Great skill set at 6'7", but his skating is awful. Like, some of the worst I've ever seen.
 
Reminds me of another Michael Shumacher mold.

Project, Would have liked to take this type of player later.

Like the 6th or 7th round.
 
Looks very raw but there is some skill and vision there. Doesn't seem very physical unfortunately (giving OR taking hits). Seems to stop moving his feet when he has the puck which is troublesome. But I think with some pro coaching he could go a long way.

Like Leslie, Auger was passed over in last year's draft but a 16-goal season last season might have at least raised an eyebrow or two among scouts. But Auger's reluctance to use his size to his full advantage leaves everybody a little mystified.

Prediction: Someone takes a gamble in the seventh round.

Kings always have a knack for picking up failed good prospects
 
lets not forget EBERT as well.

that goal with 14 seconds left was a thing of beauty, not only was it clutch but it was damn pretty.

nitpicky thought: don't like his SAVIOR pose when he scores goals...

Yup. It's kind of a trend that you're seeing in the kings drafting. We have very good coaches and then management looks for prospects that have high ceilings but aren't doing good, and then hoping they can straighten them out to being full potential. It's like low risk high reward.

i always bring that up when people throw that out there to put some player down. it's like putting duct tape over their mouth, because they have no rebuttal. if Luc isn't enough then you can go to Dave Andreychuk as reference #2, another guy that wasn't the greatest skater. between the two of them you've got two of the most prolific scorers in league history and both were always knocked as "poor skaters"

Here's my rebuttal--for everyone one of those guys, there's 10 that fail. For every martin st. louis, there's 10 little guys that can't hack it.

Not that I wholly disagree with you--I know the first round picks are "5-tool players" so to speak, and that players that fall usually have a weakness or two (for example, skating). I would never say don't draft someone based solely on skating if they have everyone else. Just saying you don't want to have to cite the Luc Clause for too many picks :P
 
skating is one thing that can be improved at this point in a player's career. it can be changed dramatically with skating and also strength conditioning. something like personal drive, hockey IQ, "hands", etc once a kid reaches this point is largely set in place.

any kid that gets to this point in the hockey world can outskate 95%+ of people out there, so it's not like they can't skate. it comes down primarily to small subtle problems that are causing the problem in comparison to their peers.

look at someone like B Boyle that was well documented as being a poor skater. he worked a few years back with some coaches and he is more than serviceable at the NHL level. going back to Luc you can also draw on a skill he said he always worked on to compensate. that was his first step and short burst ability. he wasn't going to win a foot race, but he was going to win short battles to the puck.
 
This was the one pick that was a bit of a head-scratcher for me. Take a shot on this guy in the sixth or seventh round, not the fourth.
 
I remember watching Chara with the Prince George Cougars his skating was pretty bad, by no means am I saying he will turn out like Chara but its seems to me sometime these tall kids develop a bit slower while they grow into there body. Then again he can end up like Brian Boyle at least he wasn't drafted in the first round
