Why not? He's 1 of the best young hockey players in the world playing outside North America.

Blake shouldn't be looking exclusively at picks and <20 year old prospects.
He played two seasons in Edmonton and hasn't been back. Seems like a red flag to me. I'm tired of "potential." A sure thing would be nice.

I'm fine if we keep Martinez honestly, we'll have an even younger blueline next year and it can't just be Doughty (not even counting Forbort at this point).

I'm only okay with Toffoli signing an extension if it's after we've traded him at the deadline for at least a 2nd + B prospect and he comes back in the summer and basically signs for the same 2 year deal he was on.

Sure thing? from a trade?? I think you have a misunderstanding of what this team needs.
Picks much like prospects are lottery tickets, taking a chance on a guy thats developing like Puljujarvi lowers the risk of missing with a 2nd rounder. Hell, Puljujarvi would instantly join the top 5 of our prospect pool which is exactly what we should be looking for.

Given his track record so far, he's already a miss with the 2nd rounder. We already have several projects under our wings. I don't think loading up on more is a good thing.

No way you keep Amart. You get the goods at the TDL. If you need another vet on the blueline for next year you sign someone in the offseason.

Send toffoli off for picks, resign him in the summer on a similar 1 year deal, rinse and repeat at the TDL next year for more picks

It's a good draft this year and if we learned anything from the BTS videos from last years draft it's that the extra picks help you move up to get your guy. ::cough:: Fagemo ;)

Are you expecting something different?
I’ve been waiting for the Kings to move Carter to Kopitar’s wing all season, but they just can’t do it because the Kings have no 2nd line center. If Vilardi is healthy and continues to develop, I would love to see him earn that spot next season. Having Vilardi and maybe Kalieyev on the team might make the 2020-21 season half worth watching.

Puljujarvi is far from a project. He simply needs a change of scenery. At worse he turns into a 20g power forward..
as for the 2nd rounders, I not sure who you’re talking about? Blake and Co has absolute killed the past 3 drafts

Assuming we only move Toffoli from the forward group this season, our top six could look like this next season:

Iafallo - Kopitar - Kaliyev
Kempe - Vilardi - Carter

Adding two more potential threats elevates the whole team.

Don’t think Kaliyev is ready for a full NHL season. Maybe he gets the 9-game showcase, but I’m thinking one more year in the OHL is best.

Do we really want to see a Toffoli that's happy to take a similar contract to what he currently has so that he's near the beach? If anything, you want him to have to come back groveling, desperate for a league minimum two way deal, for 1 year. However, you don't send him to Ontario if he's not good enough, but loan him out to some cold weather place.

The thing about Martinez, is he's having a career worst season. Who knows what that injury is doing to him. If the market is there, of course you pull the trigger yesterday without thinking twice about it, but because of that extra year, you can be a little more picky with AM.

This slow crawl to the trade deadline is agonizing. Each day when I wake up I'm hoping to see there was a trade and somebody overpaid for Toffoli and Martinez.

I'd say relax. A trade will happen when it happens. This is the NHL with a hard cap. It's boring when it comes to trades. 2 weeks is nothing.

You’re looking at the twilight of the careers of Quick, Carter, and Brown in those two years. Then a whole new class of Kings prospects arrive as the old guard is eased out.

2020-21:
Grundstrom-Kopitar-Carter
Iafallo-Vilardi-Kaliyev
Kempe-Lizotte-Wagner
Clifford-Amadio-Brown

if the Kings resign Toffoli then Kaliyev would wait a year to make the team. Vilardi is key to the rebuild. Giant hole at 2C that he must fill.

I don't see Kaliyev being ready next year. Maybe a look in camp and 9 games.

As for Vilardi, I hope you're right. It would be great if he came to camp next year on a mission and played his way on to the team. Him earning a roster and playing well throughout the year would really help to balance this team.

Put Carter and Brown on line 4. They are both doing almost nothing now in the top 6. They will only be less effective next year.

Guys come on it's obviously going to be this 2020/21 opening night:

Iafallo - Kopitar - Puljujarvi
Kempe - Vilardi - Grundstrom
Prokhorkin - Carter - Brown
Moore - Lizotte - Amadio

Kaliyev likely won't be ready (although he could surprise) and there's no reason to rush him. Poolparty will come back in the Toffoli trade and score 30 in his first season.

I would love this as next years lineup minus Amadio. I think we need to move on from him. His skill is obviously there. His speed and agility lack in the modern day NHL. I think you sign a 4th line winger for 1 year with a couple full seasons under his belt instead. Couldn’t agree more with Kaliyev. He will be a future 30+ goal scorer but his play away from the puck will need major work.

I think D next year looks like this

Bjornfot - DD
UFA - Walker
Mac - Roy
Clague/Mikey

You guys dont want Wagner in the lineup? I think hell be one of those guys that comes through in the playoffs. When things get too mucky for the McDavids to break through, its the Smith Pelleys and Maroons that come through. Wagner has it in him.

Also wondering if anyone caught that clip last game of a Doughty interview? He said something like he cant get up for games against teams like the Panthers cause he doesnt know anyone on that team.
If anyone had questions about the teams leadership, I think that should be enough to see the problem. The guy makes big bucks and has an A on his jersey and thats how he acts. You want that attitude around younger players? Does he even engage with younger players? Seems like hed rather only pass to Kopitar or shoot into the other teams shinguards than make a play with someone else.
Say what you want about Martinez, who is not even half the talent of Doughty, but hell lay down to block a shot on a Tuesday evening against Detroit if it would help his team.

You have to understand Kings' board logic -- Grundstrom deserves to be on the second line even though he can't even make the team yet. Wagner, a regular now, probably creates more grade A scoring chances with 4th line minutes than the rest of the team combined -- yet he needs to be gone altogether. Wagner and Grundstrom are the same age.

Puts on Carnack hat........................

Iaffalo-Kopitar-Frk
Kempe-Vilardi-Carter
Moore-Lizotte-Brown
Grundstrom-Amadio-Wagner
Prohorkin-JAD

Grundstrom and Vilardi make the jump full-time. Frk because why not! At least we know he can provide offense. We're not going to sign a UFA forward of note unless it's Toffoli. I think Turcotte turns pro and plays in ONT. Kaliyev will be a late cut in camp and go back to the OHL. Thomas, Dudas, Kupari and Fagemo go to ONT. Of course, it's possible we get a promising prospect in a trade at the deadline that's ready to make the jump next season like Borgstrom of the Florida Panthers.

The D is really up in the air. If Martinez is traded, only 2 guys are signed for next season, Doughty and Roy (one of the best 7th round players in the NHL if you ask me). Walker and MacD are RFA's. It wouldn't shock me if they signed Forbort (especially if Amart is traded). Bjornfot has the best roster chance despite the fact he'll only be 19. Anderson has a good foundation but he's not ready. Clague will have to show he can play consistent D, which is still in doubt. He is talented though. Brickley has size but seems to be a long shot at this point. Likely a couple of middle of the road UFA's are brought in.

Yeah. Wagner's speed is so elite that it is foolish to pencil him out of future lineups. Again, he's leading the team in hits this season as well so he's a nice 4th line forward to have once the top three lines get some skill injections.
