Kings apologize for selling Turkish-made scarves on Armenian Night

Hazards of a global economy.

Wasn’t there a huge holocaust memorial built in Europe that was basically finished by the time someone pointed out the stone was treated with some compound made by the manufacturers of Zyklon-B

There are what like 188 countries they could have sourced these from without causing an issue? Comically incompetent as is the norm for this organization post-Lombardi.

Did Brandt Clarke not even look at the country of origin before he pulled the trigger on these whilst sitting in the press box?

A lot of people don't realize LA is a HUGE Armenian community, so this isn't just some random one-off night, either.

We def didn't need more evidence of the incompetence and lack of due diligence of the front office

It's probably Clarke's fault though, I bet Blake was like "I ordered oat milk in my latte, not piss"

Exactly this.

I don’t imagine many - if any - of the posters who are complaining about this had any knowledge of the history of Armenian-Turkish conflict prior to reading this thread. Very likely the same as the low level LA Kings employee who made the purchasing decision.

But finding things to be indignant about recently pulled ahead of baseball as America’s #1 pastime…..

Yikes - that's brutal. Somebody could potentially lose their job over this. The Armenian community is a big deal in LA.

It was an inside job to punish him for his betrayal

I understand there's a history of struggle and prejudice but if you hold it forever, it will do you no good and investing in those old bitter issues in the new country and lifestyle you're a part of now only serves to hurt, not harm. The Turkish people now are not the ones who have done the Armenian-Americans harm.

It's a nice sentiment, but it's not like the hostility is only about the 1915 genocide. Azerbaijan has been warring with Armenia over the Armenian-majority Nagorno-Karabakh region, and Turkey is their biggest booster, providing them with active military help. The war has led 100 000 ethnic Armenians to flee the region, fearing a genocide. That was only a year and a half ago. Armenia and Turkey are still essentially geopolitical enemies.

That scarf blunder isn't the end of the world. But it makes the whole gesture seem empty and superficial (which, realistically, it is).

You don't think anyone here had any knowledge of the Armenian genocide before coming to read or post in this thread? That's a wild claim, and it shows you have a pretty low opinion of the intelligence of your fellow posters on this site. If you didn't know about it, that's fine. Use the opportunity to do some reading and educate yourself. But don't put that on everyone else.

This is such an easy thing to not f*** up but this organization simply refuses to stop taking L's at every turn.

Jesus. That is quite the f*** up. Someone didnt even do a LITTLE research before?

The kings front office is so incompetent it’s not even funny. You cant make this shit up

Do y’all genuinely think this is a case of organizational incompetence?

It’s not like the Kings org went out and found this company. They operate off the NHL’s list of partners. Why would anyone say to themselves, “but wait… what if the company’s TURKISH??” before submitting the order?

For all I know, every bobblehead I’ve ever received from an NHL team was made by Al Qaeda. I’ve never looked into it because… why would anyone look into it?

Yikes! Look, I get it that this is an NHL sourced manufacturer, but this is not the thing you want to f*** up given that LA has like something on the order of half a million Armenians ( seriously nicely done kings). Not a community you wanna piss off given their influence in the city lol.

This isn’t like if a German manufacturer made some recognition scarves for the Jews. Turkey is about as bad at recognizing their historical failings/revisionism as the Japanese - maybe even worse. And it’s not like things have gotten better over the past century

If the bobble heads were just part of a generic “1000 games for X player” night who cares, if they were specifically a commemorative 9/11 bobble head it’s probably an issue

Of course, but how would you know? Someone would have to actually go looking for that information, when all they’re actually doing is placing a work order with a supplier.

While it is no one's job to check a thing like this, you would think somewhere in the logistics chain there would be at least one individual who spots a thing like this and raises the issue. The fact that this went unspotted or was dismissed shows how superficial the event is, just like someone said in this thread already.

I think deep down everyone knows these events are there to simply make more money but this crushes the "maybe they do actually care" illusion that would be desired.

I can't believe that someone organized an Armenian night then went to Turkey to buy scarves!

Oh wait, what really happened is that the one person in charge of Armenian night had zero knowledge of and/or any responsibility for ordering product that gets sold throughout the year.

Someone looked at the "made in" label and decided to be outraged against random people. Way to go!!

I'm guessing whatever entry level employee ordered these is not a history scholar / someone who knows much of a thing outside their bubble.
