Xu's signing does make me wonder what the defence would look like.

Right now (with Chromiak) it has pretty much been:

Ando-Chromiak
Reid-Campbell
Dirracolo-Bilecki

I'm not sure who I would be taken out cause I have liked how Bilecki has looked on the back end.
How I’d deal with the D for the rest of this year and going into next year:

MacNiel and Schneider look to be odd men out right now. But their trade value this year is low. I think we have to get them into the lineup more. Let’s get a good read on them while raising their value so in the off season, we can make decisions on them. As a 4th rounder, MacNiel will have more value today. Maybe if we can get value for him, hope Schneider can develop into a good bottom pairing D down the road, we’ll have a good age mix on the backend going forward.

Going into next year:
Dirracolo. Campbell.
Reid. One of MacNiel or Schneider.
Bilecki. Xu.
09.

Try to get Bray here and we’re in even better shape.

09’s

We have three picks in the first 45 or so give or take. Four picks in the first 65 or so. Use one of the first two on a D and that D gets penciled in.

One of the analysts mentioned that as you rise in levels of the game, your opportunity to be one dimensional diminishes. So, if you are a goal scorer, you need to be able to contribute with another aspect of your game…strong on the forecheck, playing the body, killing penalties, in those games where the goals might not be coming.
As great a scorer as Rekhopf is, I am not sure what he has to offer beyond that, which is why he isn’t dressing. It’s also something he will need to work on to become a regular in the N.
Hope he does get the chance to play, and makes the most of it to stay in the lineup.

Rehkopf has never had the compete level needed on a consistent basis. Given the roster and quality of players at their disposal aside from a trigger man on the PP I don't see how much he adds over some of the others.
A cynic might ask, “Then what’s he doing on the team to begin with?”.

Umm, What’s he doing on the team to begin with?

Well, he scored a hatty against the Usports team. That got him on the roster. After that, he hasn’t registered a point in three exhibition games. Somebody has to sit.

Someone has to be the odd man out. Nice luxury to have a 50 goal scorer as an 18yo waiting in the wings... as others have said if goal scoring becomes a concern.

Then why pick him at all??? If it wasn't for Letang and his idiot choices last time around, Rehkopf would have "contributed" a heck of a lot more than the others he was playing. And spoiler alert, look at who assisted on Martone's goals this season. It doesn't take a particularly intelligent person to place them on the same line together. And to be clear, none of us know why he was a healthy scratch. Again, why pick him for the team at all?....

If the goal scoring dries up I'm sure Rehkopf will get into the lineup.
Goal scoring was dry enough last night. If it wasn't for Burz in the 3rd, Finland was still in the game.

As for our current Rangers, it's great to see MM using the B much like the Hunters to get their young players more playing time rather than sitting up in the box. Nice to see Cameron and Schneider close to "home" where they could participate in Rangers practices. Anyone know if that's happening?

In these short tournaments you would think the prototype would be 200 foot players. They also have players on the roster on loan from the AHL. Rake is a skilled forward. Maybe on the bubble as far as his 200 foot game goes. A lot of highly skilled forwards flounder in this tournament over the years. Sometimes we as Canadians don't give the othe countries enough credit. Most seem to play more of a Canadian style now where they don't shy away from being physical. Many play in the CHL.

Well that’s why a guy like Barlow didn’t even get invited

A team is the sum of it's parts. They probably picked Rake in case they had a situation where they needed a pure goal scorer. On the flip side, you can ask why they didn't pick up Michael Misa? It's all a balancing act and a job that I wouldn't want.
I suppose they could have used some goal scoring tonight.
Either one of these guys would have helped.
