based on your conversations CNS how/where do the MAN coaches rate the D corp and what are their timetables on the existing guys currently? trying to get around this around a different way. perhaps Morris and his staff are telling Dean, Blake and Emerson that Gravel is a spare part at this point based on the other guys

Damcles is right, KG and his agent are hoping for either a deal with the Kings that works or that they can do better in August. I say believe it because it is true. But that is what I have heard also and what I hear typically comes to pass on these things. Not always, but typically so.

I wouldn't get too worried about this yet anyone. I remember the ruckus caused by Scott Parse signing an ATO with another AHL team (Grand Rapids) then didn't sign with LA until way after the draft in July. Kings hold his rights until August 15th. We'll see then.

There's a name I haven't heard in a while!

Spent 4 years with Dowd and has a chance to continue their careers together...showed loyalty to St. Cloud and stayed a fourth year...perhaps it's more his agent than Kevin himself?

I hope he knows how excited Kings fans have been to finally have him join the Kings family.

I'm curious on the gravel front here. Some people say he hasn't impressed the brass and the other people say he wants to test free agency.

If the kings brass was sour on him thinking he needed to earn a contract, why would they call him up as a black ace ?

Is this the recruitment trip to show him the kings culture and why he should sign?

Working relationships aren't binary. If you are still part of the organization, you still get all the benefits of being in the organization. That means getting all the development support, the tough love, and perks of being a Kings prospect.

If anything, him getting called up as a black ace helps from the Kings' perspective. Here's a taste of how it is to be on the Kings.

"You sure you don't want to follow the program? Because all your peers are doing it, and this is what they'll get when they graduate."

If you've ever managed a prima donna rock star employee (and we have lots of these guys in Silicon Valley that aren't as rock-star as they think they are), you know the drill. You can't bend the team needs around one guy. If they choose to be out of alignment, then you have to move on. But even better if you can convince them to get back in alignment.

I wonder what Eklunds deep rooted Intel has to say about this.

Gravel is the only player not with a contract of that group. I wonder if it's just speculation on their part to include him. Guess we'll see in the next few days.

Keep in mind that Sabourin did the same thing last year. It was very hush hush and he was practicing only with the Black Aces and not with the regular roster players, but he was indeed in LA for the playoffs and was part of the group of callups despite not having an NHL contract. He was definitely there but no one would really openly acknowledge it.

So with ELC's if Kevin is singed before the end of the season does it burn a year off his entry level contract? How does that work...

depends on the contract. at this point its a fair bet any contract signed will begin in 2014-15. but it's possible to sign a deal for 13-14 even after season (will pretty much never happen in any case) or during season sign contract starting the next year. however in that the player couldnt play in nhl that season, and would have to sign pto to play ahl.
