Player Discussion Kirby Dach: Welcome to Montreal part 2

It was evident at season start that his conditioning wasn't as good as at the start of season 2, but the report were that he trained like a beast in the off-season. Sometimes it's not how much, but what you trained that make the difference.

Dach mentioned mid-season that he didn't train the right thing too.

I think Savard shared his workout routine with him because he looked just as fat.

Dach, Savy and Monty should have all been assigned shadows to keep their nutrition/fitness in check. Even Suzy regularly comes into training camp with moobs, but my theory is that's where he draws his ironman powers from.
Yeah I don’t understand how we had so many guys out of shape. That should not be happening.

Everyone should just train with Hutson.

I find the guys who stayed in Brossard improved significantly this year, namely Struble and Anderson. I'd like to see guys like Slaf, Newhook, Demidov and Dach stay. It would show they're serious about their commitment to improve and be ready.

The game always came easy to Slaf but he's ambitious, we can bet on him not falling into the same trap again.

Dach... well between a series of devastating injuries dating back to Jrs and his personal nature, a leopard can't change his stripes. On a personal level I sympathize (sometimes you just can't make yourself give more) but he's a professional athlete and it's a results-based sport. It isn't incumbant on his GM or the fans to lower standards to accommodate him... he'll get out of it if he gets out of it. The ball is in his court.

The upside: if the Habs acquire top6 help and all of Laine, Dach, and Slaf come in good shape we will have tremendous depth for at least the next year.

Oh it’s an uphill battle with Dach.

I feel like if the injuries can at least not be season ending like Moneyhands, I think he can still be a net positive. Odds aren’t great for sure. When he’s on, he’s a big addition to our roster.

I really can't stand Arpon Basu because he doesn't report anything but he repeats that he understood the same thing most of us did in terms of Kirby Dach being sent a direct message. Starting at around the 8min mark.

Earlier in the thread, someone posted a highlight packet from that time period, Dude has legit top line upside when he's playing with confidence and swagger.

He needs to take his offseason seriously. If he doesn't stay in Brossard I'm not holding out much hope.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not holding out much hope at all. I think he's an "if only" for the Habs at this point. If he figures it out, it won't be in Montreal. He's probably going to end up having a Dylan Strome-like resurgence with some team like Utah or Seattle where the pressure will be far less. And we'll wonder why he couldn't figure it out here...

You can't build on players like Dach or Laine. They don't have the will to win. Much of the time they don't care if they are there or not. The playoffs are a physical two month marathon. They will not make it with their attitude

Yeah you can’t come in the season amd slot Dach in your top 6 but he could bounce back. Let him win a spot
We may not have a choice. There may be no 2C available via trade and the UFA's will likely get signed elsewhere and are likely outside of the team's age/timeline.

It might be another season of Dach / Newhook.

Really glad we re-signed Evans though.

On the plus side, Dach can't be any worse or more injured that he was last year could he?
