Budaj really should be the first star of this game. If he wasn't sharp this team would've been trailing heading into the final 20 minutes.

Sure he's let in some questionable goals from time to time, but he's earned those minutes and I'm content with him in net the rest of the way. Just get Zatkoff off this team or glue him to the bench.

Doughty is the best thing ever to hapen to Jake Muzzin. Muzz being a CF expert and Drew being the CA expert is a match made in heaven and since both are two-way it makes for a beautiful pairing...when it works, lol.

Think a huge part of this possibility has been the rise of Forbort. He progressed to the point where he didn't need a Doughty "babysitting" anymore.

Yup, Budaj gave us a chance to win for sure, great game on his part.

Important to go .500 on that road trip after losing the first two as well, probably deserved the win at NYR and the loss tonight but that's how it goes. I'll take it.

Absolutely. There's a little bit of the Doughty effect on everyone and they all grow so much playing with him, best babysitter in the league AINEC ;)

But big props to Forbort for picking up the reigns and never looking back, he's grown immensely and quickly, looks like a lock there.

That's what happens when you get important saves. The Kings made mistakes, just like every other team does. Difference is, every mistake wasn't in their net. Budaj's best game of the season.

Well now. I believe that is our first winning streak in a while. Just in time for the break.

I don't know if it's due to coaches orders or if it's Doughty himself, but a player of his talents and skating ability should be more active and be given a longer leash to take chances (if available). He's too good to be held back.

Second time you've said this but watching Doughty this season he seems to be loafing all over the place and it's his own doing.

Member when he made Chris Pronger look like a pylon in his first NHL game?

I know it doesn't sound right, but Kopitar is on a point-per-game pace for the month of January. That's 11 points in 11 games, +4. Kopitar is everyone's current scapegoat, but maybe he shouldn't be.

The first couple of months were some of the worst hockey he's played, but he's been a lot better of late.

I believe something was also hampering him early on in the season, can't recall what the specific injury was but I do recall he was a game time decision in a couple of games in October.

Muzzin's also cut down on the bad turnovers away from Martinez and Martinez has looked better without Muzzin. Only took Sutter months to realize this.

He needs to play better for this team to win and finally he has been of late. If he was producing at this rate in the previous three months, the team likely would be in better standing.

Well that was a fun commute home! Listened on the radio as we somehow scored 3 to win it. Better than nervously listening at work when it was 0-0 all game.

I've had similar thoughts for years.

I don't like the way he's been handled. I think he's capable of much more. Both times he's played in the Olympics he's arguably been the best player in the entire tournament.

This isn't a popular opinion, but he hasn't played up to his potential here.

Last year there was an interview asking if the coaches would let him play Lenore open and he said it was his choice to focus on defense. Don't know how true that was but he has been asked.
