Sorry, Edmonton isn't going to just give Chicago a top 4 defenseman for a bunch of bottom pairing pieces

I definitely had the wrong idea about Klefbom's value. I saw him as a second pair on the Oilers, and see that he's not on Sweden's team.

I thought he was a garden variety #4. Taking out retention, what's his actual value?

I don't think its an insult to be left off a defensive squad consisting of:

OEL
Hedman
Karlsson
Hjalmarsson
Stralman
Lindholm
Ekholm

Klefbom was playing like a solid #2 last year before he fractured a knuckle that was supposed to keep him out 2-3 weeks but developed into a staph infection that kept becoming an issue when trying to put on a skate due to it rubbing on the skin. He has since fully recovered and should have a breakout season this year, which he was on his way to having last year.

I'm fine with people calling him a 3/4 at this point because I understand most haven't watched him play and he hasn't proven it over an entire season or multiple seasons as a #2, but there is no doubt in my mind that he will be a bonafide #2 in the next season or 2.

Edit: I just read through the thread and he admitted his mistake, no use to keep piling on the guy. Close it up.

Klefbom is overrated, but this is terrible for Oilers.

Klefborn is not a legit #2. Chicago has a very solid top 4, and in all likelihood at least 1 or 2 of the guys offered will become top 4 dmen. Chicago passes.

Thanks, I already discussed the error, and how I arrived at it, several times in this thread.

Glad to see you are owning your mistake . Really even if you think Klefbom was a top 4 as suggest by you the Oilers biggest need is D and that is why they overpaid for Larsson . If we had the D to spare no way Hall got moved unless we got a big return . As some has said he was playing like a top pairing D last year before injury and the Oilers fell fast with out him . It had more of a negative effect on the team then McDavid injury . It was a small sample size of Klefbom playing at that level . He does have all the tools to become a great D it is why the Oilers signed him longterm . Maybe he takes a step back even if he did a 2nd pairing D is still worth more then 2 million a year which is what you want . Would Chicago take a bunch of lessor pieces for Niklas Hjalmarsson and retain 50% ? Even during cap crunch time , not likely .

I know it is hard to know about every other team players but you might want to read some thread on the team sight about the player in question .
