Salary Cap: Kings Capology

McNabb is going to develop into a top 4 Dman. He is going to make a few more mistakes next season, but I don't think he is going to be worse than Matt Greene or even Martinez.

I've been following this closely, because I wanted him back. Lombardi said about 2 weeks ago that they had counter-offered Sekera at that time and that the deal "was still on the table."

That would indicate to me that whatever the Kings had counter-offered at that time was lower than what Sekera had offered. And it had never been responded to.

This has been going on since mid-April. I don't think there have been any surprises between the two parties since that time, myself.
 
Honestly Sekera would be doing himself no favors by not at least seeing whats out their July 1st.

Sekera is easily the best Defender on the market. Sekera is 29 years of age, this is probably his last contract. His agent no doubt advised him against signing with the Kings before July 1st.

Deals drag out, you finally reach an impasse, Lombardi went to one of his other boards on how to build the team for next year. Will see what Sekera gets, if it is 5 million or less I will say WTF, if it is north of 5.5 or 6 million, it is understandable Dean went to an alternative plan.

Probably. So, does Sekera only care about getting paid, or does he want to win a cup, and sacrifice some $$$.

I haven't closed the door on Sekera just yet. Deano knows what he has in Sekera.

I liked what I saw in McNabb's game, esp his confidence and it's a hard job to learn, most good d take years to full develop. He'll have his growing pains but he'll do fine. And I'm not sure it's possible to be worse than Greene, he's been awful for the last 2 years.

He interviewed with several teams this past week and I'm sure his intention is to sign a good deal (he doesn't need to sacrifice $$$) with a team that can win the cup. It's an LTC, that's a lot of years and he can do both, there's no guarantee he'll win one in LA just because you want him to stay.

I understand. However, a "good deal" doesn't just mean the biggest contract.

All I'm saying is, if I'm Sekera, I would balance the money with the best chance of winning the cup. And since we've added Lucic, Sekera has to know that the kings will be one of the favorites next season to win the cup.
 
One would think we are in a n interesting situation...
Voynov is a true 3 outcome player at the moment...Trade, Void, or reinstatement onto the team...
the first 2 offer us more than $4 million in cap space, the latter would require we make a move say a Clifford or Nolan just to get under the cap...
Trade idea, if we could swap Voynov (if Cleared) and Richards to the Coyotes for cap relief and say 2-2nd rounders??? would that be enough to re-sign Sekera without compromising future signings??

I think he is going to consider , as most players in that position would, his best options. And the Kings aren't the only team over the next 7 years that are going to be favorites to win a cup.
Maybe he wants to sign with a young team that is on the rise, that over the next 7 years would have more years of contention.
The fact that he's not moved from his 6M per on an LTC since Jthe season started is where he feels he wants to be.
DL seems to have moved on already by his comments.
 
ANd Sekera COULD very well want to sign here, he's just smart to use 'what's out there' as additional leverage. For example, help me understand why I would want to sign with the Kings and be a second pairing dman when I could sign with the Avs for much more and be on the first pairing of an up and coming team? The "value" of the contract we're offering has to make up the difference in salary offered. I'm sure Colorado could offer him 6.5-7 a year. If we're only offering 4.5-5.5...well, you know the rest.
 
Sekera was getting paid peanuts by NHL standards for a guy of his talent, he deserves to cash in and get all the money he can.

Not quite accurate. Lombardi told Sekera he wouldn't be resigned before July 1, and he will become a UFA. He can still negotiate with the Kings after that. Who knows? Maybe he will come to his senses and sign here for a little bit less than he can get elsewhere, but I doubt it. Some idiot GM will give him what he wants, a big retirement contract payday.

I mean I guess anything could happen but that sounds pretty definitive to me.
