Good low risk signing.

Do you think Lombardi would have tried to sign him (just to tie the ingoing discussion into the topic)?

He brought back Purcell so anything's possible. But no I don't think he would've signed Cammy.

No harm, no foul with this signing.

Does it matter? He's gone, and beating his mistakes to death has already been done 100x. :boredom: Not directing that at you, just amazes me people don't get tired of *****ing about the same things.

Is anyone actually excited for this season to start knowing its the same exact lifeless team from last year?

The 2012, 2013, and 2014 playoffs were all very different from each other, with like 90% of the same roster each time. The 13-14, 14-15, 15-16, and 16-17 seasons were all different for different reasons, with basically the same rosters, or a lot of the same.

That's the big question for October. Will they be lifeless again? I'm interested to see how that gets answered. How does Kopitar come back from a career worst performance? What is Brown without Sutter? What is Gaborik? Who stole Jake Muzzin? Assuming Kopitar can find the net again, Toffoli can find the net again, Pearson at least keeps it going steady, Carter not having to carry the offense, Doughty plays well enough to get a monster contract, Muzzin remembers how to play the game of hockey, and Quick isn't out all year, there's enough to look forward to for next season.

I'm easy though, I look forward to the start of every year, makes no difference how good or bad they're supposed to be. It's hockey. Let hope spring eternal. If the team doesn't do anything, it's not like it's real life.

Carter is going to have to continue to carry the offense, if our only top 6 wingers (toffoli and Pearson) are going to stay on his line. We can not have another year of rolling some combination of King/Lewis/Brown/Gaborik with Kopi and expect that line to produce. I'm hopeful that Cammy can fill part of that void (which even if hes dissapointing he will still be an offensive upgrade over any of those 4 awful wingers we had with kopi last season) and a young player like Kempe or we sign another vet that can step in and help as well.

I think Jonny B. has a good, if not better, chance to succeed with Kopitar. Hopefully at least one of the two takes a step forward.

True, but there's not as much to discuss, and the signing/potential has been beaten to death.

So what little there is to discuss is a frame of reference to the recently ended regime.

Myself, I don't think DL would. Maybe he would have signed someone else. Not a criticism. Just a topic of discussion :)

Sometimes, if there's nothing to discuss, the best thing to do is SHUT UP. ;)

Same here.

Even through all of the terrible teams I've witnessed as a Kings fan, at the start of every season I'm always excited.

Kings still have 6.5 million in cap space, I refuse to believe Blake is going to enter next season only adding 10 goals to a non playoff team in drastic need of goals. Lucic still needs to be replaced, Purcell wasn't that guy and Cammy is not that guy. If you don't give Kopitar competent first line wingers he will struggle to put up points again this season.

Believe It!

It's funny that when asked what Blake should do, nobody can offer up any ideas that make any sense. They're not going to acquire an Evander Kane for Kyle Clifford. Did you guys expect Lombardi to turn the Kings into Cup champs within his first 2-3 years? He got off to a very rough start and it took four seasons with him as GM before this team had any respectability, and it happened shortly after drafting Doughty.

What expectations did you guys have for this summer? Ignore that Blake is GM, what did you expect and what would you have done? Sign Marleau and Thornton to contracts worth $6M to $8M? Sign Jagr or bring back Iginla?

It would seem wiser and more sensible to wait and see how things play out. For the first time in a long time, the prospect pool appears to be the deepest they've had in a good while. Ontario will also be considerably younger and not full of a bunch of journeymen.

Has Blake done anything bad already in your biased eyes?

He hasn't done anything bad. I just don't think he has really done anything, either.

I'm not giving him full credit for the prospect signings, the draft, or the TT/TP signings. These things, IMO, were already deep in the process when Blake got the job.

He can't start to be judged as a GM until we see the opening night roster. As it stands now, nothing much has changed. I understand the "what do you want him to do?" refrain but I've also been reading for months how "x,y and z" should be traded and the team is stale etc.

If Dean rolled with this team into next season, there would be hell to pay. When I read "Good work by Blake this off season", it is cause for pause.

Full disclosure, again, I didn't expect a big shake-up of the roster but I expected *something*. Don't think it is a stretch to believe that most of the posters here on Kings HF did not expect to run it back with the same team next season and expected some sort of outside help.

As a STH, man is it a bit frightening to be staring down the possibility of that bull **** from last season. DL and Sutter took the fall for this rosters on-ice failure. If these guys don't show more this season, blow it up. Can't keep firing the adults while the kids continue to eat their own boogers.

Given the pile of crap (and overpaid players) that was available in the open market, there were no realistic free agent options ever available to sign.

I expect the addition of a top six winger to play with Kopitar to come via trade. Not sure how many of you recall Dave Taylor's first summer as GM, but he did something similar where his biggest moves came by trade.

His most significant free agent signing was bringing back Garry Galley and signing the 34-year old defenseman to a 3-year contract, with the expectation of him to play a top 4 role along behind Blake and Norstrom.

His big moves came later that summer, towards the end of August. He brought back Luc Robitaille in exchange for Kevin Stevens, and a day later he acquired Jozef Stumpel.

Which is why I'm not judging or giving a grade yet because it is too early.

Will be disappointing to go in with the same roster for the most part.

As for Blake, I want him to succeed because it means the Kings do well. He's basically Donald Trump to me. I'm just obviously not going to give him a ton of slack if the organization appears to be directionless, but I can't determine that accurately until I see how this season plays out and the reaction to it.

Blake has very little in the way of marketable assets for a trade. Given the organization still thinks this roster is a contender, Blake is going to hold on to the players he should be trying to move while they still have value.

All he really has to offer is Martinez or Muzzin, and moving one of them leaves a hole on the blue line.

Yup, but still it's really all Blake has to work with if the play is to trade for something resembling a top six forward.

I still look at Edmonton with RNH possibly the 3rd line center and in need of a top 3 defensemen as a good trade partner. Adding a young, dynamic 2C who hasn't hit his prime and right in the ball park contract-wise is the best possible solution. Depth at center and the ability to move Carter to the top line wing fixes 2 problems at once. Maybe the Kings can thrown in some Jimmy Carson autographed memorabilia to get the trade done? Then have Cammy and Gaborik on the 3rd line and now you're talking goals aplenty.

Edmonton isn't in cap trouble for this coming season and also would never trade with a divisional rival.

Only when they can deliver a HHOF defenseman to the Ducks so they can win their only Cup.

Other than that, they won't trade with a division rival :sarcasm:

Wait, they were in the NW back then. Still, **** the Oilers for that trade.

Okay, what are you going to offer Edmonton to get them to send RNH our way?

I'd be willing to bet that if Cammy stays relatively healthy this season he'll pot 20+ goals.
