Picked up his game the few shifts with Suzuki and later Caufield, was moving his feet and engaged, almost like a spoiled baby given back his pacifier.
I think a few people has too much recency bias over Dach. He's been playing much better the last few games and looked dangerous in the 1st period last night before losing Laine.

Newhook on the other hands, still play like he has zero IQ.

Dach played a good game yesterday. I was happy to see him use his body & get engaged physically & go to the net. Im excited to see how the second half of the season looks.
I hope you are right in that he tears is up in the second half. Of course, he has to stay healthy for that to happen.

Still can’t believe those 3 chances he had two feet in front of the goalie with Suzuki feeding him. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear the guy seems cursed.

Newhook has made quite a few nice plays but they aren’t going in. He’s becoming this generation’s Chris Higgins.

When players are in slumps like this and you start to see an uptick in play, it’s not unusual that you’ll see them have some close chances they don’t convert o. Then they suddenly score in bunches. I really hope that happens for Dach,

Dach and Newhook are 2 big black holes in our roster. I hope Hughes does some magic like he did with Barron.
Two huge mistakes by Hughes by trading valuable assets for these players. They are setting our rebuild behind and need to be moved on from.

no one in their right mind thinks playing Dach more icetime is more beneficial at this point in time.
hey be nice to our HF friends ;)

He did go from a “black hole” minus player to a “void” last night with a +- 0

Also my hemorrhoids are getting better maybe I can play for the hab 2nd line while they fully heal.

There's so much hatred for Dach on this forum.

A lot of good players go through extended periods where they struggle mightily, for all sorts of reasons. It's legitimate to let them play through it.
It reminds me of Slaf's thread last season people weren't giving him any credit when he was clearly improving.
The signs are there.

Sunk cost fallacy is seriously at play here.

At some point we have to consider if the time we are wasting on him would be better spent developing someone else. Luckily for Kirby there is zero internal competition, and zero expectations for the team's success.

Yep, he's stands in the way of Evans and dvorak for development, which means he's not preventing the development of anyone.

But next year is his contract year, so that adds a time element to this situation too.

I doubt anyone hates the kid himself (that would be weird), but being pissed at the org for icing him in such a role is real, and poking fun at hf posters who confuse progress for being a valuable player is funny.

Completely disagree it’s legitimate to use pro team games people pay to watch as rehab.

This idea habs can’t play other forwards up the line up for fear of dragging whoever else gets stuck with Dach is total bs.

He is playing more simple and not trying to force passes through, which is a good sign, but still no sign of the guy we once knew

The simplicity to me is a sign that he can't play his game anymore and whether that is physical, mental, or both, I'm not quite sure.

He's dumping pucks in rather than challenging the dmen and using his size and reach to make a play like he used to. Until I see that aspect of his game back, I just can't see him as "cured" from whatever is holding him back.

Gally, Matheson, Dvo, and a billion other former habs say hi. Wonder why the same sentiment didn’t apply to these guys.

You could take both guys out of the lineup and not miss a beat. Both are dawgs who bring nothing to the table.

Hugo got smoked on these trades.

They need to move on from Newhook. Coloraoa has historically killed the habs in trades. Chalk up another and its time to move on just like they did with Barron. It's safe to say they should do the same with Dach but the outlier with him is he needs 1 year with his knee to get comfortable.

I'm not ready to give up on Dach just yet for the simple reason that he had the kind of surgery that takes up to two years to come back from.
Yes, he's injury prone and may never even get back to where he was in the sample size of two seasons ago, but he's shown flashes of brilliance and the size / skill combo is a rare commodity in the NHL.
Maybe he ends up being a winger, maybe Hughes moves him if it doesn't work out.

The Newhook move is not looking that good. He strikes me as the kind of player who's brain never catches up to his skating. A lot was given up for him too. He's also undersized on a team that desperately needs more size up front.
I get that Hughes is trying to unearth gems and the fact he's accumulated a lot of picks, allows him to do this.
He's going to have to find another elite forward next summer - in the draft or trade, but it's a must.
I'd move on from Newhook sooner. Maybe he's a3rd liner - but I'd like to see much more size in bottom 6, thus he's expendable, imo

Hughes needs to turn off his ringer when MacFarland calls. Seriously
