

Hats off to you sir, great post. I wish more Leaf fans see more depth than just Goals and Assists.
 
Great article, great read, the guy has lived an incredible life that's for sure. He's a heart and soul type that will never be known on the stat lines (except for hits, I suppose) but he's a guy that every team needs. Couldn't be happier that he's with us.

I agree and can't stand this "trade Kulemin" talk going on.

He may not be producing offensively, but he's not a liability and is a very hard worker out there. The latter part alone makes him a hockey player I want on my team in this league. Maybe he figures it out again and scores some goals for us, maybe he doesn't and we have a very good bottom six winger, what have we got to lose by keeping him?

Edit: Sorry for the Kulemin talk in this thread, I'll also add in I like Komarov and like another poster said, just wish he didn't have stone hands otherwise he could be an even more effective player.

Top notch post. I get really annoyed when people get on Kulemin. He's not a 30 goal scorer. He's better than the 7 goals he scored last year but his issues of last year and lack of goal scoring this year are being treated as the same problem when it isn't at all. Last year he dealt with grief and confidence issues. This year he's put in an entirely different role. There's good reason why Carlyle doesn't spend presser time talking about how Kulemin has work to do and how he needs to start finding the back of the net. He knows what he expects out of each of his line while ideally you would like all of your lines to pitch in offensively, the defensive assignments given to our checking line is more important than scoring tons of goals. Carlyle is pretty reasonable and fair when it comes to how he addresses the roles and performances of his players. If he isn't worried enough to call out Kulemin then I don't think we need to be worried either.

Great write up on him. He definitely seems like an interesting guy and you can tell that he's an even keel personality just by the way he conducts himself on the ice. The NHL was his dream and it's great to see him not only doing well at the responsibilities given to him but also getting along reall well with his teammates. Sounds like he's enjoying his NHL experience so far.
 
I love this guy, I really do. If I had the money I'd seriously consider getting a jersey with his name on it, but man he is an offensive black hole. The fact that he has 5 points despite all the chances he has been involved in is insane.
