We are coming in peace from Winnipeg for the Jan 10 2015 Kings /jets game and the next night the for the game in Anaheim for Selanne's jersey retirement. We are staying at the Residence Hotel just down the street from the Staples center. my buddy and I are coming and was wondering what time does the pre game festivities start up before the Saturday night game and some good places to eat before the game and maybe a beer or 2 after the game. We arent into the fancy night club thing just a good sports bar or good everyday regular steak joint would suffice. Any info on what to do before and after a Kings game on a saturday night in DTLA would be great. Thanks

There us a giant bar and restaurant district right next to Staples
Are you looking for anything specific?

It all matters what is going down that night. Usually pre-game stuff outside of Staples starts about two hours before game time. Sometimes there is a lot of stuff going down and sometimes not so much. I don't know what is in store for that particular night but Saturday usually has some event scheduled.

As GBK said, there are a lot of sports bars and steak joints right across the street from Staples called "L.A. Live." See the link below. It should answer all your questions.

Also, a lot of this thread is devoted to eating places, including a number right around the area of Staples.

If you really want to nerd out, the Clippers host the Mavericks at 12:30pm that day. I try to set up a Staples Center doubleheader once a year for fun.

You could catch the basketball game, bar hop around LA Live, have an early dinner (Fleming's is nearby which is my usual go to), and then watch the hockey game at 7.

Clippers game sounds cool, however not much of a basketball fan so how much would tickets set us back for the game ?? Cheap ones !! Thanks for all the help in earlier threads.

About $50 for cheap tickets.

If you have never been to LA I would recommend seeing the city that day vs sitting in Staples watching a sport you don't care for.
Even in January, the beach is beautiful.

There are also some really good suggestions in this thread

Not too bad, under $100 will get you into the lower bowl, $60 is the face if you can get it. Upper bowl runs about $30 a piece.

I take the beach/California for granted, so it's probably better to check the scenery if you're not into basketball. Staples Center doubleheader can be fairly taxing since the first game is at noon.

I say park a union station around 10
See Olivera street and get lunch down the street at Phillipes
Take the red line to Hollywood and Highland. See the freaks, the Hollywood sign, the wake of fame and the cement feet
Take the red line back to (near) Staples/LALive and eat at a Mexican Place near there.
You are not allowed to leave SoCal without eating Mexican food.
Save steak night for the Ducks game. There are several places not to far. I am going to suggest " Prime Cut Cafe" it is on Katella and gets good reviews. Or pick someplace closer and maybe catch a shuttle to the game.

You can probably find super cheap ones on stubhub. Got tickets last year for like 10 dollars.

There is an El Cholo right by Staples. Their margaritas = about 3 beers (good times)
