Value of: Kirby Dach

I've only ever seen this report from incredibly sketchy sources with no direct connection to the team.


I don't feel Dach is untradable or untouchable, I dont think he should be. I think right now his value is way to low to trade him.

I also don't think that this season should be the measure of who he is as a player, he's missed so much time. Other team's can't gamble on him being much more but the Habs have to.

If a team offers a player like Jared McCann for Dach or even Dach plus a bit more, yeah the Habs should do that. But... they won't.
 
For me theres a lack of vision on the habs management.

Slaf is a better LW than a RW, Demidov is in next year as shoulf be Beck and Roy. This team should give spot the youngs people where they at ease and not on spot the team needs. Thats the main problem with Dach. He's not a center.

For future contention, next year spots should that:

Caufield - Suzuki - XXXX
Slaf - XXXX - Demidov
Heinemann - Evans - Anderson
Roy - Beck - Gallagher

Laine, Newhook and Dach are outsiders

Dach should play with Caufield an Suzuki since the end of the season and if he cant, seeya!

I would try to get something like Newhook vs Pageau at the deadline.

Really looking like the genius moves Hughes has made aren't turning out all that good. What a waste acquiring Dach and Newhook. Now they are relying on the draft pedigree that Gorton and Bobrov is dicey at best. The hype train on Demidov is off the rails for the guys who also selected the "bluest of the blue chips" Lias Anderson, Kravtsov, Kakko, and Lafreniere. Yikes!

Then you add in the less than spectacular development model the Habs have used on their top picks like Galchenyuk, Kokaniemi and Slaf.

It's not a good history around the franchise or it's supposed genius members.

Accumulating lots of picks and prospects is the easy part of rebuilding. It’s how to are able to develop them and leverage them into team needs that matters. Hughes gets an A+ for the first part. Jury is still out on the other part but so far the Dach and Newhook deals don’t inspire confidence that he will be able to develop properly and target the right players for acquisition.

He’s playing timid - afraid to get injured. He needs more time to regain confidence that his injury woes are behind him. There is no point in trading him. Habs will see this though for good or for bad.

...Chucky & KK were the last Management, not the current one...and Slaf is fine; kid's not even 21 and will probably still have back-to-back 50 point seasons, even with this one being less than stellar in his developement...Demidov is seetting records in the K right now as a 19 year old rookie...that's the thing with kids; it takes time to see what they are and who they'll be...2nd youngest team in the NHL and a highly-ranked deep prospect pool...Rome wasn't built in a day... :thumbu:

A perfectly reasonable response.

All I'm saying is there are a lot of chickens being counted before they have hatched based on a group of people who haven't exactly lived up to the hype of previous similar situations. Even Demidov, no argument here he's got some great results in the KHL. At the same time I was also told to watch out for Tolvanen because of his amazing D+1 season in the KHL. Not all things transfer. The NHL is a different beast. Some of the fan excitement for this kid is near impossible to live up to.

He's one of those guys who is probably hurt by the CHL/NHL agreement. He was too good and too big for juniors, but he wasn't good enough for the NHL, and was prohibited from the AHL.

He was the king of never using his size. For a big guy he seemed to always get absolutely demolished at least once a game and never learned how to protect himself

Just don't see him moving unless he's asked for it or something.
His value has cratered. So unless Montreal just wants to move him for some insignificant pieces and picks, makes no real reason to move him along.

Probably best to just keep him in, work with him on his training this summer, and hope he comes back better in 2025/26.

Yup Rome wasnt built in day but whats really separated Hughes from the likes of Grier or other rebuilding GMs? The only good core players are from the last Habs management team... (Suzuki, caufield, geule), while Dache/Newhook arent much younger than KK and have accomplished less than both Chucks and KK.

If Dache and Newhook has a 30 goal season like Chuck, thatd be a success compared to current expectations/accomplishment to date.

Hutson is a gem though, almost forgot about him. Thats definitely more value added move than the former habs management.

i dont see any long term value with newhook, a smaller player who doesnt produce and isnt any good defensively. Dach is much bigger obviously but he's also much better when he gets going. I see way more potential with him than with newhook. Plus, he can play C better and we only have Suzuki other than him as an option on the top 6.

Hopefully, we can draft a C this summer or maybe Hage can surprise and beat Dach as the 2nd line C. Though to truly compete I think we need a true 1C to play with Demidov

Always injured, is somewhere around a 3.5 mil cap hit, pedestrian production at the NHL level while playing on the 2nd line, and he's something like a minus 30 on the season.

He's closer to being the next Cody glass trade than he is to getting a 2nd rounder from some team.

Imo Dach has a higher ceiling than Glass but injuries (and maybe low hockey iq?) get in his way. He’s going to be one of those who will go backwards on his next contract.

Demidov's development would have to go off the rails for him to end up on a line with Dach.
