Kitchener Rangers 2024-25 Season Thread, Part IV

Disagree about Parsons. Without Parsons Rangers would never have gotten 100 points. So far in this series the team in front of Parsons stayed on the bus for both games. Getting beat in all 3 zones. Losing assighments , and getting knocked around physically. Spits out skated the Rangers for the most part. Just a domination.
Pay no mind to the instigator. This series is not a reflection of Parson’s play. BoogieB is just trying to stir the pot.

Some quotes from the Neutral Zone livestream on the Rangers selections. The US scout is very high on Anderson and Hriczov.

Barch- brings a lot of grit and sandpaper to the table. Smooth with the puck but a bit peripheral. Doesn’t have the hockey IQ of some of the players higher then him, but he’ll get in there a be a pest. Always under the skin of opposing players. Works hard around the boards. 200 player with a honest game, does all the little details. Can really shoot the puck and can play up and down the lineup. Top 15 talent and smart gamble by Kitchener

Forrest- “mini version of Cam Reid ( “don’t know if he’s going to be as good as him but a lot of similarities”)Offensive, hits everything that moves. His Offensive game is impressive and currently quarterbacking St Catherine’s power play in jr where he doesn’t look out of place”

Kut- big physical tough to play against, very good net front. Made his skilled team tough to play against. Logged a ton of minutes in the ohl cup. Brings a ton of different elements to his team. When he finds his role at the next level he will be a very good player.

Nicholson- typical power forward that can also facilitate and shoot the puck reliable with the puck off the rush, good puck possession through traffic. Heavy shot that is ohl ready already. Underrated offensively on a very good team. Mostly used as a depth player. Scored some big goals and has sandpaper and layer of physicality to his game.

Taylor- backup goalie that they feel has the ability to play at the OHL level. Good positioning and movement. His vision is next level. Value pick that they’re surprised dropped this low. One scout believes he is as good as Reznik (1st Ontario goalie taken the draft and teammate). Believe he has more upside and is growing. Still in the learning phase with confidence as he wasn’t the #1. Once he starts believing in himself he’s going to be up there at top of the class

Anderson- surprised he slipped. Exceptional player. They think he’s One of the top 10 forwards in the country definitely top 20. Dynamic quick, smart. Plays a poised puck possession game. Had a lot of OHL team ask about him in the last 2-3 weeks. Teams were sniffing on him and thought he would go earlier than he did. Good value in the 8th round. Kitchener has a good history of recruiting American players. Don’t be surprised if he makes the team as a 16 year old

Massimi- can really skate. Has to learn some areas of the game. Really athletic and defends speed really well, good gap, solid on the puck and doesn’t turn it over. Excellent at OHL cup. Would of thought he would have been 4-6 round guy

Fox 6ft Centre that was hurt most of the years but put up good points in u15. Don’t have any notes on him but “Kitchener does there homework and wouldn’t shock me if there’s something there”

Harper- underrated might be a size thing. Was full value at the silver stick and one of the best players on the team. Speed needs to get a bit better on the interior. Will be one to watch as he grows and matures

Synnott. Big body on the backend who clears the net and competes. Makes good plays with the puck as a big man. Going to have to work on his pace and mobility. Late birthday has a extra year to grow

Hriczov- one of the top goalies in the US had a fantastic season. Reads the ice really well. Good skater that can come out and play the puck. Quick reflexes. His IQ is probably the highest of the goalies this year in the US. Starter potential. Nice late round pick by Kitchener. Going to have a lot of options going forward

Hisey- coaches son. Dad played in the AHL. Small but a really good skater. When his physical catches up to his mind. He could be a solid player. Competes every shift.

Crawford- surprised he dropped this low. More value than second last pick. Top 2 forward on the team that controlled played. Smart, fast, and has a great shot. Intense kid that’s a hard worker

Just find it interesting that Ranger fans thought it was a given that they would play the Knights in the Western final and never considered the Spitfires in round 2. Windsor is an excellent team and should not have been ignored. Hope your team goes home and wins game 3 and 4.

I don't think it was a "given". London is just an arch nemesis and most were predicting "how to get there". No doubt, Windsor is a quality team. IMO, I feel the Greentree line is better than the Cowan line.

We’re getting the team in these playoffs that we thought we were getting going into the season. I had us missing the playoffs and most on these message boards had us finishing not much higher than eighth.

The first round, even though we took it in five games, we were not the least bit dominant and now here we are in the second round and it looks like it could be a laugher. Can’t blame injuries. Spits have their share as well. And if we are as deep as we say we are, injuries shouldn’t matter that much.

Speaking of depth. We rave about our 07 draft group. But outside of Reid and Romano, I’m looking around and I don’t see any other 07 that’s making any impact of consequence in this series. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing going forward. Especially looking toward the 26-27 season. Just sayin’.

You kind of proved my point. Tonight's game is too. We're over matched physically

I like Xu a lot. He looks good out there. He’s green and will be a stud going forward. But there are instances where his inexperience is showing.

In MacNiel and Bilecki, we are healthy scratching a combined 89 regular season and post season games. Maybe it’s time to sub in one of these guys (I’m leaning towards MacNiel) tomorrow night?

I highly doubt Ranger fans thought it was a given they would play the Knights. Ranger fans just didn't just fall off the turnip truck on their way into town. You may find it interesting but it's only in your mind and no one else's. Kind of a silly notion IMO.

This is news to me. I don't recall many/any fans assuming we were making it to the WCF against London. Maybe you saw some comments that you interpreted that way incorrectly.

Complaining about our 07 who, other than Reid and Romano aren't getting a lot of ice time, aren't being impact players in their 2nd year in a round 2 playoff series against a very strong team and how that doesn't bode well for the future is a huge stretch imo and just seems like a reaction to 2 very disappointing games.

Our top offensive producer and our best all around center has been out. Windsor's top line is excellent. Our big players aren't making much of a difference. Last series was far more physical from both teams. I don't think we're not physical enough, we really just aren't generating any kind of offense and we haven't found an answer to shutting down any of their big guns.

Parsons is a great goalie, but I've believed all along that if we are to go far, Parsons has to play like the best goalie in the OHL like he has much of the season. It's not his fault we're doing poorly, but it was because of him that we did so much better than we could have anticipated this season.

Others may be pessimistic, but the way they played in round 1, especially some of the younger guys, made me feel that the window might be open next year and the year following, instead of just the following 26-27 season. A lot has to go right, but with the right development trends and additions I see them at least being very competitive next year.

On this, I think you’re very right.

I am, and have been, of the opinion that this group, especially if Valentini reports, and how the 09 group shakes out, will no doubt be at or right there at the top of the conference for the next three years.

We look like the Rangers team that lost 12-2 to Windsor on the opening weekend.

The Rangers need to get back to the game that brought them success all season. The Rangers game is defensive team hockey with Parsons in net, don't overreact to heavier and bigger Windsor players, it throws Ranger players off their game. They should stick to frustrating opposing players with discipline. The Rangers will have the best chance of winning their games in the third period with a close game and a frustrated Windsor team. If you all remember, the Rangers have been the OHL comeback team all season.

The window is open in 26 and 27 seasons. London should be taking a small step back next season. But the team we're playing right now gets almost their whole team back next year too.

For now let's worry about game 3 and hope Elinias can help turn things around.

I think some home cooking and a rocking crowd like we saw in round 1 will help. I know that the games this time are on weeknights but I think a large and loud crowd will go a long way to help the boys get back to their game.

Mondays are a tough draw. Struggling to sell tickets.
