Kitchener Rangers 2024-25 Season Thread, Part III

February 15th I believe.
So we have until February 15th to sort out the A cards.

Headrick and Bilecki have A cards. Schaubel hasn’t reached the 10 game plateau yet. I’m thinking MM will wait until the last possible moment to designate his remaining A cards.

I’m thinking he has an open invitation to Valentini and maybe Hextall to report and automatically be given one A cards. I can see Xu getting an A card should both not come. I suppose Schaubel gets the 4th A card.

I am not sure on how that works for Schaubel. He has played in 10 games and wasnt a World Jr call up. So I dont know if that counts or not. But I do believe he is on an A card with only 1 left in play. This reason and D being a logjam is part of the reason I think Xu is not on an A card yet. If MacNiel gets moved an no other 08 signs then I would hope Xu comes on an A card.

Schaubel I believe using an A card this weekend if he starts a game. Will be interesting to see if MM gives hime a start.

I think we may see the CHL lose a number of 19yr olds who decide they would rather commit to a NCAA D1 program than risk getting traded in their overage year.
Or, you might see good OA’s dictate where they want to play or ask to be traded in the off season before their OA year to team(s) of their choice.

Otherwise, they’ll go to the NCAA a year early if the team they’ve committed to has a roster spot for them.

According to the OHL website. He has 9 games played. I believe two of those games came during the period of time players were off at world junior camps, or at the tourney. I believe games played during that period of time don’t count towards the 10.

Don’t believe that’s how it works. I could be wrong. The games don’t count only if you have a player at the world juniors in that position. So like an Arquette call up last year to play for Mesar those games don’t count. We did not lose a goalie to WJ so his games count towards the 10 games. Could be wrong but don’t think I am.

This is accurate. He needs to be a replacement player for the games not to count.

McCue could be the first but likely won't be the last. ( I bet Hunters figure out a way to snag him).

Wolves page someone is saying Pinelli has requested Kit. Can’t see Kit over spending on Pinelli. Should be an interesting morning.

Could be significantly more than Pinelli joining him. Not Mews but potentially Foster. MAybe someone different. But it is not looking like jsut Pinelli.

That is the case wherever he goes. So, this isn’t me saying he is going to Kitchener with another player. Only that the word is he won’t be alone wherever he goes.

If that is the case and Kit gets 2 players then I think OTT is going to be very disappointed with the return from KIT. I can’t see MM going hard after players this year. He has said he will keep the future in mind lots of times. Pinelli and Foster doesn’t make KIT the favs over London…they are still the heavy underdogs.

Maybe but I am just saying what I have heard with respect to someone joining Pinelli. Whatever happens, happens. I said at the begining of the season that I felt Pinelli was more likely a picks deal at the deadline. Some things have changed since but if Ottawa gets a decent player and a good selection of picks, I think that’s fine. Even it it is jsut picks, that is fine too. Same with Foster. He is likely worth two 2nds and a 3rd (give or take). If it is all picks, Meh. No matter. No worse than we expected to start the season.

I highly doubt Kitchener is parting with any picks, their draft cupboard isn’t well stocked as is. If they were ever going to make a deal for Pinelli, I would think it would likely start with Evan Headrick. Kitchener has an over abundance of players atm and can afford to let their 1st round pick go, especially if MM knows Valentini is going to report at some point which would essentially replace (and upgrade) Headrick at zero cost

I think that is the first choice for Ottawa. No doubt. I am responding to those that say they would only give spare parts….then it needs to be loaded with picks. Either/or.

I could also see a deal involving Lam bit why would the Rangers give away a player that is contributing at a solid level over a younger player currently on the 4th line? Headrick has a higher ceiling, yes, but if it is all about trying to win now, keep the higher performing player over the 16 year old IMO. But, some people get attached heavily to the young guys.

Also, there is this loser mentality with some Rangers fans. I understand the hesitation about London but you have to try to make a run now and then. You cannot try to time your competitive windows during London’s ONLY 80 point seasons….

Can’t see them giving up Headrick. If Pinelli is making his choice then MM doesn’t need to give up Headrick. Would Headrick even waive his NTC? He has been interviewed a couple times and seems to love Kit. Jussi loves the Headrick. MM speaks about the future.

Yes, but it can’t be nothing. I believe there is a fallback offer from a team Pinelli is willing to go to. So, any deal is going to have to get at least close to that deal. That team has a lot of picks. So, this is not a discount situation. I could see Boyd accept a little less if it made Pinelli happy but not half.

I don’t think it’s a loser mentality. It’s a “we have a very strong group of 2007/ 2008 and realize the best chance to win is with that group of players”. Our OAs are strong no doubt. Our 19 year olds are not that good or deep. Ando and Pridham are the only big 2. The 18 year olds are Ellinas and Campbell and some weaker players. Too late I’m the night to count but I think we are around 14 signed 2007 and 2008 players….that’s a big number. And a lot of those players are starting out to look very promising.

Could be wrong but I don’t see a huge offer for Pinelli from MM. if Pinelli wants to come here MM and Kit will welcome him with open arms but it won’t be at the same value as Smith, Gibson, Mccue, etc.

Would some type of package involving Arquette, Ellis, Stark, Bilecki, MacNeil, Xu or Weston Cameron be enough to get a deal done you think? It’s not like Kitchener has a shortage of young talent. Be intersting to see. Less than 12 hours away

Also wonder what’s up with the import slot. Eduard Sale has yet to report back to CV Firebirds. Could Kitchener look to get Nordh from SSM on the cheap at a buzzer beater tomorrow?

Can’t include Xu, Bilecki or Cameron in a trade as per rules. Big yes I could see MacNeil and Arquette being involved. Stark value currently be too low to trade. He looked really good to start the season big wasn’t putting up points. They will forsure come for him in the years to come. Ellis I don’t think would want to be traded. He might of came with a promise to play here.

Sale has yet to report to CV? Did not know that….

Nordh you could get but I don’t think on the cheap. Too many teams can still use and import and he is the best one out there.

These are all spare part ‘07s and ineligible to be traded ‘08s. It is not Kitchener or bust for Pinelli.

Also, with Sale, you have to keep him protected so you’d have to go post-deadline rostering only one Import. You only have Chromiak so that’s fine. But, if you roll the dice on Sale, it means you have to sacrifice acquiring a 2nd Import.

It wouldn’t be enough to get both Pinelli and Foster, but if the Rangers packaged up Lam, Arquette, and McNeil, along with 2nd’26, 2nd’27, 3rd’28, 4th’26, 4th’27, it could be enough to get Pinelli. Maybe add on lesser pick(s) if need be to close the deal?

The Rangers would get a very good player and still preserve their ‘25 draft picks.

Headrick may have already surpassed Lam on the depth chart. Maybe not today, but by next September. Humphreys may have already bumped Lam out of the top six but another vet acquisition, be it Pinelli or an import, surely will which makes it easier to move on from him this year.

Maybe MM feels he could do that trade, and move out spare parts here and there over the next couple years to make sure he has at least one 2nd and one 3rd to go into the ‘26 and ‘27 drafts?
