Couldn't watch game or record it ....How did they play overall?

I thought it was one of our better games in a while overall. It seemed we were trending toward another first period lull after we scored the first goal but we ramped up the chances in the second half of the first and Thompson made a few big stops.

I didn't think the second period was necessarily bad but we got burned on the defensive lapses that we had. Overall we controlled play through the first half of the third period, Vegas started to clamp down and limit our chances late to a point where the tying goal was really surprising and blew the roof off the building. From there, we really controlled the OT and were able to finally draw the first PP of the night and take it home from there.

Not sure how the advanced numbers looked but I thought we played a really solid game last night.

I'd guess the Deserve to Win o meter was close to even or slightly in Vegas favor.

Also the Palat-Hischier-Bratt line looks awesome.
If Fitzy could PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD get Meier for Jack... this team will (as Shoresy says) never lose again.

There's only one puck to go around and they're 1st and 2nd in 5v5 shots. Keep them separate.

Apparently Bratt cannot play Defense.

@Devils Pride 26 said it so it must be true. :eek3:

Overall, they were way better than against the Pens.

The 2nd period the Knights kind of took over a bit but the Devils got the momentum back in the 3rd, and that of course led to the first of Dougie's huge goals.

I don’t know if anyone else has talked about it but that was probably the smartest 3-on-3 OT I’ve seen from the devils. Didn’t really force anything that wasn’t there and whenever they got in trouble they would just throw it back out of the zone to regroup even if someone wasn’t quite there.

Any time you’re in trouble you could essentially just shoot it back towards your own end and even let your goalie get it and keep possession. Wonder if teams start to realize this more. Always see way to many stupid turnovers in OT.

They did a good job of that on Sunday too. The Pens barely touched the puck during that overtime.

For people talking about our fanbase, it's hard sometimes to keep in mind that we're really in uncharted territory now: I was born in '85, so basically right around the time the team landed in Jersey, the team became consistently relevant when I was in grade school (there's a ton of us whose introduction to hockey was the '94 ECF), and the last time the team was consistently good I was in my mid-20s, a time when I was able to go to a lot of games but had to often be careful with my purchases as I was just getting my whole adult financial life figured out.

Fast forward to now, the team seems primed for another lengthy run of relevance, and suddenly all the people my age who were babies when the team got here (almost perfectly coinciding with the start of the Millenial age group...I know, generations are arbitrary, but most people pin that at 1981, team arrives in '82) are old enough that if we really wanted to splurge for ticket plans it's pretty doable, while a bunch of us are having kids that are getting to be old enough that they can go to games, too, which basically means we're beginning the third generation of Devils fans. Combine that with the way hockey has grown as a sport in Jersey since the Devils' arrival and we might actually be entering a phase where our expectations for the fanbase can also grow a bit. No, it won't be NYC just due to sheer numerical difference/amount of corporate seats getting bought up, it won't be Original Six numbers given how established those teams are, and if the team sucks people likely won't turn out a lot, all fine, but I think the days of good Devils teams not being able to consistently draw may finally be ending.

End of the day, this is a super crowded market for sports and entertainment options, the Devils are still one of the younger teams in the area, and hockey is already a bit of a niche sport around here despite its growth around the region, but we're also finally entering an era where that aforementioned third generation of fans will have a good team to follow, and that could end up making quite a difference.

...I just admit that I kind of miss the old barn having more seats than the Rock does. I get it, fewer seats usually means better quality angles to see the game and fewer empty seats during quiet Tuesday night games against Western teams or whatever, but the trend around sports towards smaller venues (e.g. the Mets going from 56,000+ seat multi-purpose Shea Stadium to approx. 43,000 capacity Citi Field) does contribute to jacked up prices and it being tougher to getting seats come playoff time. Still obviously prefer riding a train and seeing games in Newark to having to drive Rt. 3 traffic in and out of the swamp.

It really is just a treat watching Jack, Nico, Bratt, and Hamilton on an OT PP. I sure as hell wouldn't want to have to defend against it.
It’s basically impossible to defend. Jesper and Jack are 10/10 skaters and puck handlers, Nico is a monster on the boards and with body positioning, and Dougie had a howitzer and length to defend odd man rushes.

Vanecek 11th in the league in GSAx, with quite a bit of a lead on 12th and not too far behind 10th.

A lot of the names ahead of him are guys that you would expect, like Vasilevskiy, Shesterkin, Saros, Hellebuyck, Sorokin. And then there's Oettinger and Ullmark, who may be in the Vezina lead right now.

But there are a couple of other surprising ones in there like Sam Montembeault, Samsonov and Stuart Skinner, who Vitek is closing in on.

I'm not really counting draft picks as acquisitions, but particularly free agents and trades.
you acquire draft picks and than get players and vice versa. we still have siegenthaler (indirectly), mercer and bahl from the hall trade.

What does Bahl have to do with anything? He sucks. Steve Santini 2.0 and that's it for him.

Once again, the statement was that he's the most IMPORTANT acquisition we've made in years, not necessarily the BEST acquisition we've made or the best player we've acquired.

I hate that aspect of OT. I get why it works, but man I really hate the leaving the zone with possession and regrouping crap.

Funny thing is that Bratt was right there and Jack could've dropped it off to him but decided to keep the puck.

As it turned out, it was the correct move (hindsight and all that).
It was the correct play, Stephenson was covering Bratt pretty good there, could’ve caused a turnover.

Bratt was at his spot though and attracted Stephenson which sort of opened the lane and left Dougie wide open. Overall just a good play by everyone! :D

Dougie could have also slid the puck over to a wide open Nico for a tap-in
