Post-Game Talk: Kings 2 - Jets 1 in OT

Second line needs to get going, Perfetti needs to pick up his game and Ehlers has to look where his teamates are before passing. LA is a good defensive team so you gotta give them some credit for playing well. Would have been nice to get 2 points but at least we got a point. Hopefully we have lots of goals saved up now for tonight. :naughty:
It’s beginning to look like Perfetans game is what it is, too good for the AHL but not good enough for the NHL!

Hello tweener Perfetan!

As a Perfetti fan and someone who thinks he's been playing fine - I am ready for him and Kupari to change spots to see what happens. 27/7/91 does not mix - we've seen this line for 2 years now and we know what it is. The fact that they keep running it is infuriating.

The thought that Perfetti has to play in the top 6 is overblown and he has rounded out his game and can handle different spots in the lineup. Let him play with Gus and Barron - two guys that will drive to the net, get on the forecheck and grind it out with him. Let Kupari and Ehlers try and find something with their speed, and have Kupari get in on the forecheck. Running back this "L2" over and over again is not going to solve anything.

Hello tweener Perfetan!
Just get him away from Ehlers. He looked good when Chibrikov was up there. Seems like they knew how to play in that line.

Now that Ehlers is back line is cold. But Ehlers is the bigger dog so no chance he gets demoted.

Put Perfetti out with a couple of guys who can dig like Kupari and Barron and he probably gets back on the scoresheet.

I think the kid bulked up to make it through the season. Not sure it helped his speed, but power forward isn't what Perfetti was drafted to be. And power forward does not describe Ehlers.

No power in that line. It's funny because I think Vegas and L.A. are similar in their design and structure, but the Vegas game Perfetti's line was good, scored...but someone was missing.

This whole situation with the suck homestead is all my fault. Right before this stretch, I made the comment that it looked like the Jets got their mojo back. What a stupid thing to say.

Now that that is out of the way, the Kings play the kind of hockey that can go deep in the post season. Damn they smother.
Glad you are back.

59 points so far are pointing to another stellar regular season but is this team built for the playoffs and a long run I think most would say probably not the way they are currently constructed.
I feel we need to get a few players that would allow us to play a heavier game, especially on D. LA controlled us too easily

I did like a lot of what the Jets did defensively in that game - but they have to find a way to attack more aggressively against this type of defense.

The biggest issue is that no one on the second line seems clutch - we're just not getting timely scoring from them. How long does Arniel trot out those three before he realizes they just don't work well together?
This is how the second line looks to me, Ehlers speed and talent but not the greatest hockey IQ and makes some very poor decisions with the puck. Perfetti has some talent and is a very smart hockey player but is a bit slow. Namesnikov is a smart good 4th line center, shouldn't be a second line center. I do think we either give Perfetti a shot at center and bring Chibby up to play with Perfetti and Ehlers or we trade for a good second line center.

None of those three are going but Perfetti is number one on my shit list.

I know Sip always makes the joke about Nic Petan, my comparable for him is Kyle Wellwood. Not terrible by any means, can play a somewhat well rounded game, but the ceiling is just too low to be a key player on a contending team. You can only do so much as a small, sluggish playmaker.

Package him with another asset or draft pick and see if we can get a true upgrade on the second line. Maybe he blossoms elsewhere, but that’s a risk I’d be willing to take.

That was a poopy game. Fri or Sat night stinkers like this are the worst.

The top 9: CSV had a tremendous post-4 nations bounce. Lowry line and 2nd line really hasn't been it the past half the year.
The only thing Arniel is flexible with is third pair d and 4th line, the least impactful positions. Two worst and least threatening top9 players are the 2nd line, gee I wonder why it's been struggling.
Also samberg

This may have to happen, it's not working as is that's why i say try Perfetti at center for some games and if no change in their success as a line ya you see what you can get in a trade.

Lineup rigidity and whatever politics are involved in that is still imo one of the biggest weaknesses of this organization. It removes a TON of access to information when we pre-decide our top 9, our top line must include Connor and Scheif, our second line must be a defensive shut down line forever in the mold of Copp - Lowry - Tanev, etc etc. Not saying some of these lines are not good, but there is a huge opportunity cost in refusal to experiment -- not only that you don't discover better versions of lines, but you don't find out what your players are capable of.

Also I bet if you listed our top ten historical lines, more than half of those would have been assembled due to injury, rather than anything proactive.

What are you expecting perfetti at center to really change? It's the same trio of players and skills. They need a better player. I really don't think either of those two can be your top 2 best players on a top6 line.

I remember looking at money pucks most used lines earlier this week. All 3 of the Jets top9 lines are on there. Injury to Ehldrs and Appleton are the only things that had them try something else. Other teams ranking similar to the Jets try other things more frequently.

Nearing the tdl, imo it'd be beneficial to see if there's chemistry mix that makes things click. Perhaps you don't have to spend that extra asset to augment the roster. The last 20 games for this team is pretty mid after a hot start.

Overall im not taking too much away from this game because LA has basically the most defensively sound team in the NHL right now as per their GA stats. They play a very suffocating game and the fact it was tied after 60 mins and the jets weren't trailing 4-1 is actually pretty impressive because they have some shooters as well. Although, once again, if we had played like we did in the 3rd from the get go I think we wouldve had plenty more opportunities

WRT the lines most used together...

I randomly set the jogger at 279 minutes, and this is what came up for goals.... note that all three of these lines will get a bump in GA just die to the Helle effect, but still...

Based on that... what are we realistically expecting from these lines?

Idk i disagree.
You'll be playing teams in or closer to LAs tier in the PO's. Evidently things can and will change a few months from now. But games like vs NSH for example I think are further from what to expect.

There are still a lot of teams in the mix for WC spots.

I think some dust is going to have to settle closer to the tdl before any moves are made. If the Jets aren't trading picks, so be it, but it's not like a package of Stanley and Perfetti is enticing enough to land a major upgrade, with term, either. I have no clue how Chevy is going to swing it, but I've made peace with letting the man pull the levers. Might be a tough one this year.

I agree with you @ps241 it's time for players already on this team to elevate. Namely the second line. It would solve some huge problems if they could start rolling. The Jets have the same issue they did last campaign. They don't view Vlad as the slc come crunch time, and they need an offensive upgrade over Perfetti.

I'm also in the call up Chibrikov camp. The kid was dynamite imo.

Yeah I think if the price is right I'm listening on both Perfetti and Ehlers. I think with a couple of good value returns and a farm promotion (Chibby) you could completely remake that second line.

If they can't score now they sure as hell won't come playoff time. I do get the argument that they hold their own defensively which is great but you don't want your second line to be a suppression line ESPECIALLY when you have the third line we do, and a fourth line that is plucky but doesn't reliably contribute offensively.

You'd put yourself in a scenario where you just try to prevent with every line except your top line, and if they aren't going how do you score enough to win?

I have suggested this and I really don't see the harm in it. I'd even suggest swapping him and Namestnikov for a few games.

Ehlers, Names and Perfetti does not work because nobody on that line goes to the net.Three small guys on one line is not going to cut it in a tough grinding game.Their numbers are not bad against other than the last game but a power forward is what that line needs.
The good news is the Jets are still the top scoring team right?
