Kingston Frontenacs 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iii

8th - Nolan Snyder, American from Pittsburgh, big numbers (58GP, 33G, 66A, 89P), small size but not super slight (5'9", 170lbs)

8th - Marcus Magri, Oakville C, just over PPG, decent size already at 6'1"

Moore in for McGowan on a pairing with Uens, Williamson with Pieniniemi.

Bigger news is that Burns is in - meaning either it's not an automatic suspension or they rescinded it.

Hopefully they can have the same kind of possession they had through 40 in Game 1, but they need to create more chances with it - not just empty O-Zone minutes and low danger shots.

Hayes-Hay-Pickell starting - best line vs Sudbury

I would not put anything into how the pairings are listed at all. It won't take long to realize those are not pairings they intend to stick with. The main five will be in a blender and Moore will be spot shifted. Hopefully things are going well and they will be able to get him a bit more ice here and there. Moore will likely not be on the ice unless he is out with Burns on occasion and maybe Uens periodically. Need to stay out of the box tonight as not having 11 means we only have three of our regular PK D.

Our best players need to be our best players tonight. I hope the fourth line brings the same energy as last game, but the top guys need to follow suit. Time for 7 to step up and get it going on the back end. Play with some urgency and control the play.

Let's go Fronts. Steal that home ice advantage back tonight!

welp at least it’s best of 7 right? Lol
Went down 2-0 vs the colts in 2018. Came back and won in 6. Hoping for more of that again.

Oddly enough that year as well- colts 2nd seed and fronts 3rd.

Series far from over- the way Hillebrandt has been playing except for the lapse for 4 mins in the second period is not sustainable.

He will get tired at some point. 83 shots across 2 games. Fronts getting lots of chances just Hillebrandt is doing really well.

Assume fronts go back to Charlie game 3 in kingston and I expect him to be the Charlie of the first round. Better be pretty packed but Tuesday and Thursday games aren’t optimal especially in Kingston

I think that maybe they need to get into Hildebrand's space and his head. mess with him. Don't neet to take penalties but have some of the big forwards crowd him.

Playoffs are really about who has the hot goalie and how much our defence can keep people outside the box.
Definitley need to win Tuesday for sure. Should be a good game

Well that sucked. Two identical, absolutely brutal goals on Schenkel. That cannot happen and Mann needs to have him on a short leash because they can't have goals like that going in in such a massive game 3.

They need more from some of their top guys. Pieniniemi might have scored tonight but he has been invisible all playoffs. Willis having the same amount of points as Schenkel isn't good.

I don't know when he got benched but I don't think I saw Miedema the entire third. Could just be him being out there but not contributing, but either way - not ideal.

I understand it's the the rule, but I absolutely hate that they can review high sticks after the fact. Heyes' call tonight also got me thinking, why the hell did they not review the one on Pieniniemi in game 1?

Their special teams are embarassing. PP is 2/19, PK is 11/17. Their combined special teams % is 75.2% - ideally that's above 90%. Something has to change - but I mean it also doesn't help that when they've been shorthanded, it's been their PK guys in the box.

I've also been thinking towards the future with the draft finishing today - will Wright be back next year?

I can't imagine he's particularly happy being scratched as often as he has, and his original commitment was due to start next year.

I agree. Would like Miedema to do more of that. Maybe move him up a line and I’d switch him out for one of our guys on the powerplay. Give the kid a chance to do some damage. They need to change up the powerplay somehow. Clearly not working. Either put Miedema in for Willis or put Hopkins back for Willis IMO.

Hopkins was on there for most of the year when it was so successful. I say go back to that.

Couldn’t agree more. If you whine enough you get the calls. Except when fronts were whining game 1 they get a warning. Different refs. Makes Ferguson look even worse in game 1.

Absolutely. Been their biggest demise thus far. Hillebrandt #2 reason why there’s down 0-2

I agree. However he would be INCREDIBLY stupid to go to the NCAA after he’s been struggling this much in the OHL. When he plays guys who are bigger, faster, stronger, older and more defence orientated that’ll make it even worse for him.

He’s from Belleville no harm in staying next year and re evaluating. Potentially year after too as I don’t think he will be ready. 2 more years of Troy and 2 more years of Wright would line up. Leave when you’re done your OA season with us- some guys take a while to get acquainted in the league. He is very raw still.

Just looking at Wrights stats and he really has ot shined anywhere he has been. U Maine must have seen something in him though.

With only one year left, if he stays OHL, I think he is better off going to Maine and seeing what happens. The education part of the package I am sure is going to be a lot better that way. Do the freshman thing learn Maine's system and play his way onto the main team

It also opens a spot for the drafted players

As to the PP when you get one put Miedema in front of the net and leavehim there wit the orders to crowd the crease.

Guys getting in Hildebrandts face is the only way you are going to win he is hot and needs to be put off his game.

Issue is- with that goaltending you aren't winning 4 of the next 5 games.

Also, even if hillebrandt were to be "tired", they have hrebik who honestly might be a better goalie.

As you mentioned, when Heyes who is arguably your best pk guy is in the box for 12 mins and McGowan gone for playoffs who is top 2 d PK guys it sure doesn’t help. That being said they need to clean both up if they want back into this series.
