Kevyn Adams GM thread

  • HFBoards is doing server maintenance Thursday March 13th at 9 AM GMT 5 AM EDT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.

Based on Adams management, what makes you think he's cut out to be POHO when he seems to be flailing at accomplishing building any sort of contender.

This organization needs a Management/Scouting Staff overhaul. This team needs new blood and new eyes with experience overseeing this organization.
I think its a combo of:

1) He couldn't be any worse as a POHO
and
2) *IF* (and its a huge if) they can get a competent hockey knowledgeable GM in that can point the team in the right direction it will go a long way towards getting the team straightened out
and
3) ANYTHING TO GET ADAMS OUT OF THE WAY is probably a good thing(tm)

EDIT to add: Adams can manage the relationship with Pegula and, again hopefully, give the GM some leeway.

Adams could be a good POHO in so far as selling the GMs plan to Pegula and being a good buffer... but I wouldn't want him being in on any on ice decisions.

I don’t think it’s the scouts. They hit on enough picks to make the franchise work. Development and contract progression is a whole different topic.

I think if Adams can buffer Pegula but also keep a GM from going full Murray, that’s valuable.

I've floated the idea of Adams being essentially Terry's eyes and ears in the org while a GM does the heavy lifting....but I think the org is just so broken, on a whole, they need to get a whole fresh set of eyes to rebuild the front office from the ground up.

I can be convinced to keep some scouts, but not those at the top positions of the organization. I'm okay with those and adding more in the field.

I just think the organization needs just an overhaul, with none of the old guard and those influences.

I can't be convinced Adams should have ANY position in the Sabres organization or it's affiliates. He is the Ralph Krueger of Sabres GMs to me.

Adams would need to be gone. Human nature, he is not going to be able to help himself being a major influential figure in the organization.

It would also limit any potential GMs to Karmanos, Jakubowski, or Adam Mair. Nobody wants that bald freak looking over their shoulder and weighing in on decisions.

The organization needs a total cleansing/reset. Can't keep finding jobs for these people who arent very good at their jobs. Every single one of them is highly replaceable. Every one of them should be replaced.

The issue remains - this owner has repeatedly shown himself unable to hire quality people. His history for two different organizations is filled with poor character individuals and the pointedly untalented. It will take him being remarkably lucky to hire someone competent for hockey. Again, the way out of the reputation damage and outright stain of his ownership is to sell.

Let him hire that search firm like he did with Bills. Let them offer him an experienced POHO, it will be hard to go wrong here, since they are all known (although Terry of course can choose the worst option, I would not be surprised here), but they will have to offer him those where there will be no worst option. Is it so difficult, but it is just his ego that he is the smartest and he knows everything.

Yeah it's really depressing and sad.
Yah.. depressing and sad is a good way to describe it.

EDIT: Honestly surprised it was Lysowski that brought the fire. He usually seems so relatively meek and reserved but for him, that was en fuego.

I never knew KA resisted an experienced hand helping out….that alone should mean his time is up. But Lance saying Pegula wants to do it his way eliminates nearly all experienced candidate possibilities. 15 years incoming.

Spark notes?
Adams didn’t want experienced people around him though there were people who wanted to come in. Preferred a management structure where he was in full control.

He wanted Appert to be the coach if he had to fire Granato but Terry stepped in and said no…hire Lindy. Which Adams was fine with.

Terry’s vision is video scouting and analytics (Lance didn’t use the word…but I will point out that those are cheaper than having experienced scouting staffs). Lance flatly asks…what qualified GM is going to work under those conditions.

Terry trusts Adams…and doesn’t have the time or interest to find another GM he will feel listened to by.

Adams put a lot of inexperienced people in place everywhere.

Mostly the rest is rehashing things we know. Not doing anything to replace Quinn last year (which is when I knew we were dead). Not doing anything during the 13 game losing streak other than holding a disastrous press conference. They blow through player development but it’s getting a little better lately leaving guys in Rochester. The few vets they have are trying but the room is too young and has lost too often.

The only positive is that Lance thinks if season ticket renewals are terrible he may have no choice but to change everything. The locker room is mad. About the losing, about the lack of plan they understand…and specifically mentioned they were angry about his disaster presser. Dahlin never said he would ask out…but did have the meeting to try and understand how Adams plans to fix things.

Basically, shit is hitting the fan and no one there has any answers and it sure sounds like no good ones will be coming no matter what happens

Spark notes?
- seems to be a rift between players and management with the direction/decision making from Kevyn. 13 game losing-streak presser was a point of concern for players.

- Lance thinks the Cozens trade was more about creating a spark in the room than addressing problems within it

- Ruff was a Terry choice at coach, Seth was Kevyn’s choice, according to Lance

- Lance shot down the rumored ultimatum Dahlin gave Kevyn about needing to see changes, but confirmed they talked, based on his sources.

- Kevyn was offered experience in the structure of the organization, to which he turned it down according to Lance

- Lance reiterates that Terry wants to be heard, but also believes Terry has been too busy and doesn’t have the energy to address any management decisions.

- notes Karmanos is based in Pittsburgh and not in Buffalo or Rochester for operations

The real theme here is that they need more adults in every single room in the organization. But adults in management scare the children (Kevyn and Terry) and adults on the roster either won’t come…or, let’s face it, cost more than another child.

Can we just take a moment to recognize how insane it is that on a day we were, once again, blown out…to lose 7 of the last 8…and sit in 30th place in a 32 team league…the prevailing sentiment is that this GM will be back?

How are they going to fix things?

They aren’t.
