Dach's skating has really improved over the past few weeks. Very noticeable.
Yup someone posted a month or so ago that Dach had clocked some decent speed.
At the time that might have been the case but he certainly took forever to reach it.
While he was already showing signs of coming out of his funk he was a completely different skater coming out of the Christmas break. I have no idea if it was mental physical or if he was simply out of game shape.
His stops and starts become much crisper allowing him to engage in the play much quicker.

I thought he had his best game of the season yesterday, offensively at least. He looked crazy good

The offense is coming along, but the defensive side is still a work in progress. He got some Selke consideration back in 2023, he's not at that level yet.

This is the Dach I remember. Great skating through the neutral zone, smart short passes from the half wall, attacking the net with aggressivity, a pain on the forecheck.

I don’t want to jinx it, but Dach is back?

Put him on PP1. Slaf can't keep up there. Dach is a way better skater, has more strength and has a better shot
Dach doesn’t have a better shot than Slaf lol.

Plus weird time for whining about Slaf, he’s been very good on the PP these last 2 games. Especially since he’s back on the right half wall and can control the play. Laine’s goal yesterday doesn’t exist without Slaf.

Definitely is. And he has been shooting on net more than ever, he looks confident.

I still don't see 1C potential or him overtaking Suzuki, but can still be a 50-point physical center which is still a great player.
We don't need him to be a 1C, but we need a pretty good 2C and that means about 25 goals and 60-65 points. Now with Laine and Demi, I'm thinking the assists will be a lot more than that.

Noticed he's not taking many faceoffs these days. Seems like his wingers take faceoffs, but he still plays the role of center when the game is in play.

Yeah but I've seen him get caught out in a winger's position more than once when he was supposed to be patrolling the middle of the ice. He and Newhook aren't always on the same page when it comes to defensive coverage.
It is causing us some grief.

Dach's birthday today

24 years old today
Good we need a really mature game out of him this evening... :D

They really gotta get Laine inked

Can't do it until July of this year. And it might be connected to both Laine/Ehlers coming as a package. I think that is not false smoke and I really do think Ehlers wants to join our team. Very curious to see what Hughes thinks on how this all fits.

Dach to me can reach 60 pts but the biggest question is can he be a trusted center against other teams contenders in the match-up game. Right now, we have Evans behind him but if you take Evans out, that puts way more pressure on Dach at the center game.

Laine - Demidov - Dach is always a possibility too..

Dach was basically a star RW next to Suzuki - Caufield year and a half ago
So we know he can do it

It's can Demi be an NHL C

It seems like Dach and Newhook are sharing the faceoffs depending on what side of the ice they are on. My problem with Dach (today) is similar to our issues with Patch a few years ago. Good players that will grow and improve but where are they when you really need them? Are they the playoff pieces that helps you win games? I love that we added Dach to our roster but I keep going back/forth with how he will be in his prime. I do feel we have a 60 pts center/winger type and I would be trying him at RW with Demidov at center.

Habs lost almost every key faceoff against the Leafs on Saturday (half way to end of game). It was very noticeable for me in the puck possession game. And the Leafs didn't have Tavares. Domi was winning a lot against both Suzuki and Evans too. People are talking about Monty but the major part of why we lost that game was not being able to win key faceoffs. Last thing you want against the Leafs is to give them the puck right off a faceoff.

It's one thing to have a skilled roster with skating but you need to gain puck possession to get the best results.

Dach as the RW with center experience with Demidov at center is worth trying for sure. It's not like we are married to this idea and have to stick with it. It's something we can try in camp and preseason games to test it. And then go from there.

Dach has 8 pts and 7 goals over his last 13 games. His best group of games this year so far.

The issue I have with Dach as a center is his vision/play making is not great and his faceoffs are not good at all. The part I do like his his skating and size and how he can be a physical type. I think is closer to a power forward type than he is at center. I hope he proves me wrong and he still has time to do it.

I really do think our best move is Dach at RW and Demidov at center.
