I don't see any headlines about him being fired.

Man, poor guy, if only he had some control over that outcome

Dude just loaded the gun and shot himself in the head lol, with '100% buy in from the players' and admitting you should have won, this is pointing at yourself without taking accountability. What a dumbass AND a chickenshit.

GTFO.

I've never seen more inept coaching. The last time I saw any team play a serious competition with 3 lines was Slovakia's national team back in the late 1990s. Peter Šťastný was the TV color announcer back then, and he kept lamenting: "We're not gonna win anything if we only roll 3 lines!" And he was talking about the damn World Championships which is something like 10 games max, not the Stanley Cup playoffs that may extend to 28 games. I kept thinking of Šťastný's oracle while watching Hiller's antics over the last couple of weeks.

(Šťastný then became Slovakia's GM at the turn of the centuries, he insisted on rolling all 4 lines, and a bevy of medals, including gold in 2002 – the only gold so far, was the result, thanks to teams centered around Šatan, Pálffy, Višňovský, and Bondra. That's without players like Hossa, Gáborík, Demitra, or Chára, who were typically not available due to the Stanley Cup playoffs. Even so, Šťastný insisted that Slovakia was good enough to roll full 4 lines, even if partially composed from euroleagues players, because trusting all 4 of your lines is the only pathway to success.)

Kings fans that have only been fans for maybe 10 years probably had that feeling that the Kings were in serious trouble when Hiller decided to challenge, never mind when Edmonton scored 10 seconds into the ensuing power play.

When you've got 30 years under your belt, it felt like such a rug pull. There is no excuse for it. Saw the series win vanishing before my eyes. Slow motion car wreck of a sequence.

I still have a hard time believing that the decision to basically roll with 9 forwards and 4 defenseman for 5 games was Hiller acting independently.

It has BLuc’s fingerprints all over it. There is a long history of completely irrational decisions across all areas of the organization.

But even if isn’t at fault for that, the challenge itself is grounds for firing.
