Value of: Kirby Dach

No doubt he's available, not played up to all the hype he got being the future Habs 1C. Looking like a 3rd liner or middle six player at best now and habs no doubt hoping another GM overpays for him.

He cost the habs Romanov and 66th OA pick. Romanov is playing great with NYI.

Such an underwhelming player. Career high is still 14 goals and 38 points in 58 games. Already has completely missed basically 2 seasons in his 6-year career to date. Doesn’t really do a ton of the little things other depth centers do like win draws or kill penalties.

I guess the cautionary parable if you are afraid of moving off his potential too early is Dylan Strome, but at the same age (24), Strome had put up the best season between the two and was more of a true center. Still, there are some similarities.

Hard to gauge his value. Is he a 2C? A 3C? A top six RW? A pure project?

His value is probably too low to trade him. But unlike newhook he still has some future with this team, I'd give him a full year after his injury return season to better assess him. If he still underwhelming then its time to more seriously dump him or convert him to a full time 3c, a position I don't think he would excel at all given his style.

I guess we'll see

Tbh I don't think Dach has ever been particularly good. He put up 38 points in 58 games in 2022-2023, but he was playing 18:30 a night and nearly half of his production (16 points) was on the PP. His 5v5 points/60 was 1.35 in 2022-2023 and is only at 1.11 this year.

I don't think he's a viable center due to how atrocious he is at faceoffs plus his bad 5v5 defensive metrics. Combine that with the bad 5v5 production and I don't really see what the dude offers.

King's love projects! Sounds perfect. Not too expensive and makes it look like Blake is doing something!

There's a mix of Chicago tragically botching his development, and him having to deal with injuries and COVID during his developing years.

He's one of those guys who is probably hurt by the CHL/NHL agreement. He was too good and too big for juniors, but he wasn't good enough for the NHL, and was prohibited from the AHL.

Sure he’s probably not worth a 2nd but you’d need to motivate MTL to sell “low”

Yeah, but you also don't gotta buy high.

This isn't really a Trevor Zegras situation where he's proven he can do more. Dach had a three quarter season where he produced at a 55 point rate, and other than that, his career was been a wet fart.

Dach is more Filip Zadina than Trevor Zegras.

Not sure how he was too good for junior given the okay draft year production he had in both the regular season and playoffs. Chicago pushed him into the lineup too soon.

I'm curious if the Hab draft and prospect vloggers who were pumping Dach's tires have walked back their comments about him being better than Seguin and Hintz.

Philly is desperate for a C, they might bite.
History of minor deals between the 2 clubs.

But return would be underwhelming to Habs fans.

Maybe Primeau to Philly as well.

Throwing names out there: Deslauriers, Zamula, Jacob Gaucher, Jakob Pelletier.

Another can't-miss-player whose stock has fallen from what I can tell.

Reacting badly to criticism by your coaches and GM isn't a recipe for success. That kind of thing rarely works out for any player.

Regardless if the Habs decide to move him now I can't see the return being anything more than "underwhelming".

Yup.

He's a decent PP2 option if you're a good team.

Beyond that, the only time he hasn't gotten caved in was as the 3rd fiddle as a winger on a line with Suzuki and Caufield.
