So his cap hit is high because its pro-rated correct? Even though his annual cap hit is 1.738M, it would only be 1M against our cap today?

From puckpedia:

Note that its a signing bonus, so im assuming that comes across this years cap and given to him right away. That way if it doesn't work out he has a little money.

View attachment 962781

Basically a signing bonus is payable in full where base salary is averaged out to a daily cost and paid out daily. Since cap is tracked daily and we are in Day 101 of 192, the $350K only gets spread out over 91 days instead of 192 and thus the daily amount of $3846.15 over 192 is equivalent to 738K annually. However, since there are only 91 days left the annual cap hit of $1.7M really just equates to $823K in actual cap hit.

If we were to stay below the cap that's the real amount of cap space he'd burn. Unfortunately when in LTIR though, it's a bit more convoluted and the impact is more significant (ie. the full amount, thus the old Hollandism "dollar in dollar out").

Maybe not a massive problem, but the Oil love to run their offence going low to high followed by a point shot.

IF healthy, Klingberg gives you someone that can walk the line and control the play from the offensive blueline better than anyone on the current roster (yes, that includes Bouchard).
Two of the best breakout passers in the league (or at least Klingberg was as recent as 2 years ago) as well which really fuels their transition counter attack game off the rush. Really comes down to how his skating looks after the surgery and if they can have him fit into the system. If OEL can go from being a tire fire defensively for many years to fitting into Florida's system, then I don't think its difficult to envision Klingberg doing the same, and historically Klingberg has been a much more dangerous offensive player.

Don't think he's good by any means but as long as it's under 1 million it's a fully buriable contract and he can't be a worse call-up option than Josh Brown. More importantly it doesn't cost us any assets for when we hopefully pick up an actual top 4 RHD later this season.

The -28 on the Ducks is understandable, its the seasons prior in Dallas that worry me. I'll even look past the -7 in his short stint in Toronto as he was probably at the end of the rope in terms of how his hip was doing. I don't even remember the Stars being that bad overall defensively those years, a lot of core players are in the minus side. And yes +/- is a skewed stat at times, so I tend to use it to compare in relation to a players team mates. He doesn't stick out like a sore thumb near the end of his time in Dallas, but won the green jacket for the teams worst +/- his last three seasons in Dallas.

Hopefully whether its Nurse or Kulak they can help his pairing keep their heads above water.
Keep in mind there’s lots of noise in +\-.

He had -16 from empty net goals in that Dallas season.

Should be interesting to see how this guy has recovered from his surgery. Obviously not getting the dynamic offensive defenseman from half a decade ago, but another good puck carrier and breakout passer to take some of the pressure off Bouchard would help if he can become effective in the defensive zone again.

Most clubs would wanna Oiler and currently have an energy problem.

I want some laughs on this one ya cheap bastids. ;)
Yes, most of them are freezing in the dark.

As it's already been discussed in the thread, it isn't fully buriable, though the costs aren't huge if they shipped him down.

Good point. Also 7 from empty nets in Anaheim and 3 in Toronto.

Klingberg would be the Nucks 2nd best defenseman lol
Don't tell that to that goof nucks poster in 'Oleksiak' from the mains Klingberg thread. He even thinks still that our defense is bad compared to the nucks LMAOOOOOO. Apparently our only good dman is Ekholm. So f***ing delusional of these mainboards mouthbreathers.
Apparently the canucks were never a serious contender as Klingberg got to pick where he wanted to go and they aren't even a playoff team right now.
Can't blame Klingberg. Who would want to join that mess with an overrated coach, a one player team in Hughes, a soft overpaid pouter in Pettersson, and a toxic teammate in Miller. They can't even get ahead of a rebuilding flames team in the standings, comical.

They have Derek Forbort - Tyler Myers and Soucy - Desharnais as their 2nd and 3rd pairing. Absolutely garbage.

Did a bit of a deep dive on them today and found that they have 5 regulation wins in their last 24 games. That's like Anaheim with Dallas Eakins bad. Only kept afloat right now by OT/SO points (3 wins 7 losses in OT over that stretch).

Sigh.. some of u clearly don’t know this league works. This is a low risk depth signing only

Yes I do. Like Arvidisson...if he gets injured he takes up a contract spot. I understand it is a low risk but with him it is matter of when not if he gets injured. Contract wise we are 46/50.

Since you want to be snarky--can you figure out why I am looking at the 50 man contract list? A few years ago the oilers tried to do a trade but they were at the 50 contract limit and they other team was not willing to take a contract back.

You clearly are aware if the 50 contract rule as it is one of the more complex natures of the league and how taking on so many injury prone players can affect things you can do.

BTW

Can you find me that stats for some guy names Alec Regula? I see his name being an oiler but I can not find his stats

There is a lot of shit storm behind the scenes with the team this--I thought it was just the Miller/Pettersson problem but you have Debruck and his stalking that MOVED from Boston to Vancouver to keep tabs on him and according the canuck board there sounds to be some more mayhem that has not come to light yet.

Edit

First shoe has dropped about Denko not being happy
Next up is Brovk Boeser. UFA in the off season and indication right now is that he wont resign in Vancouver

We got a good cushion on them. I can see that crappy team playing us hard and winning. They do that winning thing once in a while lol. Losing to them is of no concern to me anymore, but I would love to bury them even further. Their fanbase deserves it.

Give me boo birds, throwing things ont he ice, etc.

"As long he can be buried I'm okay with it"

add it to the long list of dumb decision this team makes

I don't get what he did to deserve a bonus. Does he want to prove he isn't still trash or not? He should be making all the sacrifice. We're giving him a golden opportunity to prove he deserves a deal next year.

Dreger was reporting that 5-7 teams were interested in him so he definitely had at least a little leverage.

Interesting.

Personally I would have just walked then, but I guess I'll wait and see if he can still play. Really hope he can be a bit responsible in our end, against his reputation.

I'd really have my eye on using every bit of cap space at the deadline for the real upgrades at this point of the season.

This is like us giving Skinner an NMC for no f***ing reason. For having been an agent Jeff is such a shit negotiator lol.
