Kingston Frontenacs 2024-25 Season Thread, Part II

Decent first period but on that short handed goal. Burns fanned on the pass but I believe the guy right there with him was Uronen and D’amato raced way past him and made it a 2 on 1. Could’ve been a 2 on 2 but Uronen either didn’t try to get back or gave up. Don’t ever have anything negative to say about Uronen ever but that goal was a heart breaker. Short handed goal right before period ends

All said and done 4/6 is definitely a good one weekend considering the teams played, but it shows there's still so room for improvement.

Friday - great game against the hottest team. That's the kind of game they'll need night in/night out in the playoffs. Absolute bomb by Uronen on the PP and one of the nicer goals all year with Battaglia and Guindon.

Saturday - amazing start, let off the gas pedal and let Niagara get back into it. Pretty safely the best 4th line game all year - Clark has an incredible wrist shot and with all the players graduating next year it wouldn't surprise me if he put up 20+ next year with the increased opportunity.

Sunday - Schenkel kept them in it for as long as he could but eventually the rebounds and effort in front of him end up turning it into a gongshow. Hopefully Hay isn't out long-term - I know the hits are 100% legal and it would've been a significantly worse outcome with the old stanchions but I still find running someone into the curved glass as predatory.

Good to see Williamson back - again a clean hit in a vacuum but you can't waive the icing off that late. Williamson may have slowed up a little bit but the call is supposed to be made when the first player hits the faceoff dots. Make the judgement call on if the puck is going to get there and make the decision - the puck being at the goal line is too late for a player to protect themself.

Oshawa doesn't really scare me as a team like Brantford or even a healthy Barrie - lots of talent obviously, solid goaltending and they've clearly had Kingston's number - what scares me about a potential playoff match-up is that Kingston's composure just goes out the window when they play them. Burns had an awful game (although that call at the beginning of the 3rd is 100% a reputation call) - but they just need to move on and focus on another tough couple games this weekend with Windsor and Barrie.

I noticed Adam Kelly getting a lot more ice-time with top 9 players last night, most of it was after the Hay injury but I think he had some shifts before too - he's another one that'll be a big player next year.

I agree and disagree on the Williamson hit, at the very least it was a boarding and best a charge, that being said it never should have been waved off, and definitely not that late. The linesman waved it off after it cross the goal line. I was at the game, and happened to be in standing room toward that end, so got a good view of it. He ended up with 5 stitches by the way. Hay was in the stands afterwards and he said he was ok.

Thinking out loud here but for the Coach of the Year finalists I’d have to assume it would be Williamson(Bar), Walters(Wsr) and Mann(Kgn)

Probably the edge to Walters taking over the team that finished last in the west and 2nd last in the league last year (next to Niagara) with just 44pts. 2nd in west right now(3rd in points with 81) in only 56 games so far. Prob hits 90+ points this season and more than doubles their previous year’s point total

Maybe you’re saying in the leagues eyes they would consider him but Williamson was handed a super team that should be performing much better. I think walters for sure. He changed that culture and got all the players to buy in to the rough tough play style.

Marty also has the benefit of making all the decisions on and off the ice and not having to go through a GM.
I wouldn't say he was "handed" a super team.
He literally had to build that team he coaches himself. (Maybe he handed it to himself lol)
NB also handed him a whole first forward line to a degree but there will be more to that trade this summer.

Just going based off where teams were last year.

Walter’s clear winner imo with Mann second. Williamson/Ahokas maybe 3rd but ahokas got a crap ton of players to commit to them such as pridham and Humphries so really how bad could they be just losing Rehkopf

Completely agree. He should be a top 6 guy for sure if he keeps this up. Next year isn’t even his NHL draft year either. Long way to go obviously but with him being so young he has a lot of OHL potential at the very least

He has gotten bigger and gained some weight. His speed is top end that's for sure. He has also stopped trying the cute/dipsy doodle type stuff and is more north/south and grinder as befitting of a player on 4th line. It's nice to see him adapt

Absolutely. That will help not only his OHL career but potentially his NHL one too if there is one. Can’t just be one dimensional have to learn how to hit and play defence too to make it to the big leagues

Is he playing RW if so, next year, he may get a chance at playing 2nd line. I am not sure what you have for RW after Soto. I don't see Uronen coming back.

Any word on unronen and Miedema and the NHL? If they don't have something by Jun they go back into the draft, and that would mean that you could have Miedema back next year as an OA. I think Uronen might try a rookie camp and if not signed by someone as a walk-on, then go back home to play pro

I wouldn't be bringing either of them back as OA's. I think they would have more value in trades to teams that get fleeced thinking they are getting players that give 100 percent effort and care.

Kelly has been centre most of his shifts this year.

I don't see Miedema signing an nhl contract. I could see him going NCAA route - he is a good student and probably would do well in the university game. Uronen will likely get an ELC from Vegas and I could see him playing north american pro next season.

Soto has been a frustrating player to watch over the years. He seems like he is good enough, but is so forgettable almost every game he plays.

Uronen will 99.9% be in Henderson next season.

If it was pretty much any other team then Buffalo I'd lean toward Miedema not getting his ELC.
Buffalo has been known to do some funny things though and may not be ready to give up their 4th round pick. Wouldn't shock me if they take a leap of faith.

Plus i don't think Ethan would be even on the top 5 life of choices of players to bring back for an OA season.

Vegas would be incredibly stupid not to sign Uronen. He is gone for sure. Miedema not so sure. A month ago I thought it was about 70/30 or 60/40 for if he would be gone but he hasn’t been doing great as of late I’d now put it as 40/60 or 50/50

If he comes back next year and am absolutely positive they will trade him. Just a matter of when, where and for how much. Could be off season and could be start of season, could be trade deadline. Whenever the value is the highest probably. Soto would be in the same boat probably(but is coming back for sure)

McGowan is another guy probably getting traded at some point. He could be a pretty good top 4 d on a championship calibre team next year if he progresses.

Bishop could play 2-6 on a middling team or bottom 4 on a top team next year so should get a package for him as well.

Hay would be a middle 6 good centre, reliable defensively, brings size, some skill and some checking(with leadership of course too)

and then there’s Willis. He probably won’t be back but he hasn’t exactly “lit up” the OHL yet. He was doing well with Saginaw this year but since coming to Kingston it took a little bit for him to get used to the system etc here and then he has been hurt for a little while and still isn’t back yet I don’t believe. The smartest thing for him probably is to play either OHL or NCAA next year for his development. For the fronts sake- hopefully the OHL. If he is back he will be among the top 5-10 OA’s for sure next year.

Uens may stay on the fronts as his value is more to the fronts than they’d get from trading him and with the rest of these guys likely gone or traded, they’ll need bodies to replace them. Same with vaccari potentially(but I could see them getting an upgrade if cheap) and pickell
