this player is undisciplined and slow witted. he is the kind of player you can have the entire san jose roster and say no get THIS guy out of here, he is that much of a failed player
Classic case of a guy who had a good situation in a limited role with a specific team with a specific need for that specific type of player chasing money and not living up to the role.

There might not be a player who’s value to a singular fanbase so outstrips his career value than Kostin is to the Oilers. Literally every other fanbase that has “owned” this guy - Blues, Wings, Sharks - can’t wait to get him as far from the line-up as possible but for a couple of magical months in his now 8 year professional North American career he wasn’t a completely infuriating drag.

Oilers fans were disproportionality irate when he wasn’t brought back when the reality is he was always going to turn back into a pumpkin and they are better off without him. There is no need to go back to that well if you are Edmonton.
It was more that the Oilers had a very specific need for a player like Kostin, he came in and fit perfectly in that extremely limited and specific role. It was a lightning in a bottle type situation. It wont be recreated if the player return as the situation and room has changed since. He made a career “mistake” chasing dollars as it probably ends his hockey career in NA. had he stayed in Edmonton for less money he probably still has a role and a place on the team. However, you can’t argue with 2 million dollars and when his career is over, however soon that is, its not a bad thing to have banked 2 million.
