Post-Game Talk: Kings 2 - Jets 1 in OT

That 2nd line stinks. No one's on the same page. Looked like crap all night. Is Ehlers trying to get himself traded?

I haven't been to a game in a while and that was not much fun. I also forgot how much I despise the organ/organist. TNSE should brick that room up again.

The view from 211…

Birdies : Samberg back…played well given the rust, Fetts was motivated out there today,…he’s due, Vilardi and Comrie had great games, JMo himself, Nino played hard, Helle’s ceremony was first class. Craft beer corner.

Pars: most of the team/game. Loooong shift by 81/55 in OT. Linesmen who just refuse to drop the *^{%% puck.

Mulligans: Ehlers was off script tonight (needs to keep it simple sometimes…tough to be fancy if nobody else knows WTF you’re doing), Smoke was fighting the puck all night, 64’s one timer set up to the wrong team. Still not sure what Gus brings.

Did I mention the craft beer?

That’s not how the rule is written, though. If both player entering and exiting the ice are still one the ice at the same time, neither one can play the puck.
Or even be involved in the play in any way (ie checking a member of the other team if they have the puck) - at least that's the Hockey Canada rule

Sometimes NHL rules are slightly different

59 points so far are pointing to another stellar regular season but is this team built for the playoffs and a long run I think most would say probably not the way they are currently constructed.
They definitely need to learn how to grind out wins

The problem is that the last thing that the top 2 lines are designed to do is grind

I felt like this was a predictable game.

I got the score right, the team wrong.

I called it early that the Jets were only going to get a single shot in the first time minutes, like the Vegas game here.

I called a 4 shot 1st period and 10 after 2. Which was overly optimistic.

I said that the Jets would score on the PP from an Ehlers embellishment and they did. Ehlers has to be careful because those moves will get noticed by refs and he may not get the call later when the Jets need one.

But it was very much a grind game. For the most part just detailed in defensive postures. Not a lot of rush chances.

I thought the Kings did better than the Jets to outnumber them on the puck and create no space with pressure.

The Jets didn't play bad they just didn't do enough to generate and sustain offense. Iafallo had a good game as Sawyer pointed out. Scheifele did not have a Four Nations impact.

Was nice to see Samberg back in and play well. Pionk looked a lot more comfortable beside him. I thought they moved the puck well.

I really didn't notice Josh out there a lot. He's definitely not 100%.

Stanley wasn't bad, Coghlan neither.

For me the biggest disappointment was the 2nd line making turnovers, mistakes in coverage, and struggling to sustain any possession. Something has to give here. Namestnikov wasn't the worst player on that line tonight. Was happy to see him come back from laying it all out.

The long shift in OT wasn't great either, luckily there's no 3 on 3 in the playoffs. Glad Pionk didn't get shot in the face laying out.

Nice ceremony for Helle, it's too bad the team couldn't get the 2 points for Comrie.

Way she goes boys

Tomorrow's game should be more entertaining.

2nd line was ass tonight.
Aside from a few good games in October and one in November the second line has been MIA since, one half assed turnover machine top sixer with two pretend top sixers who lack size, speed, grit and determination!

1 goal in the last 19 games Perfetan, why is the guy still in the top 6, why hasn’t Chevy recalled little Chibby? Second year of disappearing down the stretch, sure glad he held out for more $$$$$$, guy is a bust!

Need 2 points against the Av Nots!

We CAN score a lot of goals.
Initially it seemed likely every line could contribute.
Now it’s line 1 essentially.
Character players are great and all but we need more offense, especially from line 2
Regular season titans.
Boring game next!!!

Second line needs to get going, Perfetti needs to pick up his game and Ehlers has to look where his teamates are before passing. LA is a good defensive team so you gotta give them some credit for playing well. Would have been nice to get 2 points but at least we got a point. Hopefully we have lots of goals saved up now for tonight. :naughty:

If Pionk didnt Turtle there, he could have saved the game...

He totally left Comrie hanging there out to dry.

If that was me, I would have stuck out my neck and blocked the puck with my face,

It wasn't a bad play by Pionk, that was just a fantastic show of patience and shot timing/accuracy by kempe.

Poor back check from Scheifele. A little effort might have prevented that goal.
He was on the ice forever. His attempt to pinch off the King in the offensive zone instead of sagging back was the mistake.

Why did Connor shoot from so far out when they had possession. No way he was going to score from so far out. Kings took it back and scored. Cost his team the extra point.
With the rate of shooting for this team criticizing the one guy who actually shoots is not the play

Yeah i think that's why there was that weird delay when they scored.

Fleury was killing penalties, wasn't he?

I'm not getting a D man that isn't at least as good as Sammy and/or Pionk...why? We have enough 3rd pairing D men.

2C is a must if you ask me. Maybe bring Lambo up and give him another shot at it or trade Ehlers in a deal for one?
I see people advocating for Lambert to be called up and at this point I'm all for some fresh blood on the second line BUT the guy to call up is Chibrikov. He's got the speed, he's better defensively, and he's shown better offensive chops (tiny sample size) in the nhl. Plus he's gritty, and he's not afraid to hit and get dirty along the boards.

Imo he's what that second line is missing.

There's one way the NHL can clean up the line change ambiguity.

If a team has more than the prescribed amount of players in the ice at any time, the whistle is blown for early substitution and the faceoff is in the offending teams zone.

If a team has too many men and either of the players (coming off, going on) get involved in the play at all, it's a 2 minute minor.

That will stop teams cheating which happens all the time offensively and defensively.

But he's our bust...

:sarcasm:

Aren’t you trying to win a Stanley Cup?

Ehlers re-signs or he walks as a UFA. Trade is extremely unlikely.

This is not a jaded post after an OT loss. I am happy the boys got a point.

To your post,

IMO we are trying to make it to the playoffs, then anyway can happen (from the owners lips to gods ear). Making it to the dance seems to be the main goal.

A pretty large group of Jets fans would say trading Ehlers at the deadline won’t hurt our playoff chances since he has struggled to produce in the playoffs. In fairness since Buff left a half decade ago this group collapses in the playoffs and that’s while loading up at the deadline. Maybe this spring will be different but there is nothing Chevy can add at the deadline that will affect it. This group has to FINALLY figure out how to elevate themselves. That’s what we need to add for the playoff run not new warm bodies to join a sinking ship.

As far as my opinion on Nik’s future goes I have learned to not guess what Chevy is up to.

Any chance Ehlers is still recovering from his injury?

This whole situation with the suck homestead is all my fault. Right before this stretch, I made the comment that it looked like the Jets got their mojo back. What a stupid thing to say.

Now that that is out of the way, the Kings play the kind of hockey that can go deep in the post season. Damn they smother.
