Player Discussion Kirby Dach (Part 3): TabarDach Edition!

Unfortunately Dach hasn't shown enough this season to be trusted as the #2C moving forward. He'd be better slotted as a #3C or RW. He'll get better matchups and if he gets hurt, won't drastically impact the team.
He hasn't proven enough to be trusted as a 3C because he basically sucks in the dot and has questionable defensive awareness and implication as a C. The hopes he can become a decent 3rd line RW are just on a wing and a prayer at this point, trying to salvage something from the Dach experiment.

Seeing Dach as a better than nothing part of the 3rd line is not exactly what I'm aiming for in this rebuild.

Projected second line for Montreal:
Hage-Newhook-Demidov
For starter, projected by whom and for WHEN?

Hage is not playing in Montreal next year, and especially not on his off side while Demidov also plays on his off side and Newhook plays out of position (he is not a C, IMO, not great on the F/Os and as bad as Dach defensively).

He was drafted high because he was a big C. That's all it really comes down to.
I remember posting the sentiment earlier in this thread that Dach has to put it together on two fronts or that this trade would become an abject failure. It did look for a time like he might retain some value and possibly become a productive winger but he has failed miserably on the second front which was always going to be availability. For me he's basically become noise now. We have to build our roster with Kirby Dach sitting firmly in our peripheral. If our goal next season is the playoffs I don't think we can be patient with him any longer.
This stock has crashed.

Been super busy and haven't had much opportunity to read up on Habs news. Is Dach's injury to the same knee he had surgery on at the beginning of last season?

I wonder who's going to have the better career, Dach or Kotkaniemi?
Dach without a doubt is/was the better player.

But it looks like his career is going to be over pretty soon. Maybe he comes back (I never thought Markov would) but it doesn't look good.

As someone who followed that draft, this is complete BS.

Just a reminder Dach wasn't a legend in the WHL either, just another in a long line of W busts. Even his last year in Saskatoon, 73 pts... not exactly epic. He was the Kotkaniemi of that year's draft.

His last year ? He made the NHL at 18. His last year was his draft year. He was the best player on a top team, at 17.

How do you assess the discussion of Dach in his draft year?

All I remember is Dach and Cozens being discussed as a pair.

I'm confused with what you are disagreeing with in my statement?
The best player in this HOF lineup? ok

He's going to have a shortened off-season even, since a knee surgery is usually 5+ months.

Considering how his moral was this year after his last injury, he is most likely done.

Not specified exactly, but his right knee required surgery again.
I heard that but are they being vague on purpose? MCL ACL PCL?

Yeah, the best player on a team that finished 4th in the league that year. At 17, on a team with a number of 19-20 year olds. Add that he was 6'4", very good skater, great hands, playmaking and its easy to see why he was a top 5-10 pick all day long. Sennecke was drafted 3rd with 68 in 63 just last year for similar reasons. Hell, Dach was showing why he was picked high here until his knee was destroyed. He's done now, but there's no need for any revisionism.

How is his skating? I am genuinely asking because I don't follow the Preds at all.
Pettersson
We have been bad(for the most part) for 30 years because we failed to draft, develop or trade for talented top 6 centers, and that isn't just a fate exclusive to the Habs, plenty of teams struggle to contend because of the same thing.

Nick Suzuki has done all he can and I wouldn't put him in the category of elite centers in the league but he is a very good one. My hope was for a Boston situation with our versions of Bergeron and Krejci carrying the mail but it has not happened yet.

The time for experiments is over, we need someone with a solid reputation and maybe the center version of Carrier is out there to be had via trade. Cheers.
What about some elite talent? Pettersson. He could fit in well and be happy here.

Slafkovsky - Pettersson - Demidov
Caufield --------- Suzuki ------- Laine

Suzuki goes the other way in a trade for Pettersson, there's no benefit to that trade.
Well there's no way we can do that, I was thinking something closer to:

2025 1st
2025 1st Calgary
Hage or (2026 1st & 2025 2nd)
+?

Vancouver just traded Miller to make Petersson feel cozy and warm. Why would they gut the best center talent they have for picks and a prospect? They want to ice a competitive team and would want quality for quality.

Unless he says he wants out and the trading options are few. We have the cap to fit him, but we cannot give up our top 6 roster players. They can have Kirby in the deal if they want lol!

I can't tell if your serious or not but it just wouldn't work. We need to look for a good center as a compliment to Suzuki and the only way we find a better one is if Hage turns out to be that or some free agent wants to be here.
