NBA Knicks fire Tom Thibodeaux

Thibs is the guy that made the Knicks have actual expectations. Fully expecting them to slide bigtime without him.

And to be clear, he's not a great coach, but he's way better than anything that franchise has had in a long time. Not going to be easy to coach up from him given their track record.

The charitable explanation is that Rose thinks Thibs is Doug Collins with the Jordan Bulls, a guy who gets you to a certain place but you need to throw him down an elevator shaft to get to the last step. I'm not sure they really have the team to get the last step regardless of coaching hire or the next guy using the bench more though.

The cynical explanation is here comes Dolan back into Knick fans' nightmares.

I’ve never heard of Johnnie Bryant once before in my life

But I’m not some huge basketball fan, but you hear the names on espn who are the “next in line” and he hasn’t been brought up

He is the overwhelming favorite for the betting odds????

I mean with Malone, Jenkins, I thought they could be higher.

Edits: it looks like he is an assistant for Cleveland and really young

Smart. By firing him now, they aren't contractually obligated to hire Doc Rivers, as he hasn't been fired yet.

Agreed. Ever since his one title, Doc usually has better teams, and they always lose in the playoffs.

I realize we're a hockey site & NBA knowledge is in short supply. I've seen "Knicks fans" say Thibs doesn't play the starters too much and that you can win a title with him. All 5 starters averaged 35+ minutes per game last season.

It would make more sense if they were in the same position as OKC, Orlando or Houston - young team who's core guys are all in their mid 20s or younger. But they aren't.

Not that his age is really related to it but I don't think a lot of people realize how sneaky old TT is. He's 67.... Gotta say he does look pretty young for his age. The trend league wide is to go younger. Carlisle aint much younger than him but Dagnalt on the other side could be either guys kid.

When you're the coach you take the blame for losses. They should have beat Indiana, but NYK were outplayed most of the series and just couldn't adjust to or find solutions to the problems they had all series. No easy buckets and too many lapses defensively.
