I see this trade as adding a pylon on a two year contract on the roster for a UFA to be AHL pylon we signed in the offseason.

Have you seen his play this season? That's a trick question. I don't care to know. But, as always, not everybody is going to be happy. And Modry? Seriously. GTFO.

The fact remains.. I choose Scuderi every time. I don't expect him to be the same player. But, I can tel, he was respected and well liked around the dressing room and that's something we always have room for. Sure, it's depth, but it's depth the team can count on.

I only saw him play twice and he looked like he was skating in mud like before but his brain was also behind the play.

Honestly I think he's toast, even if he'd be insulated here, and I don't think he CAN be insulated with the d-core we have. Don't want him up the lineup with Doughty/Muzzin/Martinez, don't want him stuck with Schenn/McBain down the lineup either, though.

Why are people suddenly ready to dump all our depth when they play our system to a T?

Ignore the advanced stats for a moment, even though Lewis/Brown/Shore play defense by being in the defensive zone about 1/3 of the time or less--there's a weardown effect there that's ESPECIALLY prevalent in a playoff series when we get our aggressive forecheck and cycle going. Guys like Brown and Lewis just absolutely destroy teams doing that and Shore has already joined them on that end. Do we want more production for them? Sure. But swapping them out for "more production" at THIS point is a shake up just for sake of a shakeup.

And while I understand the hate people sometimes have for our 4th line especially based on numbers, reality is we have one of the top 4th lines in the league, and one of the reasons people around here dislike them so much is simply because Sutter plays them so much compared to some 4ths around the league. They're arguably the 2nd best 4th line in the league at what they do because they're not JUST one dimensional.

I'm not convinced. That they immediately sent Gravel down and are having Scuds join us tells me they're going to see what they have--which I don't' have a problem with--but I worry that sentimentality will get the best of our guys and he'll stick in the lineup.

I'm happy he's good in the room and honestly I'm generally happy he's back but as a #7 I hope...but I just think it's funny that one of the reasons we had such success early on was that we had 6 guys on D that could skate and move the puck. Getting Schenn was a step back away from that. Mayor suggesting Greene coming back is another redundancy. Getting Scuds is yet another. And none of those REALLY solve our RHD problem. And I worry we'll be seeing something like Doughty - McNabb / Muzzin - Schenn / Martinez - Greene come playoff time.

Yes I've seen Scuderi on both Penguins (vs. Flyers) and Blackhawks (vs Hurricanes and Yotes). He wasn't exactly a guy they could rely on-hence my Modry reference.

Great for the locker room, but at the end of the day they need another 3/4 defenseman cos Doughty can't handle all the load and Scuderi is not the answer.

I'll just say it right now - I bet Scuderi plays very solid in a limited role. He won't be worse than Ehrhoff.

No ones jumping off bridges, but we're not homers either and see this doesn't make us better or make sense,since Blake has already made it known the Kings will not give up any high picks or high prospects to actually upgrade what we need to contend.So saving money on this deal is a waste of time when you're shopping for pylons and dumpster diving.I hope I'm wrong and Scuds actually does well.

I heavily disagree, and I think the JJ trade is a bad comparable in situation because he was immediately replaced with Voynov. Who replaces Brown and Lewis?

And you can't just leave advanced stats out of it, so i have to come back here--Lewis and Brown being so good at the zone control part of the game allows us to bring in a possession drain like Vinny to do his thing. Those 'tradeoffs' can be made from an analytics standpoint as we're still a crazy 3% higher than ANYONe else and more like 5-7% higher than the average team, but you have to bring in someone that can make that worthwhile (i.e. when we brought in Gaborik for scoring punch).

Please explain how this would benefit the Kings and who you'd get to replace them?

Replacing Brown and Lewis - plenty UFAs that actually have some production up their sleeve.
Corsi is fine and everything but Brown/Lewis offensive zone inabilities cost Kings points in the standings as well and they drag their lines to 0 offensive productivity. This isn't desirable for potential matches vs Ducks/Blackhawks...

This move confuses me. I've watched scuderi the past 2 years and he has been absolute garbage 5on5. Which leads me to believe he will be a pk specialist to take minutes away from Martinez who is struggling with the heavier minutes (IMO). So plays maybe 7-8 mins a game. This will ensure Drew plays 30+ per game for the home stretch and playoffs.

His PK instincts have always been good so if he improves our PK then it could be a win/win thing for us. But those are some big "ifs"... Which is why I'm confused on the real reason.
