Kingston Frontenacs 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iii

Training camp is going to be interesting. My only concern is tht if players are not going to get inutes then they should at least for the start of the year play OJHL to get used to the size and speed.

My comment about Snyder is strictly because he is an American and he had some interesting numbers. i just do not see a family sending him north to play OJHL. The USHL draft will giveus a better idea of where some of these kids on alltems are going to go.

I'm not sure what is so confusing about what I said.
IE: The GM and Coach are the only one's making bank.
it's very hard to make a career working in the OHL. -It's a stepping stone is what i meant.

Aren’t you the guy who claims to have been scouting the OHL for the past six years?

If there’s not enough money to motivate you to be an AGM in the OHL, I’m surprised that scouting the OHL pays so much more that you’ve been motivated enough to do it for six years.

im not sure he 'scouts' the ohl. i think he works as a fancy stat guy

I most definitely do not scout for an OHL team if that’s what you are asking.
I do work across the Chl & Ahl collecting information / data that is used by NHL teams and Leagues.
Moved more into the Sports data / science side.

How much do you think an OHL ast gm makes?

How many AGMs are ONLY AGMs? Aren’t they usually wearing multiple hats?

I remember the days when the Head Coach was the GM and the Assistant Coach was the AGM. How things have changed.

Besides, the AGM doesn’t have a significant day to day role. They usually take care of the travel and keep track of the prospects etc. In some cases, the AGM is the head coach of the main JrA affiliate or the Head Scout.

I think the point is, I doubt anyone is supporting a family being a Ohl AGM or Ohl scout. They all have primary jobs to go along with it.

It’s a very underpaid gig that is more suited for someone young and upcoming (maybe living with parents still) or old and retired that can afford to work for almost free because they are mortgage free.

Not ideal for a mid 30s guy like myself
who has a wife, kid, mortgage, etc
GM & HC usually gets all the dough!

Why would you prefer to be an OHL scout instead of an OHL assistant GM?

I never said I would prefer one or the other but there is pro's and con's to both as the AGM has way more responsibility and headache dealing with the parents, agents and kids but doesn't make a lot of money.

The GM on the other hand is usually compensated enough to make a career out of it. (that I would definitely take over being a OHL scout)
Scouts can make 8/10 mistakes and still skate through without much attention on them.
GM/AGM make 1 bad decision and they are lit up for it.
If that makes sense.

Personally i love the role I'm in now as i pretty much answer to nobody and get paid in the Euro + i make my own schedule. -I can go to any rink within reason so i try to stick to Ontario, West QC & upstate NY (Lake Ontario Loop) -This allows me to sleep in my own bed as much as possible and be close to my family.

Yeah. I guess my point is the AGM can hold down a real job or at least a seasonal job on top of the hockey job of they are not doing anything other than the normal AGM duties. Thats why the AGM is usually doing other things for the organization of it is a full time gig.

Does anyone know when the rookie/orientation camp is? Last year it was the first weekend of May but I haven't heard anything - although it could've been pushed back a week or two because they made it a round further than last year.

True.

London announced theirs already though and they’ll be playing for quite a while longer.

Canada 4-0 at the U18 Tournament - outscoring opponents 29-5 so far in round robin games.
1/4 Finals start tomorrow

Friday they play the states in the semis barring any HUGE upsets

Hopkins needs to get some points. 1 of only 6 players on team Canada to not register one so far through 3 games

I'd be curious to see TOI - I haven't been watching but I think in his games he's been listed as 4C so he's probably not high quality icetime.

We can go watch the Black & Gold game from 9:30-11:30am this Sunday May 4th.

Looks like everyone from that last two drafts except Malhotra (obvious reasons) and Kayden Oliver (2024 9th - 0.5PPG in GOJHL this year) will be in attendance.

8 FA invites on the front end is interesting - shows the lack of depth. A little surprised they don't have Shewfelt invited as a U18 pick from last year.

As expected the FA invites are mostly local guys but there are a couple interesting ones that stuck out - Robin Kuzma is an American '07 that played a couple USNTDP U17 games, a couple USHL games but mostly 16U in the states, playing with Fronts pick Nathan Kutansky. Also the brother of former pick Andrew Kuzma.

Mate Tardi - another American '07, played prep in the States, led Mt Saint Charles in scoring, but has interestingly also played internationally with the Hungary U18 team.

Lastly they brought in one of the more higher scoring GOJHL '08s last year in Daniel Adamo - listed at only 5'8" 141lbs so not much in the way of size.

I know I'm very likely overthinking the FAs but if the two Americans show well, with the likely roster turnover they could have a couple open spots.

@leafs4life94 Good call on Kuzma. This is his U15 AAA stats(2023/24) Played U16 this year and was on pace for 95pts in 75 games of U16 which is how many he played in his U15 year

Gordon-Carroll is a great rookie with Medicine Hat in the WHL. Would produce more on a lower end team where he gets more minutes.

Varga had a decent year with Kelowna in the WHL 24pts in 58 games

Jack Hextall has no relation to Ron Hextall but had good numbers for a rookie with Youngstown in the USHL 34pts in 53 games

Kuzma could be a middle 6er on our team (my guess) and may end up being a pleasant surprise for 17 year old (08- not 07)OHL free agent.

It makes me feel so much better that Barrie got destroyed by Oshawa. Of course their goaltending goes to shit as soon as they move past us, London v. Oshawa V2

See I almost go the other way with the "what if" scenario - even the Gens they absolutely dummied Kingston this year, I'd like to think Kingston would've put up a better fight against Oshawa, so it stings a little deeper.
