I'm guessing that if/when one of Mitchell or Greene return, the Kings will have to move Muzzin or risk losing him on waivers.

Judging from his play this season, I'm not convinced that any club would be very interested in having Muzzin in its everyday lineup.

I don't think Muzzin would get Claimed ether. His play wasn't exactly great.

He also doesn't use that tremendous size he has. That is like the kiss of the death for D men like him.

But Keaton... Keaton is the real prize to them, for obvious reasons.

It was all Keaton! I didn't know! I saw him die!

Then it turns out it wasn't really a trade for Ellerby, but it's really Mitchell coming back from injury, just with a different number and physical look.

****, they gave him #5

I fail to see why this organization tip-toes around Rob Blake everytime they issue a number to a defenseman. Luc must be involved in that somehow. Blake does not deserve to have his number held in any reverence.

Well then. I like this deal. That atrocity called Whiskey-Muzzin is broken up.

I'd sorta like to see:

DD-Ellerby
Slava-Scuds
AMart-Whiskey

I am open to breaking up Scuds/Drew as well. Scuds/Drew are just playing way too many minutes.

It's starting to show. People forget that Mitchell plays about 23 to 25 minutes a night.

Greene about 14 to 17. That is a lot of minutes to replace.

They should. It would be a great statement for the franchise to make and show that the past way of thinking and that culture no longer has a place in the Kings' organization.

Yeah, not really sure what the fascination is with not giving out #4. Blake was a good defenseman but there's no way that number should be retired.

It might be (I'd even guess it's "likely") that the players themselves are declining to take the number out of respect for Blake.

All that matters is he has it where it counts, which sounds like he is a good skater, can use his size when needed, has long reach and will look for the hit, as well as stands up for teammates, and has a good locker room personality.

Agree.

This is very similar to when the flyers got Mezaros in 2010. He came from TB where he'd been (according to the press there) a disappointment. New Team, change of scenery, and the following year was the Flyers best Dman and remains so (sorely missed this year 2 injuries)

Ellerby might turn out to be a good fit for a team that is missing their tough Dmen.

It's a great calculated Gamble by Lombardi.

It's basically trading Loki for Ellerby. Based on the situation at hand(injuries,no room for Loki), you make that trade every time.

That's just it. This organization should not hold Blake in that high regard. Just assign the #4 and be done with it.

Back on topic. Ellerby looks like a good pickup. Maybe we can get back to a little more of the pairing being a stay-at-home with a puck mover. Sounds from the Florida fans like Ellerby has a decent first pass, so that will help as well.

Doughty - Scuderi
Voynov - Ellerby
Martinez - Drewiske

Seems like a good deal for LA in terms of value. Ellerby is probably a serviceable bottom pairing guy at this point.

Sometimes a change of scenery can do a world of good for a player. We'll see.

Aside from what I've read in here, I'm not too familiar with Ellerby. But I like how Dean used the Lokti pick to get him.

But look at why players might hold Blake in high regard, in that maybe they don't want to take the number. He thought he was worth more than a team was willing to pay, so he waited, got traded to a contender, beat the team that wasn't willing to pay him what he wanted and traded him, won a Cup, and then got paid more than what the previous team was willing to pay. That makes everyone's salary go up.

From a strictly PA point of view, Blake has to be a poster boy.

That, or the Kings plan on retiring the number, or just don't want to give it out.

The criticism of Ellerby lacking hockey IQ isn't too different from what we were hearing about Greene when the Kings acquired him. And he was older. Hopefully the trade pans out the same way.

Back when he was traded to Colorado, Leiweke told Blake that his number would be retired someday. (No, I don't have a link.) It's been in the plans for a long time.

That is quite true. In fact, most Oilers fans hated Matt Greene and considered him to be a pylon.

Would love for this guy to pull a Quincey, have a great year and then be used as trade bait.

I think if he pans out, being an RFA Kings keep him.

We could lose Scuderi next year, and I am not sure there is a guy in the pipeline to replace him.

There isn't. Some people around here were thinking that Jake Muzzin would be that player, but sadly, that isn't happening. Muzzin will never be the player that Scuderi is.

Are you sure your not thinking Exelby? There was a time people here talking about Garnet Exelby.

Are you disputing the fact that random King fans study Florida Panthers AHL games and know exactly who Keaton Ellerby is? 99% of the people responding have never seen him play and I can proudly say I'm part of the 99%.
