The whole team was complete garage tonight and lost to a garbage team.

They also need to stop trying to run the 6 on 5 through Wheeler on the halfwall. There are way too many people on ice during a 6 on 5 to get a cross seamer through that can be onetimed and it also makes it very easy for the other team to overload on Wheeler's side. In the past they have had a lot of success running it through the points, they should go back to that scheme.

Amazing how a top three team in the league needs luck to win against the leagues worst lol.

In a sample size of one game, whichever team won got lucky. To what degree, depends on skill level and expected chance of winning. But that's not the point.

Using your layman's definition of luck and not the mathematical definition: it's not that the Jets needed to get lucky. LA needed to get good luck, we needed to not get bad luck. Yes, a top 3 team in the league NEEDS to not get bad luck to beat a bottom feeding team. Ask Nashville about that.

Helle needs to be sat for a couple games still. Unfortunate we all know that'll never happen because of that ludicrous contract.

Hellebuyck played better this game than he did against TB.

seemed like no puck luck during the moments jets played good and the rest the Jets played not good.Really good defence at times from the Kings - notice they found a way to disrupt A LOT of what Jets were trying to do at the right times as well to kill momentum.

I'm getting more familiar with the idea that the Jets are actually good and that by playing as many games as they have been that this is inevitable. Based on last 5 and out of town scoreboard this wasn't really a must win game.

Hopefully they got all the suck out of them tonight so can have a good win on Thursday.

For some reason the Jets don't perform well in LA. The Kings aren't the better team so there's no reason the Jets should have lost this one. Anyway, time to move on from this game and get ready for the next one.

Apparently it's just all luck, that's all.

Just want to put it out there, but top teams do lose to bottom teams about 35% of the time in the NHL.

Not to excuse anything, but saying no reason ignores that 35% is >>>>> than 0%.

  • Could Hellebuyck have had one or two more saves to keep the Jets in the game? Sure, but it's hard to completely fault him for every goal against tonight based on 1) completely flukey bounce, 2) missed assignment on Doughty sneaking in from the blueline, and 3) a clean breakaway from the blueline. More importantly, our esteemed offense put up one (read: 1) goal against Quick and the Kings, and couldn't get it past Doughty covering for the very active quick and seemingly lost every puck battle along the boards and couldn't make a clean pass to the centre of the ice if their life depended on it. Many here want to rush to point out the last man to beat (Hellebuyck), but it's not like he's getting any help this year in comparison to last. It's like we're missing one or two pieces last year that were known for the defensive abilities...
  • Garret is quick to point out that the xG on the blocked open net shots by Doughty are technically recorded as... 0 xG. This is a fault of the NHL's Play-by-Play data and until people smarter than myself get access to more valuable data, some of the data will be skewed by the fact.
  • Some things we can say - Myers had a gaffe in going below the faceoff dot on a shot from the top of the opposite faceoff circle, but Perreault had a bigger one in not covering the breakaway well at all. Other than that, both the line and the pairing had a strong game but other than Perreault's tip, they couldn't score any more goals.
  • Chiarot-Byfuglien had a really rough game against pretty weak competition. This is where I'm the most worried because this is now a trend for this pairing.
Chief's final eyetest says: a standard ice hockey puck is black, 1 inch (25 mm) thick, 3 inches (76 mm) in diameter, and weighs between 5.5 and 6 ounces (156 and 170 g) - small, but not small enough to get past Quick/Doughty and bounced the wrong way tonight. Jets need to remember that weird quote: "Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard." Murat also points out that this is probably the toughest part of the schedule, rest-wise:

I have given up on Petan getting back into the lineup barring several injuries. It sucks but it is what it is now, Maurice seems to have his mind made up. The best we can hope for is Copp coming back and Mo putting him in the lineup at the expense of Lemieux (which is not a given as I think there's a good chance that Appleton sits when Copp is healthy).

Ok, cooled down from GDT, now.

Coach: I beg you please either to put 29 with 55, or to explain to us why you won’t. 26 does not look like top line material. 29 does.

This is not a hot take - this request isn’t based on this latest game (in which both deserved to ride the pine, IMO). It comes from observation and analysis of every Jets game this year and last. I observe a marked deterioration in 26’s speed, shot quality, puck-handling in traffic, and reflexive decision-making.

Sure, 29 has his weaknesses - glaring ones - but gawd, he has his strengths. He’s an elite shooter and playmaker. He’s who many of us come to see.

Sure, 26 has his strengths - sparkling ones - but in the end, he’s not finishing plays off like he used to. That a hard thing to dismiss. Reuniting 26 with 18 may spark some old chemistry, & jump-start each other’s game.

Don’t care if it’s 27 or 81 on the other side of 55 - you pick. They seem to be taking turns this year: one looks phenomenal while the other looks lost, then they switch.

Let's give credit where it's due - LA played great, and they wanted this game a lot more than we did. The same way we wanted the Tampa game a little more than they did. Also Jonathon Quick was very sharp in the LA net, and he is a 2 time Stanley Cup winning Goaltender, and when he's on his game, he can be really tough to beat.

The Kings were fast tonight and keeping up with the Jets --reminded me of the old LA Kings that won a couple of cups, with a lot of the same veteran guys still on the team there. Give them credit.

For the Jets -- Nik Ehlers really stood out for me. I think he hit the post, and was buzzing around the LA net all night. Ehler's is really coming to life now, and starting to control the play.

Connor--hasn't scored in 4 games -- needs to get his scoring touch back -"he will."

On Laine -- why is he trying to stickhandle thru the LA defense ?? He just loses the puck, and wastes an offensive zone entry. He needs to learn to stop upon entry, or skate around the net, and pass the puck off to an open player.

Helle--still looks very shaky out there to me --I'd like to see Brossoit start the next game.

The Jet's didn't play with the speed and firery intensity they usually do, and were beaten by the better team tonight--so give LA credit, for a great effort.
