It concerns me that this trade is made because they don’t expect to sign our new guy. Next season we go with Cal/Copley; with Portillo top guy in Ontario.
I hope not.
Dude please stop being negative. Copley/Korpisalo next season. Korpisalo knows he's being given a shot at the #1 job for a playoff team. He's not gonna get much better opportunity with another team like that. Korpisalo is playing to prove something to himself and the Kings, that he was worth trading for.

I do think it’s time for the Kings to re-evaluate their relationship with Ranford. Whatever pixie dust he had back then has sure run out.

Kings need to buy out Petersen if they can.

If/when he extends with the Kings, then I’ll celebrate him as our goalie beyond this year. But for now, he’s a pending UFA. So it’s 2-4 months and that’s it. Awesome for this year. I’m super excited to see him in goal for us and the potential impact he gives us. But that’s it for now.

I’m not counting any chickens until they are hatched. It’s not negative- it’s just a fact.

Well, Portillo is technically not even in the pipeline yet.

Sign the contract he still must.

If Blake hasn't talked to him yet, :help:
You have an exciting team with a bright future that shows they value you and spend a third in very good draft to acquire you.
The franchise has a legendary goalie coach/ manager Bill Ranford at the helm.
He and his underlings have a noteworthy history, including developing two time Stanley cup and Conn smythe winner Jonathan Quick.
They also have helped a half dozen other goalies improve their games tangibly.
They hit hard times suddenly this season as Quick who was very good in the playoffs last season suddenly suffered a huge loss in form.
Compounding the matter, his heir apparent Cal P. also suffered a huge lapse in his development into their planned number one netminder, and ended up with a vote of no confidence in the minor leagues.
Their third string goalie ascended from the AHL to become the number one goalie and is signed for one more year.
With a good showing in the AHL while working with Ranfords coaches, the doorway to take Coley's spot, behind the newly acquired Korpisalo (assuming he signs)is wide open in 24/25.
And should Korpi not resign he could even have a better shot at starter.

No reason why Portillo does not sign with Kings and thank his lucky stars
Again not irrelevant. You already anointed this guy our “legit goalie prospect” and “starter in a year or two” which is exactly what people said about Bernier. This also how we ended up in this place currently prematurely evacuating all over ourselves over one decent season of backup Cal Petersen and now stuck with 10 million worth of AHL failure.

Having one guy is a start but it’s not the solution.

If you can’t see the folly in that, I don’t know what to tell you.
Goaltending moves are strictly prohibited and repeatedly pooh poohed by regulars here.
We saw this with Copley and he is now 18-4 , saving the season and allowing Blake to springboard for moves that will likely lead to resurrecting a goalie pipeline , while also opening the window to a potential cup run wider and wider, with veterans combined with a potential future core of young players.

Oww owww wooo!

I think it is a mental health issue at this point.
Just skewing everything against Blake
then Copley
then Korpi
and now EP.
I hope he gets the help he needs to be happy again.

I hear you. Im concerned they sign a goalie without a starters resume (most starts is 37 in 19/20) and just have a few months to make an evaluation (echoes of Cal in my head). He did have a nice playoff run that year and an impressive save pct. Sometimes that can be attributed to team defense. Happy to have him now, but leery about extending him as a starter. Better to build a goalie pipeline with guys competing for the #3,#2,#1 over the years and learn their strengths and weaknesses.. Doing shit at the deadline and piecemeal is asking for trouble.

I like this guys attitude - he has fire.. didnt think he was a swede with that last name - like zucarello another swede - guess some Italians like the cold.

Cool pick up. I like a pipeline of goalies. Remember Quick came out of nowhere really and was way on the bottom as we were burning through goalies and then it was like ....oh this one can play. The rest is history.
I remember prior to Quick, we couldn’t win a shootout…the he gets called up and we couldn’t lose one.

Looks like an outstanding deal for a position of great need.
With as good as ranford is in developing goaltenders, hope he has some say in drafting goalie prospects

I think whatever fairy dust ranford had back then is out of stock. The goalies have not looked good.
