Player Discussion Kirby Dach: Welcome to Montreal part 2

The Blackhawks went scorched earth and traded players who were due for new contracts and could bring back 1st round picks. They didn't give up on Dach. Did they give up on Debrincat too?

Is this what the organization said they were doing?

I can see trading Debrincat if you are rebuilding and not wanting to pay him 8 million a year and getting a 7th overall pick and high 2nd. Smaller one dimensional player.

Dach though is questionable. 6’4” 220 lbs 3rd overall pick Traded after 3 years still not making big dollars.

I suspect they saw something they didn’t like.

He honestly looks like he's given up on himself. He signed a decent contract and he's not hungry enough to work for one bigger. It's sad.

I agree with the first part.

Not sure about the 2nd. I think he cares, but frustration has taken over right now. He needs to stay focused. Right now , it seems like he gives up as soon as things don't go his way.

This is his 6th year in the league, if he hasn't figured some things out yet, it seems like wishful thinking to believe he will become an important player for the team. Will be glad to be proven wrong, but the trend appears to be headed in one direction.

I said this a couple of weeks ago about Newhook, on a decent team at best he will be a 3rd liner. I can accept it, but Dach I just don't know where we fit him going forward. I mean the Hawks gave up on him, should have seen this coming

Ava gave up on Newhook as well.

I don't recall them giving any specific information on what they were doing. They just tossed out everything that wasn't bolted down. Ultimately they gave up on their previous core to get a new one.

That was the only thing that worried me, so i just (wanted) to believe that they were cheap and didnt want the "risk" injury wise..
But nope.. they knew.. it was never the injury, it was his IQ.. clearly he is never going to be an NHL C.. so i'd move him to 3rd line wing, and start teaching him how to become a shutdown player. Like take his mind off offense and stats..

I don't know their reason but it's really not out of characters for the Blackhawks, they have an history of jettisoning players early... Panarin, Strome, Danault, Schmaltz, Saad, Teuvo and so on.

Galchenyuk was trending very nicely at one point too. My own take is that it's very hard for forwards to take significant steps forward when they reach 25 or so (more common to see dmen and especially goaltenders breakout later). Folks want to see some positive signs now, the past is quickly forgotten. The Habs 2021 playoff run seemed like a distant memory the following season (Edit: albeit a nice one!)

Dach just a few nights before called himself out and said he needs to be better. So what did we see next game, the exact same thing.

One would think he would come out and leave everything on the ice. That’s concerning and it tells you everything we need to know about this guy. He doesn’t have the desire. The one game you would think he give it all but nope.

Seen enough, send him along and bring in someone else.

I think he just doesn't have the processing speed of a C.. might come one day, but he needs to reinvent himself as a winger - less responsibility, just use his body on the boards and feed whomever is at C.

It wasn't just Debrincat & Dach. They also allowed Strome to walk. They didn't even give him a QO. They wanted Bedard & felt the team they had was too strong to finish last & not strong enough to make the playoffs, so they tore it all down to ensure a last place finish. They also got rid of both Kane & Toews, as they wanted the new team to build their own culture.

They turned over almost the entire forward group in one summer/season. I expect us to be close to doing the same this summer.

I give an example with Marián Hossa. In one season he deliberately put on weight, but then it turned out that the increased muscle mass was too much for him and he had to lose weight before the next season. And, I repeat, it was not fat, but muscle mass. Comparing the players' weights, Dach put on weight. he has to get used to it.

The second thing, his psyche. He's afraid of hitting. So there's no need to have high expectations this season. Unless of course he makes stupid mistakes, like passing behind him in the DZ.

We are seeing why they let him go. To say he's been underwhelming this year isn't enough. Outside of being tall, he hasn't shown anything. Hopefully he figures it out but so far he's not what we all expected.

I feel so bad for this guy. Rotten injuries and he’s looked terrible this season. So much riding on him too. This is a make or break year and he’s shitting the bed. And him being bad has spilled over everywhere too.

Availability is a quality, right?

If he’s been unlucky with injuries that’s one thing, but the inability to get to speed even as the season progresses is another factor. Not having a second line (Laine Dach Newhook) has tanked our season.

The longer he’s in this hole the worse it is for everyone. Tragic turn of events. Players like Bergeron, Kucherov, and Stone come back from catastrophic injures ready to kick ass. Weber and Price played through immense pain and injury. Dach seems totally out of sorts.

Forget getting digs in at Hughes for the trade, it’s just sad to see this.

His decision making is on pause. When I was at the game last saturday vs Vegas I saw him static, more than any other Habs. By contrast, Gally was skating, in movement and trying something. Dach doesn't move his feet. He reminds me Dvorak since he got here, except recently Dvorak is moving hit feet and he tries to cover his man, with his limited speed. Dach looks like an orange cone right now so he's definitivly representative of Montreal City. ... but he's not breaking anything, lol.

Called himself out pretty hard post game, let's see if he can self motivate.

Habs need to be proactive with Dach and Slaf with a sports psychologist right now because both of them need to be able to manufacture their own confidence rather than waiting for a positive result in a game to give them it.

The real problem is Marty.The whole team has basically quit.How many players are not playing to their potential?I would say most of them.Before Dach got injured he was probably one of if not our best player. Take a look back at the film of the year before the injury.Tired of saying it but the real problem isn't the players

I hate how marty has him high on the PP , this guy should play down low , zero puck management skills or urgency and only tries to pass , he's sitting next to Hutson on the point , 2 guys with muffins , I'm starting to think MSL is actually an idiot , not just a bad coach but actually not very smart of a person
