The idea the salary cap is going up seems to be pie in the sky now. I cut the cord finally with directv, so I'll be curious where they will be broadcasting games.

NHL package was a joke this year because with ESPN+ they took part of the games away. Then HNIC broadcast did not include the Afterhours post game anymore. I DMed directv and the league about it and they said it was because CBC didn't want to offer it anymore. Then magically they showed it for two weeks and stopped showing it again. The last nail in the coffin was since I have had the package the first round of the playoffs offered the regional broadcasts of the games. That was done away with as well.

As far as losing Faust, I feel for the guy, but I am certain he can get a contract with FS1 and ESPN doing college football and hockey. He did a great job with Petros doing PAC12 games.

Given how they operate their own streaming radio network, they would likely replay the same thing on a constant loop 24 hours a day with zero fresh content.
They could play the 2012 documentary on loop for all I care. lol Ideally, you'd get old games and interviews and other cool things, but yeah it would likely just be repeated crap.

I guess we'll see 30 other teams following suit in short order then right?

Is there anything more Kings than letting go of a promising young talent in favor of a late-game veteran because of poor management?
I don't think Luc, let alone Rob, would have anything to do with who gets to broadcast Kings games. That's probably the owners call.

I’m wondering, how on earth did Ballys land all these contracts when their company wasn’t in good standing. How on earth did this happen? I can’t imagine getting this deal and being in shambles.

Did no one check their company?
they were given the rights after Disney bought Fox's assets,
Re the bolded, you would think....

Stupid Ballys, just give the rights back to Disney. But seriously this is effecting the Clippers, Ducks, Kings and Padres. Can’t those 4 owners pool together and start their own network??

Everything Disney touches turns to shit these days.

They can't. The whole reason they were spun off was because Disney owns ESPN and it would rattle the FTC's cage.

Disney can't acquire Bally's because of monopoly stuff with them already owning ESPN.

But, this might be a perfect opportunity for a young streamer company to get into sports, like a Netflix maybe?

uh... yes?

MLB is taking over many of the broadcasts that are currently on Bally's (see the Padres) .. NBA may as well,)

its kind of hard for a team to handle the broadcast operations when their broadcast partner goes belly up

I rarely get to watch regular season games ever since FSW went off the streaming services (two years now). Beyond the occasional national or Hulu game. I'm hoping this Bally's stuff completely blows up and we get something different -- different may lead me to having a chance to routinely watch regular season games.

THANK YOU JESUS!!!!
Good to know I wasn’t the only one who couldn’t stand Faust’s play by play. His voice, his demeanor, his lack of hockey acumen was palpable from day one. And his misuse of hockey terms like “cherry picking” drove me nuts. My daughter used to get a kick out of watching me ball my fist up every time Faust would try to get creative with his calling of a game. I met him a few times and he was a very nice young man, but I could not stand him as our PxP guy. When you’ve had Bob Miller as long as we did, management is obligated to bring in a guy who can at least carry his slippers. Alex was just an entire galaxy away from Bob. I don’t care who liked him, I don’t care if Bally was trying a new direction. When you move on from a Hall of Fame broadcaster, you damn well better bring the goods! Nick was always the obvious choice for me. I’m glad he’s the guy now!

I think that would be smart. For many people they need a final push over the edge to ditch traditional cable for streaming, and once they get there, certain programming to push them towards a certain service, sports checks both boxes.

Netflix lagged more than I expected in trying to pick up live sports programming, but seems to be more aggressive in the last year or so.

For those of us out of market, I don’t think it’s much difference from those who are local. I think if there are games televised locally they will also be on ESPN+ for those out of market (per the contract between Disney and the NHL)

Faust will be fine, following a legend is a difficult task for anyone, but he did a good job and got some national attention from being on TNT.

Hopefully we get a more balanced broadcast with Nickson. Nick clearly wants the Kings to win, but he is willing to call out crap play, something we rarely saw from Faust or Fox. Also, hopefully Jim Fox returns to how he was with Miller, he talked way to much for an analyst after Faust took over.

Well, Bally's has already been screwing Kings fans since they took over since they still thought the RSN world was that of ten years ago so practically none of the carriers renewed the carriage contracts when they expired. I've been without Bally's since the 2019-20 season, I believe.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out RE: where will games be broadcast.

Yet

"The Padres primary TV broadcasters Don Orsillo, Mark Grant, and Bob Scanlan will continue to serve in their existing roles, while 97.3 The Fan’s radio team will remain in place as well with Jesse Agler and Tony Gwynn Jr. calling games from the booth."

So even the small market teams aren't scuffing their people over it.

Faust will be fine and maybe they had discussions that this was a better opportunity for him, but no, so far, the Kings are the only organization in any sport (that I can see thus far) to f*** up their staffing over it.
