At the start of last year, he was ranked late first round early second round of the NHL draft. As the season went on, he slipped in the rankings. He wasn’t getting the minutes at Michigan. He’ll get them here!

The CHL / NCAA agreement.

The gift that keeps on giving!

He will be a very solid addition.

Check out what Willis just went for. 2 2nds, 3 3rds, 4th, 5th and 7th. The Humphrey add saves us a bunch of picks. His 2006 fits perfect with mem cup year for an OA as he will have a good chance to be back. Him, Ellinas and Campbell are leading candidates for OAs that year. The funny thing is what did those players cost?

Ellinas 4th
Campbell 5th and 8th
Humphreys 11th

Now the other aspect of this signing, it will allow MM to trade some forwards to lessen the glut at forward.
May not get really high picks but with this new CHL/NCAA agreement a 8th round pick is the new 4th round pick.

Edit to add...hopefully this will quiet the Pinelli trade unless we can use some of these excessive forwards to use in the trade. ( might be a wee bit of a stretch unless a Lam is involved)

Rangers aren't in the position to build a contender this season. Why give up a 1st round pick for a round or two. That's not building for the future. Not sure what MMs agenda is this season. If he goes for it again what will fans think if he dips into the draf

No way I trade Headrick.
I could see trading a few players with the extra players.
We could use some size for the playoffs.

I hope the Gibson trade makes MM realize how pathetically understocked our pick cupboard is. All of our young guys aren’t going to blossom into top 6 forwards and stud Dmen, so we are going to have to make a deal (or 2) like that in our go for it season, and we won’t be able to win those trades because we are light on assets.
You don't think he'll have a first rounder and two high picks, along with a bunch of later picks, to offer in 2027?

He will. And who knows what prices will be in that year. Last year I believe there were nine bona fide buyers and prices were high. This year? The prices seem higher.

We may or may not see our younger excess players moved. Everybody around the league is seeing what’s happening in Kitchener. That’s four signings because of the CHL/NCAA agreement. They know that we’re gonna try to move some players. And they’re gonna try to get them for cheap because they feel we’re in a tough spot.

If I’m MM, I try to move a couple guys. But if I’m not getting MY price, I’ll shuffle a couple more guys down to Junior B and go with the 25 or 26 man roster through the end of the season.

According to the OHL website, Schaubel has nine games played in the league. Also, games played during the world junior championship break don’t count towards his 10. I think he made two appearances. That will put him to seven games played towards his 10.

So there’s still time for somebody to scoop up that A card.

Just sayin’

For what it’s worth. McKenzie said today on this topic- We’re always looking for ways to improve,” he added. “The best way to put it is that we’d like to do it without sacrificing the future or significantly hurting our draft pick cupboard.”
Believe that scoops account put the pinelli thing out there- same account who’s tweeted out a fire sale was coming

This guy has spilled trades before they happened before. What if Pinelli has called his shot and says only KIT? Ottawa is delaying as long as possible to get the bid up from KIT saying X team is offering X. I don’t think Brant is giving up O’Donnell. I don’t think Kit is giving up Headrick. Neither team will give up their very good 2007 so it comes down to secondary 2007 players and picks. Be interesting what the Pinelli trade looks like when it’s done.
