Yes, I wasn't saying Dach and Markov are the same. I was saying it's possible Dach comes back from his knee injury.

Yes, we should get a different 2c. But no need to buy Dach out or give up on him. His cap hit is only 3.5M. You can get a new 2c and still have Dach as a project.
Maybe, but I think he's going to be more like Drouin, inconsistent and often injured, and just always leaving you thinking, it's too bad, there was so much promise..

I really believe Dach can someday be a really useful player if he can finally stay healthy, but it's time to move on from him as our future top 6 C.

Hughes' priority is landing a 1b or even better.

Re-injury was always a concern, and here we are.

2C was already in serious doubt for him. This seals it.

Hopefully he comes back next year and grabs a middle six winger spot. At this point, it will be a win if he earns an extension. Everything will have to be earned on merit, not potential, going forward.
^^this

The injury Dach had leaves residual effects. He was never going to be fully healthy this year, and it appears even while wearing a brace he might've re-injured a ligament.
I'm devastated for the kid, but as a fan I kind of let go of the fact he was going to be the 2C. He doesn't seem to be able to play a 200 ft game, and like his laid back personality, doesn't play a consistently intense game either. Some guys can turn it on, he doesn't seem to be able to do it game in and game out. It's something Slafkovsky is trying to achieve.
Maybe he comes back and becomes a power forward / winger and habs have a place for him on the wing in the top 9. He has great hands, and of course he's 6'4.

We need to find that 2C now. Going to be a fascinating summer.
Does HuGo make a giant offer for Petersson? Cozens? Zegras?
I don't know what they do, but they have the assets to do something big if they want -
when was the last time we could say that as fans?

As Much as I liked Dach when he was on, I think that we can't peg him in as our 2C and need to find a better solution. If Dach makes a comeback then we'll at least have an asset we can trade for another piece if needed.

i doubt newhook will be a good 3rd liner. I think its time to pull the plug on him.
I don't know why you'd say this. He doesn't have the finish of a top sixer but he's got speed and can help to drive the play. Last year he played really well. This year not so much. Too inconsistent to rely on for the 2nd line but that's why we evaluated him this season.... now we know.

I'm not married to the idea of keeping him but why do we need to pull the plug on anything here?
Xhekaj is not giving any confidence he can be part of a winning core
I like this guy and he provides a dimension we lack. He's never going to be a core player but so what? He's fine on the third pairing.

Yeah, I have no hope left for him. I was hoping he'd get through the season and have a great summer, but the injuries are too serious and numerous, during a period that's crucial for development. It's a shame because he looked so good before the injury against CHI.

I don't like smaller players who don't compete or forecheck well enough on the 3rd line. Either he does that effectively or he provides some offense. Neither isn't ideal.

I'd rather an Evans type of player on the 3rd line than a newhook

He's got all of next season to prove himself. It's do or die, should be interesting.

I think he can be a place holder until his contract runs out, but I don't see Newhook s part of a future Cup-winning team in Montreal.

You need to understand that you can make the right move and get the wrong outcome. We didn't get swindled on anything. We had rotten luck.

There's a world of difference.

Trading Romanov for a 13th was the right move, flipping that pick for a guy who just horribly injured his wrist, and struggled to produce, while playing with Kane and Debricat, was a bad move.

is this a freak injury or our inept medical team letting guys play when they clearly shouldn't be? Maybe this team needs to slap some heads ?

The were both money moves, it's not as if they didn't know they were parting ways with good players. DeBrincat was a rising stud

According to some posters in this thread, if a young player is traded it means they're bad.

Chicago also gave up on Terevainen a few years before that.

The Habs' rosters have been severely injured every year that I've been paying attention except for 2008 and 2013.

And even then, Streit and Eller being injured hurt come playoff time.

The silver lining is that Laine-Beck-Newhook have been playing very well together. Beck add a dimension to the trio that they needed. Grit and hockey IQ

It's actually more damning of Dach if Beck is already a better center than him.
