Player Discussion Kirby Dach (Part 3): TabarDach Edition!

This has got to be killing him (not being a part of it directly but being around the team as they soak in all the energy)...

If ever there was a recipe for some serious offseason/recovery motivation.

'25-'26 will be huge for both his career trajectory and his long term fit with us. By xmas if he isn't trending clearly to the top 6 contributor he was brought in to be, or effectively embracing a bottom 6 crash & bang with defensive responsibility role a la Josh Anderson, then I bet he goes the way of Barron...

My impression is that Hughes has given up on Dach as a centre. I think they’ll give him a shot as 2nd line wing with Demi and whatever centre they pick up. If he can stay healthy and produce, I think that could work out well.

What gives you that impression?

A lot of people have said that Hughes will make a big splash in the offseason. I think Hughes himself has hinted at it. Everything I’ve read from insiders has said the Habs will be going after a second line centre. They won’t be able to move Dach, which means he shifts to the wing.

If the Habs acquire a 2nd line centre and Dach doesn't go the other way, or out in a separate trade I'd be interested to see him play wing.

His best play was wing with Caufield and Suzuki, so if he can get a good centre, like Horvat and another winger, like Demidov he might hit, but just not in the way we were looking at.

His size and added, under the radar toughness would be nice to keep and nice to have in the top 6/9.

Sadly I have completely moved on from Dach. He may salvage his career as a winger but I am not holding my breath in anticipation

My understanding is that GMs get players and coaches decide how to use them. If Dach is no longer used as a C, it is because Marty doesn’t see the benefits of playing Dach in that position.

It is mind boggling to me that Dach hasn’t used all his time off to watch tape on faseoffs. It is like he doesn’t understand or care that this one attribute could cement his position at C.

After last night, you know they are not trading Dach anytime soon. need size and physicality to the top 6 and he can still deliver that.

For a couple of games then he's injured.
If he re-injures the same bad injury a third time, he’ll like be forced to retire.

Looks like he’s staying in better shape so far this time around. Hope he is more disciplined with that this off season.
I know he was laid up for a year but he didn’t do himself any favours either. Stay on that bicycle Kirby 😂

Even after missing most of last year, in Dach's limited time with Caufield and Suzuki this year he still looked good and shouldn't be written off as part of the team's future. With the lack of centre depth on this team, instead of being able to build more offensive confidence on the wing he was thrust back in as a centre where he struggled a lot this year.

I actually think putting him on the Suzuki line makes more sense than Slaf. Having a shoot first winger in Caufield on his line, I find Slafkovsky focuses on passing too much instead of using his shot. Slaf could help open up space with Demidov on the second line, while having a passer like Demi will allow Slaf to hopefully use his shot more.

The zero defense line! lol. I like all 3 of these guys, but they’d get absolutely torched in their own zone if they all played together
An healthy Dach (2 years ago) was pretty good in his own zone and was one of the best in transition.

This year he was a step behind so that wasn’t helping in that case. And had to play with Laine and Newhook which we know doesn’t work.

I mean, Dach is passing too much too that was always his ‘’down’’ side. And Slaf is doing very well with Suzuki and Caufield.

But I’m not against seeing Slaf with Demidov, at all lol. That would be fun.

If Dach has a rebound season, then he could still be part of the core moving forward.
If Laine doesn't get re-signed, then that opens up a spot on the wing.

Long term:
Caufield - Suzuki - Demidov
Dach - X or Hage - Slafkovsky

X being a center we acquire

How many times are we going to hope for Dach to have a rebound season? It didn't happen yet and I don't think it's ever going to happen at this point.

Realistically Dach is worth a 3rd round pick. Maybe not even that,

Yeah it was rough a bit this year..

But I still miss him lol..

He was *there* when we went that crazy run during and after the holidays.. and contributing too

It's easy to forget but Dach got hurt the FIRST game back from the 4 nations break , talk about bad luck
There's a universe where he gets a bit luckier and we're talking about "man that 2 week break did WONDERS for Kirby!"
And maybe helped out even more on the playoff push, I mean we'll obviously never know lol

But I still got a good feeling about him. I don't care lol
Lot of his struggles, pointlessness and minuses came early in the year where he was clearly rusty and not ready

It is *beyond* curious where they stick him in the line up next year...

He's fragile. We don't need that kind of player on the roster. He's a nice guy but
