If he does improve at all, it might be a chance to move him for a return.
The Habs never sell high.
Except for Romanov.

Well on the topic of Romanov... we traded Weise and Fleischmann to Chicago back in 2016 at Weise's actual peak! And we had squeezed a last decent season out of Fleischmann before trading him to Chicago where his career ended 19 games later. And the return was Philip Danault and the 2nd round pick that became Romanov! (You win some!)The Habs never sell high.
Except for Romanov.
It could be, his future is in his own hands. He's gonna get the opportunity to prove himself again, either with us or another team. My hope level is low at this point, but I enjoy being pleasantly surprised, so fingers crossed. If he does improve at all, it might be a chance to move him for a return.
Even if he rebounds, how long till another injury hits and more importantly, how much more will that injury impact his game. Unfortunately he's too much of a risk to pencil him into a top 6 role now.Well a second knee injury is basically the curtain call. He may rebound to be a player but he's definitely not going to be the 2C. Back to the drawing board.
As I said, not married to keeping him but I see no urgency to get rid of him. He might be pretty good if you put him with guys like Beck or Heineman .I think he can be a place holder until his contract runs out, but I don't see Newhook s part of a future Cup-winning team in Montreal.
I don’t think so. If his wrist were the problem then I’d say you were right it was a bad gamble. But they investigated and ensured it wasn’t an issue. They turned out to be right.Trading Romanov for a 13th was the right move, flipping that pick for a guy who just horribly injured his wrist, and struggled to produce, while playing with Kane and Debricat, was a bad move.
The way they’ve been injured is so strange.According to some posters in this thread, if a young player is traded it means they're bad.
Chicago also gave up on Terevainen a few years before that.
The Habs' rosters have been severely injured every year that I've been paying attention except for 2008 and 2013.
And even then, Streit and Eller being injured hurt come playoff time.
It's actually more damning of Dach if Beck is already a better center than him.
The way they’ve been injured is so strange.
Dach screws his knee in a weird hit.
Guhle somehow slices his own leg
Heineman gets hit by a car
RB gets hurt… skating
I mean wtf?
He hasn't shown that he can be reliable anywhere in the lineup tbh. Time to move on.Unfortunately Dach hasn't shown enough this season to be trusted as the #2C moving forward. He'd be better slotted as a #3C or RW. He'll get better matchups and if he gets hurt, won't drastically impact the team.
ROR - 2years left on his deal. Would serve as a good mentor for Beck, defensive protection to help break in Demigod next season, and potentially Hage for 26-27 seasonWe have been bad(for the most part) for 30 years because we failed to draft, develop or trade for talented top 6 centers, and that isn't just a fate exclusive to the Habs, plenty of teams struggle to contend because of the same thing.
Nick Suzuki has done all he can and I wouldn't put him in the category of elite centers in the league but he is a very good one. My hope was for a Boston situation with our versions of Bergeron and Krejci carrying the mail but it has not happened yet.
The time for experiments is over, we need someone with a solid reputation and maybe the center version of Carrier is out there to be had via trade. Cheers.
How is his skating? I am genuinely asking because I don't follow the Preds at all.ROR - 2years left on his deal. Would serve as a good mentor for Beck, defensive protection to help break in Demigod and potentially Hage in 2yrs
I don't understand how a C can be so bad at faceoffs and still do nothing to improve it, and still expect to play C
IIRC Crosby was pretty bad at faceoffs his first year, then dedicated one offseason to it and became among the best in the league
He has always been an avg skater, yet he gets almost no penalties despite being involved in the play, the model 200-ft C, elite faceoffs and leader…. 69pts last year. All for $4.5M AAVHow is his skating? I am genuinely asking because I don't follow the Preds at all.
I don't know, it's according to health of his knee this season. Dach was terribly disappointingWould make sense if he didn't have that short stretch of games where he decided to play. No I just think his problem is discipline and maturity. Some folks just don't have what it takes to work in high pressured environments. I'm one of them. I know, when I'm facing what it looks like odds I can't beat, I'll just f*** off and laze. Kirby seems to be roughly doing similar. Maybe a contender would be interested to know if he'd behave the same on their team, but then again with all the injuries... He should plan for a second career imho.
