$2 million is great. Not like the Kings have any in house replacements. And a free agent will be at least a million more. I know Kruger plays center but look at that cap hit vs Lewis'.

Lewis technically is a center

We have plenty of armchair GM's here. Consider he's been voted the unsung hero by his fellow teammates so many times. Think they might see and know something we don't.
As to how production being low. Have you looked at our top line players production? They barely get 20 goals and we expect a bottom 6 to even get 15?
This is a good deal.

Regular Season - .210 PPG, .083 GPG

Playoffs - .307 PPG, .147 GPG

$2M is fine, good even. We aren't going to replace his playoff production for any less than that. He and King have favorable contracts for what they bring.

The bottom 6 issues lie more with lack of a solid 2nd center. Shore, while cheap, hasn't cut it. Hopefully he or Dowd steps up and takes the spot.

As much fun as it is to rag on Lewis for all the golden chances he bones game in game out, this is a good deal for the Kings. Really surprised he didn't go to UFA. Here's to 4 more years of bricklaying.

Lewis - 2 million
King - 1.9 million
Clifford - 1.6 million

Let's say the Kings start the season with Brown-Kopitar-Gaborik and Pearson-Carter-Toffoli on the 2nd like then it's King-Shore-Lewis and Clifford-Dowd-Nolan on the 4th line. This is the exact same roster as last year and the year before. No room for Mersch.

Nothing wrong with making a rookie force someone out if he's good enough.

I think maybe Clifford goes as he and AA are the same player, but it saves them 1M on the cap. I'd also like to see Dowd/Mersch together as they are quite familiar with each other. There certainly will be competition for spots in camp, so hopefully some new blood gets in.

This is a player that put Kings first, money second. It's basically the opposite of Lucic. Naturally at that deal, DL was happy to give term.

Can't have enough of guys of this kind.

One guy drafted by LA and only played for LA, including both Cups.

The other guy was traded here and has no history with the team.

Comparing the two is ridiculous.

We really need better players than this in our bottom 6. Bee are a cap strapped team that cannot to spent 2nd and 3rd line prices on 4th line players.

We now have the following players being overpaid and underproducing offensively.

Dustin Brown
Trevor Lewis
Kyle Clifford
Matt Greene

Don't understand the need to re-sign him when we already have 9 bottom 6 guys.

People have a warped idea of what bottom six players actually produce.

Also Lewis is one of the fastest skaters, he also plays fast. Lewis is not the problem with the bottom six.

Great signing for the Kings.

Also very true.

But I do think people are seeing something different from lewis than many other bottom sixers and that's that he creates opportunities that he doesn't finish, haha. A lot of other bottom sixers don't even do that.

agreed. lots of people love to rag on him (which sometimes is deserved) but the dude is a Swiss army knife. hard to believe he signed for only 2M aav

I have no problem with a Lewis on the team, and the 2 mil is way better then the 3 that was rumoured.

My problem is before two hours ago our holes were at 3C, possibly 4C, 1LW, and 3D.

The only thing this signing did was to take 2 more million out of addressing those needs as he is just another bottom line winger.

For bottom line wingers (4 spots) we have Brown, King, Lewis, Clifford, Nolan, Andreoff, as well as rookies Dowd, Mersch, and even Kempe.

Our teams true ( as in effective) Centers are Kopitar, Carter, ...................... Shore. <- brutal depth.

This is my point as to why we should have saved the money.

For what ?

The Center market is pretty awful, no one in the AHL is ready(other than Dowd), Dowd/Shore are the Kings best bet at 3C.

You can't replace Lewis for under 2 million, if that was possible, it would have been done already.

Fun fact:Trevor Lewis has scored 1 point on the PP in his career and he did that last season. Talk about producing in your free agent year, cha ching!
