I’ve never forgot him coming on to his sisters msn account and telling me he was a better hockey player than me after watching our team practice. He was 11 and I was 16. I guess he was right. Good replacement for Forbort.. for now.

love this

I like it, especially with Forbort out. But he shouldn't be skating next to Doughty. It's sort of an Alec Martinez situation--excellent in 2nd-3rd pairing roles, fish out of water in 1st. At least he's an excellent skater and teams won't just be able to pick on him by throwing a hand grenade puck at his feet.

Clague - Doughty
Martinez - Walker
Hutton - Ladue
Mac

Holy shit our defense sucks

Low risk, medium reward. A bridge solution until Clague, Anderson etc. are ready. I'm ok with this.

The Forbort part makes the signing make some sense. Now they have 16 D under contract, with another 2 on AHL deals. With Forbort out, that's 15/2, which was the same as pre-Hutton, so that's still a lot of bodies. Ryan Stanton is supposed to be the veteran leader guy on D in Ontario, so that's one spot taken there. With Forbort out, that opened a spot on the Kings for a MacD or Brickley, but, whatever, either way.

It's pretty terrifying that the Kings had to sign another defenseman to replace the worst defenseman on the Kings. Must have no faith in the kids.

I would say it depends on which kids you're talking about. Is it the 24+ year olds, or the 21 and under crowd?

Maybe, but it’s also probably a good thing if the kids aren’t subjected to this nightmarish Kings team.

Ontario’s defense this season could be:

Clague - Strand
Bjornfot - Durzi
Brickley - Roy

Oh just wanted to add that Bernstein called this signing months ago for those who want to call him out on everything but not credit the things he gets right.
Good job Bernstein!!

nobody on LA's roster should be playing on a first pairing with Doughty

Hutton would be the only option at this point

I see our defense looking more like

Brickley/Clague doughty
Hutton / Martinez
Ryan / Roy walker strand

Ladue is probably going to get waived Same for Mac
i don't foresee clague making the opening night roster at all.. nothing personal just not really how this team operates, same goes for strand
walker and roy may have earned it but they're also waivers exempt so i could see one of them starting in ontario
brickley i don't think so
i'd like not to see ryan on our blue line but i imagine he gets a cup of coffee right off the bat
i imagine the sole reason for the hutton signing was to pair with doughty since no one else really can, but i'll be kinda salty and say i liked what i saw from macdermid/doughty for the maybe 5 minutes they played together

hutton-doughty
roy-martinez
walker-ryan
macdermid

i think is probably most likely (yikes)

i saw Brickley stand out as a player that really doesn't belong in the NHL. He would need to work extra hard to slide himself on that top pairing

Reality (asset protection mode)
Hutton-Doughty
Martinez-Roy
Ryan-LaDue
MacDermid
Forbort (inj)

Wildcard based upon performance so far
Anderson could beat out Ryan, Ryan could also force MacDermid to waivers and the Reign. Walker is still waiver exempt for 21 more NHL games.

Reign
Stanton-Walker
Brickley-Clague
Anderson (Gottleib)-Durzi
Phillips-Strand
Reddekopp (ECHL) Gottlieb (could win an AHL spot, especially if Anderson surprises to NHL level, Gottleib is a great skater, looked good late last season on the PTO)

Bjornfot (acquitted himself well so far, headed to the SHL under contract)
