Kevyn Adams GM thread

If we fire Adams -- which is a huge, gigantic "if" in my mind......I am 100% resigned to the idea that Karmanos will be our new GM.

And yet, maybe it’s Stockholm syndrome, but the guy has done really nice work with Rochester. If this was another organization and had different outcomes already, I wouldn’t mind. But given what this team has shown itself to be, I don’t even think I could get behind that move. There’s just too much ill will around everything to do with the team at this moment.

Heart is hoping for Jarmo
Head says one of the Assistant/Associates of Karmanos, Jakubowski, Forton

I would also not be surprised to see Karmanos move on at some point as well.

Between the Eichel trade (Nov 2021) and the Mittelstadt trade (March 2024), Adams made one acquisition of note, Jordan Greenway.

Thats two full offseasons of hand sitting.

Despite having a full compliment of cap space and draft picks....nothing was done for 2.5 seasons.

For a team whose crowning glory was finishing 1 pt outside of the playoffs (because they went on a tear much like this year, when it was essentially already over)

Adams swears up and down and left and right that he has the full support of ownership to spend whatever is necessary.

Yet, they didn't. In 2021-22 and 22-23, they added dead cap to get to the floor.

In 2023-24 they finished the year with 10M in unspent cap space. And this year, the 'no stone unturned' year, they will finish the year with around 8M in cap space.

Adams built a mentally (and physically) frail team. They received little support from the coaching staff, training staff, or front office. Even if they had picked up a few wins during that 13 game streak, this team would have collaposed when the pressure was on during the end of the regular season. The staple of the Adams team is them performing like rockstars when there is no actual pressure and crumbling when there is any amount of pressure.

The 13 game losing streak was the fatal blow, sure. But....this team was dead man walking going into this year. Their top players have all had great years, Dahlin, Thompson, Tuch, Zucker, Peterka. Quinn and Cozens struggled, sure. UPL hasn't been great. Byram and Power have been OK. Overall though, if your big players do well, typically, your team will succeed.

The fact that the big names have all done well and its taken a 6 game winning streak to get close to .500 as the season ends....this is just a poorly built team that cannot handle a shred of adversity or pressure. They can only play downhill.

Edit: I realized this post turned into more of a rant than an actual reply. My point was:

You don't fire him because the team lost 13 games. You fire him because a built a team that its not shocking or surprising they lost 13 games.
Jordan Greenway being considered an "acquisition of note" is so telling of Adams tenor as GM.

Id take hanging onto adams than promoting Peter Karmonos' kid.

If they made that change, that is what we get for 3-5 years. Stuck, still stuck with all/most of the failing grifters who are in place. Appert would still be coach in training. Karmanos is very inexperienced for the job and an unknown quantity.

If suffering through Adams for a little longer means getting closer to the inflection point of an actual, major organizational change/shift, I would sign up for it.

The Sabres and fans need for Pegula to have that major press conference, accept blame and failure, apologize to the fans, and announce the major player brought in to run the franchise and fix this mess. The longer that moment is delayed, the longer it will take for this franchise to become relevant (and no, the organization's goal of some day qualifying for the playoffs as a WC team someday is not being relevant)

This is all based on a false premise that Pegula would change course completely.

He won’t.

Lose for twenty straight…this is where he is after 14. Moving further away from your pipe dream.

I’ll take never seeing or hearing Adams again as the closest we’re going to get to a step in the right direction under this ownership.

Could he hire someone worse?

No.

Because no one else has been groomed for so long to be a puppet and no one else would do less

Kevin Adams final season appearance on wgr today:
:skeptic:

-Lindy will be back next season
-Need to improve defensively and toughness in off season
-Some mumbo jumbo Goals Expected stat excuse on the 13 game losing streak
-Norris injury not shoulder, would be ready for playoffs if they were in
-Power injury, getting 2nd opinion in NY Thursday to determine surgery or not, does not expect him to miss time starting next season
-Has not discussed extension with Tuch yet

He had the audacity to say he didn’t know what to do during the 13 game losing streak because he’s never been part of something like that before. Kev buddy. You were GM of this very team for an 18 game losing streak 5 years ago.

Regarding the mumbo jumbo expected goals excuse of the 13 game losing streak.

Adams quote: "we were + or even by a small amount in expected goals in 6 or 7 of those games, so it could have gone either way"

Our GM doesn't understand "score effects".

Of those 7 games, 5 of them were due to score effects.

I guess that confirms my assumption that Adams has no idea how to interpret analytics

I wonder why he extended 2 less important players already at the deadline and not even talked to Tuch about extension?

I've always said he's dumb. Plain stupid. Socially savvy to manipulate the owner and those around him but a dumb*ss when it comes to everything else.

Unless Adams does a crazy 180 on his philosophy, and revamps the top6 and top-4...I'm not even sure I'm going to tune in next year. Maybe I'll give them October, but if they trip out of the gate, then I'm done.

One of the saddest things to come from terrible ownership/management over the years is it's really slowed down the traffic on this board + destroyed any fun conversation.

On his chat on wgr yesterday the said they have to get better at defending and toughness.
Lets see if he can actually do it and that doesn't mean bringing Gilbert back.
I hope this also means that they move on from Wilford and look at Jay McKee.
