Cheap, and will make the Kings PP way better. Gives Forbort more sheltered minutes if he is #6/7, and Matt Greene gets played less, also steps in for Slava.

Win/Win all around, good signing.

Slava is not going to make the start of the season, that is a lofty expectation. He will most likely not be physical ready, or still suspended.

Ehrhoff also plays the Right side, big boost.

I know you aren't very high on Forbort, but I still think he'll be a solid bottom four defenseman. Question is though, will it be on the Kings?

Sorry I meant a McNabb in the top 6. Well, my Top 6, which means little since Matt Greene will be in there over him.

I think this signing is bad news for anyone who wanted to see McNabb playing and Forbort on the NHL roster.

McNabb was screwed over last season and Forbort looks like he will be in the AHL agan, this will be the 6th season since being drafted in the middle of the first round in 2010.

That's why it feels to me that something's gotta give at some point leading up to the season.

Doughty Muzzin McNabb Ehrhoff Martinez Greene...then possibly Voynov, McBain, Shcultz and Forbort all in a waiting pool. And that's also if no one kills it at camp. And I still feel like I'm missing someone there.

Maybe he's just not good enough, Herby. You ever consider that?

Camp will be highly competitive for that 5/6/7 spot on D, Like it should be.

No one, including Vets, should be handed anything, with that crap season the Kings just had.

Forbort and Shore both can be optioned to Ontario this season. I think Dean will use that option with Forbort early and often.

If Ehrhoff comes in and plays well, it may make Voynov or Martinez expendable. Some guys that make the big club out of camp will have to continue to play well to stay with the Kings during the season. That's a good thing.

Well I have been pretty bearish on Forbort for quite some time, but if the Kings don't feel like he is an NHL'er a full five years after taking him with a Top 15 pick he should have been moved this offseason. This is just not good asset management.

As for McNabb, I believe he absolutely showed he was an NHL'er with some upside. He started off last season terribly, then really turned it on and looked like he was turning a corner. Then the Kings went out and acquired Sekera and he was relegated to the press box while cement skates played and was a liability as usual.

I agree with all you said, provided that Greene is the one you are referring to as "cement skates."

I'm just shocked a free agent was willing to sign with the Kings. Weren't they all supposed to refuse on principle because of how the evil Lombardi wrongfully treated and terminated the perfect and innocent Richards?

Well, the NHLPA is going to go on strike if the Kings win in arbitration. This contract termination thing is a hill that all of the players are willing to die on after all.

If Ehrhoff wants to recover from an awful season he certainly came to the right place. This is a good value signing but he won't replace SV. All this talk about trading SV and AM makes no sense. The Kings need puck movers. If anyone should be traded it is Greene -- he is redundant. However, DL may get railroaded into dumping SV so this signing should help mitigate. Forbort will be a King and long term he will be a top 4.

Could be out of necessity if they get stuck with all $5.75M of Richards cap hit.

Nope, its suicidal. I would rather start trading forwards than lose another puckmover. Apparently everyone has forgotten how slow last year's D was.

Love the signing, love the Kings team, looking forward to Frozen Fury. Sutter needs depth to coach his style of hockey, Lombardi has given him that depth and now there is no need to worry about how the Voynov situation plays out with the NHL or if there is no suspension there is no need to rush him back from a serious injury.

I like this team as well, but I don't think their as good as the 2 cup winning teams.

McNabb is a young guy that loves to play physical. It would suck if he's the #7. He's proven himself enough for a regular bottom 2 spot at the very least IMO.

Until Voynov comes back, it's not an issue.

Muzzin - Doughty
Martinez - Ehrhoff
McNabb - Greene
McBain, Forbort

I wonder how McBain will perform with a full offseason of Kings conditioning and coaching? He showed a lot of promise early in his career. He wouldn't be the first player to have a career resurgence with the Kings. He honestly looked pretty good at times last season, especially offensively. If anything, confidence was his biggest issue.

He played like a second pairing D for last third of the season.

I have the opposite of lowered expectations.

Do you think Lombardi signs Ehrhoff just to have to turn around and lose someone else because he doesn't know what's going to happen with Richards? I don't see how he makes such a move. Especially if he doesn't know what's going to happen with Richards. That's not Lombardi. It's not like this is a desperation move. It's August 23rd.

Still people are talking about Martinez or Greene being expendable, dealt, etc. It's been a few years that such a sentiment has been talked about. Every time a new guy comes in. Well, Martinez is gone. Greene is old and slow, the new guy is replacing him. To this day, the only guy that played any sort of role on either Cup team and isn't a King anymore, that didn't leave as a free agent, is Richards. Even then, he didn't buy him out in the summer of 2014 when it would've been easy.

It might be easier to accept that Martinez and Greene aren't going anywhere until they do.

I'm not saying that because I want it to happen, just saying it's possible, don't jump my **** just because I am laying out a possibility. If the termination gets overturned we don't know if they will stick them with the whole $5.75M or just a standard 10 year buyout.
