Video KHL: Dinamo Riga vs Vityaz

I am pretty convinced that Vitayz is being paid by the NHL to scare away skilled players. I can see no other reason why someone would pay all that money to create a hockey team, just to watch their team lose terribly, and not make any attempt to get better.

Sadly that makes sense. NHL does anything to try to rid itself of the physical aspect of the sport without causing an uproar.:cry:

I'm not convinced the NHL has more than a minority stake in that team. The KHL Board of Governors (or whatever governing body the KHL has, if the purchase of a majority stake in a KHL team requires the approval from the league's governing body) would likely turn down any attempt by the NHL or one of its teams to purchase a majority stake in a KHL team.

Thus the other 51%+ is owned by a group that has nothing to do with the NHL. The majority owners of Vityaz, whoever they are, may also like that kind of goonery.

And the Vityaz coach appreciate how his players acts???

If Andrei Nazarov is their coach, then he probably threatens the players to do the fighting, or he'll beat them. Guy is 6'5 and racked up a ton of pims. First Russian goon I remember. He had a few good seasons here and there....

It could be under the table right? I know Zhamnov isn't the owner, but he may know some people from his NHL days. Maybe the NHL set Vitayz owners up with Zhamnov or something, who knows.

Quit talking crazyness. Vityaz was a goon team even before KHL existed.

Back in the days the Russian Superleague didn't pose as much of a threat to the NHL... they racked up 1741 PIMs in the RSL's final season, while always racking up more than 1,300 PIMs per season. No team in KHL history (other than Vityaz) managed to hit even 1,270 PIMs/season, the lowest PIM count they managed to get since the NHL lockout (although Traktor came within 100 PIMs to reach it in 2009-10)

End result: they didn't need the NHL's intervention to goon it up.
