Kings Coach Darryl Sutter said Monday that injured winger Marian Gaborik is going to be out of action "long-term, for sure."

The Kings were in Washington but were off the ice Monday, a mandated recovery day, after they had played three games in the previous four days. They face the Capitals on Tuesday.

Gaborik was injured in the first period against the New York Rangers on Friday in a knee-on-knee collision. He was unable to put any weight on his left leg. The Kings placed him on injured reserve the next day but there was no additional update until Sutter responded, via email, on Monday night.

"Hope to get him back for the playoffs," Sutter said.

It is a tough loss for the Kings on multiple levels. Gaborik had been showing signs of regaining his scoring touch, and the team will miss his game-breaking ability and knack of creating something out of nothing.

Oh wow, so we're going to Patrick kane him after all!

(LTIR till playoffs, use cap relief to land Andrew Ladd, obviously) :sarcasm:

Not saying he will but Gaborik has a long history of injuries, if this is a serious as it sounds. What would happen if he decides to not longer subject his body to any more abuse and retire? He won his CUP and can retire with good health. Goodness knows a knee injury will affect his already slowing speed.

He won't retire with that much money due.

He'll LTIR for the duration.

Well this sucks. Would be nice to end up in a similar situation as the Hawks last year. But the problem is having to give up precious assets when we already need a top 4 dman.

Cap space!!!! Sell all the picks/prospects NOW!!!!

Hope DL doesn't go crazy like a kid in a candy store.

LTIR does not save cap space. It does not bank when LTIR is used. So basically if the Kings use Gaboriks LTIR money to acquire someone it means that Gaborik is done until at very least the playoffs start.

4th leading goal scorer at ES up to this point. Maybe a little much to say potentially a season defining injury, but it'll depend on what Pearson and King can do the rest of the way. Obviously Lombardi could add someone, but that bridge gets crossed later. The tough part is that Gaborik goes down with an injury, Pearson is coming back from his own leg injury, and then King also had an injury. Sort of jumbled right now.

said it before ill say it again - health is the biggest concern, as always

this team as constructed can beat anyone in a best of 7 if healthy, they just need to make it there in relatively one piece

Not sure what this is referring to but I assume it happened similiarly once with Patrick Kane?

Last year, Kane smoked his collarbone and got LTIR'ed until the playoffs, allowing the Hawks the salary cap space (via LTIR) to pick up Vermette, then suddenly Kane was fine for the playoffs and the Hawks were able to play over the cap.

Edit: though I don't know if they were actually over it when all was said and done due to prorations and such

pls wait. so this scenario is possible?

1. gabby is ltir'ed until the po.
2. lak finds another x player
3. they both, gabby & x, can play in the po?

basically how Chicago got vermette.
Watch LA will do the same and bring in say Vrbata. Everyone will say what Chicago did was shrewd and meanwhile LA is cheating the system

thx. gabby getting injured was bad, and there's no way to tell (for us) if he'll be ready for the playoffs, but if that scenario really happens, good for the kings, okee dokee. now, let's go shopping, nhl shopping is such a wobbly feeling, onomatopoetic to the sound of an object moving past you at an accelerated pace. who should we buy?

I remember stating LA needed to look at adding scoring depth and was shot down by claims that Tanner Pearson, Dwight King and Dustin Brown would be enough to keep the offense ticking.

Here's hoping LA can make a pitch to get Eric Staal.

yep

just remember, anything the Kings do is illegal and scummy, and the Hawks are the class of the league

storyline for Kane was "miraculous comeback" and storyline for Gaborik will be "conveniently timed injury nets Kings huge playoff coup in deadline deal"

Don't know what assets it would take but Loui Eriksson would be a nice add.

Lots of talk that he could be dealt at the deadline.

Has had a nice season
