Hanging with Brad Doty.
So my kid is named Drew. He's 7. Born right after cup #2. He's gonna get to his first game in April and I wanted to see if any of you have any advice on how early to get there to see the players warm up. We are gonna be Row 3 behind the bench. Really hoping to get a pick with Doughty but just want him to see the ice for the first time and have fun. He loves watching it from home.

Questions:
1. How early should I go to see the early skate if it starts at 7:30?
2. Any other tips to give him his best first experience? Any of you have kids that you did something fun for them?
3. Would really like to get a pick with Doughty so gonna make a poster. Hey named my kid after you. Would love to get a pic. Any other tips on making that happen?

Also, I'm going to get a pic with him seeing his first sheet of ice cause we all remember that moment of awe. I did this for baseball and it's one of the best pics ever.

Thanks in advance. :) GKG

I am probably one of the worst people to answer this, but you are one of my favorite people here, so I'll help in the one way I think I can :

Historically this has been easiest at TTC (formerly HealthSouth) the day before the gameBut I haven't been since before the Pandemic

Best of luck my friend

I hope Drew enjoys his first live game!

I live in Seattle and haven't been to a live Kings game in a long time so I can't really offer any advice.

Pretty sure warm up in approx 30 min before start of game. I would say move down to glass by 6:45 to get a prime spot.

Might want to think about bringing some noise cancelling headphones for your boy in case he's sensitive to loud music, etc. (my boy needed that).

Are you guys planning on eating down there too? Definitely check out TTC. When I was younger it was the easiest way to get some autographs from some of the guys. I got Bob Miller, Robitaille and believe it or not...Jason Allison. That dude was so weird to talk to. It was like he was totally disinterested. I remember this was about the time his knee was messed up and I asked him how he was doing.

I just went back to hockeydb to look up Jason Allison and couldn't help but notice how TERRIBLE this team drafted in those years. OMG - I didn't recognize a single name on that list until I got to Karalahti.

Yeah it's about 30 minutes before. so 45 minutes should do it. Maybe even an hour to make sure. then after the players leave the ice, i'd suggest walking around and going to get something to eat (McDs or something) just to keep the kid from being too bored sitting there waiting for the game to start. During the same and intermission, it'll be too many people to want to walk around.
Noise cancelling is a good idea just in case. Also it's cold obviously.

Good luck from another dad with a son named Drew...born after cup #1.

What did my wife expect asking about baby names while the Kings were playing??? She really didn't like Anze as a name. I guess that is what I get for marrying a Canadian.

Brownie wasn't an option?

Be at the glass around 6:45

Btw this might be an unpopular opinion but the best fan experience is in the nosebleeds. Whenever I’ve sat upclose the fans tend to not be as fun. Nosebleed fans are a lot more fun imo

Holy shit you
I suggested the entire roster including nicknames like any respectable fan. Brownie was ruled out because I don't like alliteration in names....no, Kudelski, isn't my real name.
Holy shit you're Michael Douglas!!!!

Michael Douglas posts here!!!

I second the noise/ear muffs thought. I brought my 3.5 year old daughter to the USA/Canada women's game at Crypto in December but we couldn't even make it through the tunnel into the inner stadium without her being overwhelmed by the volume of the music. We hung out in the concourse for about 20 minutes and tried to bring her in 1-2 more times but she wasn't having it and then we decided better to just go home.

True.. But much harder to heckle the refs and opposing players if you're into that thing (which I am).. Also sit in sections from middle toward the side where the King's shoot twice to avoid other team's fans. King's shoot twice where sections 115,116 etc vs 104,105

If you get there early enough (prior to the players taking the ice for warmups), you will likely find an usher kind enough to let you down into the 100's to get a good picture with your son and the sheet of ice in the background.

In regards to getting your son's picture with Doughty, it will be more difficult, but again if you can get near the Kings bench near the tunnel where they come out you might be able to get a picture with your son and Doughty as he comes out on the ice for warmups or leaves the ice after warmups.

I am really going to date myself here, but when I was a kid attending Roadrunner games in Phoenix the ushers would let us stand in the penalty box during warmups and ask for autographs. This has been ruined for kids due to safety measures and too many ahole adults who think they need a player's autograph more than a kid.

One last thing, and you may have already thought of this, ear protection for young kids might be a good idea during the game.

This isn't true. The best experience is in the PR seats, not sitting with the riff raff. :)

Totally agree. I think there is some excitement sitting in rows 5-10 in the corners being close to the action but the bigger seats, clean bathrooms with no lines and the food delivered to your seats are hard to pass up. Every game I've gone to this season I sat in the PR level and haven't spent more than $70 a ticket. Best seats ever are PR1 Row 1 Seats 1/2 (only seats in the row).

My first Kings game was in 1989 at a Kings/Oilers playoff game. My Dad took me to warmups and that night I fell in love with hockey. Ron Dugay attempted to throw me a puck over the glass but it flew over my head and some fat old man snagged it. But it was so cool seeing him point at me and throw the puck. It's definitely one of those moments you never forget so definitely take your kid there for warmups, OP!

I just took my twin boys to their first games this season, separately of course. They’re 5. We got there at 630, plenty of time to grab good parking, get food and get to the seats to watch warmups. My one son Otto got to see that high scoring shit show game against the Kraken and my other son Odin got to see us beat the Flames right before Christmas. They had positive experiences and they’re both asking about the Kings now and their sister who’s 4 wants her turn to go watch the Kings play with daddy. I’d say just get there early!
