Pretty cool how they lit up Staples tonight. Imagine how great it will look during the playoffs.

And no matter what opinion anyone has on Scuderi's play at any point, it's so, so amazing to see a player come BACK to LA and be just so super stoked and reverent of his history and time with the club. I can only imagine what it will be like 20 years from now doing a Kopi night or something, because I was watering up seeing how obviously moved Scuderi was, especially as he's usually totally stone-faced.

And from his post-game quotes, man, maybe he's just what the team needed. Still so uber-confident in the group, maybe that leadership will pay off for the younger d-men (so it's not JUST Drew, probably hard to give advice on the bench when you're never ****ing there).

I thought Scuderi looked pretty good. 19 minutes of ice time.

It was cool seeing him and Doughty playing together again. Doughty played the best hockey of his career when paired with Scuderi.

I disagree. Doughty is at a whole different level now as in he's even better.

God damn sketchy as **** right there though. Only got Jersy on it, went through, but changed angle enough to stay out. Luck.

Still a good night and good save for Ehrhoff. You gotta be good to be lucky.

I thought Hunter had a strong second period.

we're taking this for granted. it feels like any normal day... but the domination he dishes out is outstanding especially living with non-la fans. nice to see that the kings have 2 real studs in 6 and 8 regardless of who they are paired with but I think the kings have the real great 8 in the league.

I think the thing that people around the league are missing when they aren't impressed with Doughty is how relatively unimpressive-to-bad the rest of our defense is. When Doughty has a bad night and Muzzin has a good night the gap is closer, but when Doughty is on, and he's been on a LOT more this year than in years past (his consistency is remarkable this year), he is friggin absolutely head and shoulders the reason our defense works at all. Muzzin is a fantastic #2 and though Martinez has tailed off a bit he's still a nails 2nd pairing d-man...but after that, its all questionable. I love Schenn more than most but he's not reliable like those three, same with Mcnabb...these guys all have flashes and short periods of brilliance, Muzzin and Martinez are great because they're mostly very consistent, and Drew is just so far better than even Muzzin or Martinez on all sides of the puck that it's mind-boggling. And really, that's it for me--there is no better option in ANY situation than Drew Doughty. You can pick up Scuderi and Schenn and Greene for the PK but it's still the best option to throw Drew out there for 30 minutes.

Edit: speaking of, THATS nice to see:

More ice time than Scuds has gotten in a game since november.

Just can't believe we got Scuds back and he bangs out 19 minutes his first night, gets DD under 30 minutes of ice time and he's logging PK time like he never left. Can't believe Chicago just gave him back to us and is paying a chunk of his salary too. I know it's one game but he fits our style of play.

System Defenseman *****es.

"it might seem like a bit of a nostalgia move at first glance, but re-acquired Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi is out to show he still can help out on the blue line.

“I've never been a guy that's going to rack up points and make a flashy play,” Scuderi said after Saturday's morning skate, a few hours before the Kings beat Buffalo, 2-0, for their fourth straight victory, led by Tanner Pearson's two goals.

Scuderi earlier had assessed his worth in blunt terms. “I think I'm still a good penalty-killer and can provide good role-player fundamentals at this level,” he said.

The Kings didn't waste much time inserting him into the fray. He was on the second penalty-killing unit as early as the first period, and Scuderi logged 19-plus minutes of ice time against the Sabres.

He was utilized in key moments late in the game, a major sign of trust".

People shouldn't be surprised that Scuderi can fit right in considering he's played with half the roster before and in the same system.

Awesome to hear Scuderi had a good game, that is really good news. How did the defensive pairings look?

Anybody else share the observation of Jack Eichel that he just needs to calm down out there and could be amazing? He's so fast and has a ripper but he flails around and dives and just looks like he's trying way too hard. He will be the real deal if and when he sorts this out.

I was at the game last night and kept a very close eye on Scuderi. His first shift was his shakiest of the night. After that he was very solid positionally and with the puck. He was paired mostly with Martinez but was also out there with Doughty some and Schenn on the PK.

I don't expect miracles out of him. But last time he was here, he was forced to carry the shutdown load with Mitchell and Greene missing for the entire season. He will not be asked to do that this time. We will see if he can hold up, but it was a promising start at least. That he could come in and PK for 2 minutes right off the bat is a big bonus for the rest of the guys.

I saw him skate his last season with the Kings and really wasn't sad when he left. He looked fine tonight against a bottom dwelling team with injuries. We get to see how he looks against the Mighty Ducks tomorrow.

Edit: It bothered me how often Scuderi wouldn't tie up his guy in front of the net and swing away at pucks.

I wouldn't be surprised if the plan was to cut Dewey's minutes in a game like last night, but he goes right back to playing 30-32 tonight if the situation warrants it, if they can cut it to 27 against lesser opponents, that is still invaluable.
